“Sexy, pulse-pounding adventure.”–Jaci Burton New York Times bestselling author on The Best Kind of Trouble The sharpest ache comes from wanting what you think you can’t have… Maybe Dolan has lived independent, free-spirited and unattached since leaving home at sixteen. Whiskey Sharp, Seattle’s sexy vintage-styled barbershop and whiskey bar, gave her a job–and a reason to put down roots. … put down roots. Cutting hair by day, losing herself drumming in a punk rock band by night, she’s got it good.
But a longtime crush that turns into a hot, edgy night with brooding and bearded Alexsei Petrov makes it a hell of a lot better.
Maybe’s blunt attitude and carnal smile hooked Alexsei from the start. Protecting people is part of his nature and Maybe is meant to be his…even if she doesn’t know it. Yet. He can’t help himself from wanting to protect and care for her.
But Maybe’s fiery independent spirit means pushing back when Alexsei goes too far. Still, he’s not afraid to do a little pushing of his own to get what he wants–her in his life, and his bed, for good. Maybe’s more intoxicating than all the liquor on his shelf…and he’s not afraid to ride the blade’s edge to bind her to him.

I LOVE an alpha hero who is all about taking care of his paramour, and Alexei fits the bill. He’s the perfect guy to escape for a few hours with, but he also feels like a guy who is really walking around in the world. Swoony, and earthy, and sexy.
I loved the barbershop setting, and not just because I live near Seattle. I loved the Russian male lead character—sexy and protective.
Terrific!
An awesome beginning to a fresh new series by Lauren Dane. I couldn’t put Maybe and Alexsei’s book down! If you haven’t read this you’re missing out! Plenty of heat, and a little bit of a tear jerker for me. I definitely recommend this read.
Low conflict between hero and heroine. Family stuff really hits the heroine hard, but the hero is an all-around good guy
I love Lauren Dane, and Unraveled is a great reminder of that. Full of heart and emotion, and a badass chick and bearded Russian, Whiskey Sharp Unraveled is guaranteed to make you laugh and give you all the feels. Maybe is spunky, and Alexsei is burly and together they are perfect.
Great author. Always delivers.
The character’s name was annoying. I had to reread many sentences to figure out if it was Maybe’s name, or did she mean maybe.
Anything by Lauren Dane is fabulous!
Maybe Dolan has been on her own after running away from home at age 16, when she realized her parents were always going to blame her from the unwanted actions of one of their male policeman friends, causing them to have to move from the rest of their friends. Then, after her older FBI agent sister Rachel was brutally attacked, Maybe “took over” her recovery, causing further friction with her parents, who refuse to believe that where Rachel is now, happy and working at a tattoo parlor, is where she wants to be and that she is not being pressured by Maybe.
Maybe has gotten a job at the vintage barber shop whiskey bar, Whiskey Sharp, cutting hair and drawing the undivided attention of its owner, Alexsei, nephew of the Russian family that lives next door to the sisters. She falls for him as well, but isn’t afraid to push back and assert her independence when he pushes too hard. He knows she’s hiding a lot but doesn’t pressure her too much, until a run-in with her father brings it all to a head — a very happy one!
I have loved Lauren Dane for a few years now and although I love all the genres she writes in, her contemporary books are my absolute favorite, namely her Ink & Chrome series. But in all honesty, they might have met their match in the Whiskey Sharp series. Good Lord did I love this book. It was just an amazing amazing portrayal of two people, Alexsei and Maybe and their love story. I loved their chemistry, banter, friendship and families and honestly could not get enough enough of their story.
What happens when Maybe Dolan, a bright, loud and free spirited woman decides that she and her silent, broody, alpha and commanding boss, Alexsei Petrov, need to finally hook up and cross the line after two years of friendship and dancing around each other? Pure fireworks folks!! I absolutely adored this friends to lovers romance. This author does a fantastic job portraying the organic transition of Alexei and Maybe as they both realize they want to take that step crossing the line into uncharted territory.
Gahhh!! All the feels and butterflies in this book were magnificent!! I loved Maybe’s strength and dedication to her sister. She supported those she loved and always placed their well being above her own. The author made this character feel so real and vivid that I wanted my very own Maybe as a best friend!! And Alexsei!!! How amazing is he?! Lord. He had style and a commanding personality but was such a mush inside. I absolutely loved him so much and the way he cherished and nurtured Maybe when she needed him. He really was the most amazing guy and this novel was so fantastic. I never wanted it to end. All in all this was a brilliant story and I can’t wait for Vic and Rachel’s book!!
I would like to thank Netgalley and Harlequin for an advanced copy of this book for an honest review. Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula
Lauren Dane brings readers another great romance full of captivating characters and thrilling suspense that held me hostage from the very beginning.
Maybe and Alexsei are strong, vibrant characters that grab attention and refuse to let go. The story has a steady even pace that keeps readers engaged with the characters as well building anticipation for that happily ever after. The romance is heated with the sizzling attraction that burns between Maybe and Alexsei but that attraction may not be enough as Maybe has some past issues that are holding her back, ones that not only ensnare the reader but tugs at the reader’s heartstrings.
Anticipation and suspense builds throughout the story as more of Maybe and her sister’s past are revealed and the past comes back causing grief and mayhem. The story is quite emotional which adds depth and a realistic feel to the story as well as the characters and is quite full of interesting characters that make reader’s want to get to know them all.
The story is a standalone story as Maybe (by the way I love her name and the explanation for how she got it) and Alexsei get together but the suspense part that involves more characters is still going strong. Lauren Dane has a gift for bringing her stories to vivid life with great characters and strong settings that invite readers to visit again and again, so is it any wonder that I can’t wait to find out what happens next.
When Maybe walking into Alexsei’s salon to ask for a job and he was ready to turn her down but she mentioned his aunt sending her and it was all over. Two years later Maybe and Alexsei are ready to see where their attraction goes but are they both ready for all of the baggage that each family brings with them? I loved Maybe’s character as she is always sticking up for her sister Rachel and now Alexsei and how no matter what she is always happy. Great story and I loved the Whiskey Sharp concept.
