LEE CHILD says she’s “a genius.”P.D. JAMES called her “the most remarkable” of today’s suspense writers. STIEG LARSSON loved her work so much, he named her in his novels. And now SARA PARETSKY returns with the most extraordinary novel of her legendary career: FALLOUT.Before there was Lisbeth Salander, before there was Stephanie Plum, there was V.I. WARSHAWSKI. To her parents, she’s Victoria … was Lisbeth Salander, before there was Stephanie Plum, there was V.I. WARSHAWSKI. To her parents, she’s Victoria Iphigenia. To her friends, she’s Vic. But to clients seeking her talents as a detective, she’s V.I. And her new case will lead her from her native Chicago… and into Kansas, on the trail of a vanished film student and a faded Hollywood star.
Accompanied by her dog, V.I. tracks her quarry through a university town, across fields where missile silos once flourished — and into a past riven by long-simmering racial tensions, a past that holds the key to the crimes of the present. But as the mysteries stack up, so does the body count. And in this, her toughest case, not even V.I. is safe.
Exciting and provocative, fiercely intelligent and witty, FALLOUT is reading at its most enjoyable and powerful.

her books are beginning to follow an increasingly boring formula.
Couldn’t finish this book, although I’ve always liked her previous books. Needed an editor!
Love Sara Paretsky! Can’t get enough of her books and this one didn’t miss. It was action packed and kept your interest throughout.
A good ‘Sunday afternoon’ read
I have read all of her books and enjoyed them. I found this one to be interesting but missed the connection with Chicago that is usually present in her stories. It was interesting that instead of having her work this alone, she had her dog with her in place of the usual group of people she relies on. It would be nice to have Peppy in other stories, but it would be best to have the stories in Chicago. She is known for using Chicago as a background, and she is good at it.
Continue the mysteries, use Peppy again and absolutely return to Chicago as the background for them.
Sara NEVER disappoints. This one took a few pages longer to get into but well worth the effort. Once it took off, it was very difficult to put down and very clever.
Good read.
I usually love V.I. books but this one was very disappointing. Very slow moving, too many extra characters, not a usual fun, witty, fast moving Paretsky story!
A great story with just enough real places to make it totally believable. Outstanding read!
A long time fan of this series. This is, by far, the best ever in my opinion. Lots of great characters, and plot twists…and questions. The tension is palpable.
Sara Paretsky is on my auto-buy list. I’ve loved everything she’s written.
It was a typical VI Warshawsky story. I hadn’t read one in a while and was looking for a quick read after finishing several more serious books. It satisfied that need but I could see the plot ending chapters before the denouement. Good for a light, fast read.
It’s Vic. What’s not to like!
This was a change for V.I. Warshawski in that it takes place in Kansas (with all the snark that comes to the mind of those familiar with V.I.). The novel is both a history lesson, a political thriller and a great read. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good yarn.
The reason Sara Paretsky takes so long between books is that she writes a better book than most of her colleagues. The Fallout continues the adventures of VI & her stitched together life in murder-ridden South Chicago. Don’t start this book unless you have your weekend open, you won’t be putting it down.
Interesting to see Vic out of her environment. Lots of twists and turns.. glad Peppy was along to help out.
