Sheila Kell has a talent, if you haven’t read her stories, I recommend you do.
Really a spicey love and action story. Will definitely stay in my library to read again. Ready to read another in this series. Like the author’s style.
Loved it! I loved the story line, the plot and the great love scenes! I usually don’t purchase the next in the series but I’m hooked! Already bought the second book!!!
Well written, intriguing, love story with a twist.
I was really drawn in and enjoyed the unique characters. A great read!
I like books that show what each character is feeling and it’s easy to understand where there coming from and actual talking to each other without all the background words that fill space
EXCELLENT BOOK. DEFINITE PAGE TURNER. EQUALLY DIVIDED IN WHAT I DESIRE IN A BOOK, MYSTERY, ROMANCE AND PASSION.
By far the best book I’ve read yet! A must read!
This was a great book with lots of twists and turns. I loved the constant bickering between Kate and Jesse. Then, before they knew it, their arguments changed to kisses. But not before a drive-by shooter shot Kate. Lucky for her, Jesse spotted the car and pulled her out of the way so that she wasn’t badly hurt. Was the shooter after Kate, Jesse or both of them? And why?
I loved this exciting book with its constant action. Both Kate and Jesse were not terribly likeable at first. Kate was a strong and determined woman. She was almost too determined, always wanting to do things on her own. Her stubborn, hard-headed manner was irritating. Jesse was extremely dominant. He was used to running his company and having his orders followed without question. But they both mellowed, turning into really great people.
The ending was wonderful. It’s not often that a book will bring tears to my eyes. This is romantic suspense at its best. A must read.
This is the beginning of a series that promises to keep us on our toes.
HIS is is a security company started by Jesse Hamilton . It employs some of his family members, as well as former military and FBI agents.
Jesse has suffered a great loss, and has hardened himself to ever loving again. He carries a guilt in his heart and soul. He dedicates his life to his job and his 5 yr old daughter. FBI agent, Kate Ross, is his brother’s AJ partner. There is an under current between Kate and Jesse, but it isn’t until she is injured while walking with Jesse, that they become close. That’s when the story not only heats up, but the suspense intensifies and the whodunit will keep you guessing.
A well developed plot with engaging characters. Though it’s a stand alone, loose ends are left which I am sure will make for interesting stories in the future.
I want to commend the narrator of this audiobook. Excellent delivery .
I was gifted this audiobook. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Good suspenseful read. Lots of hotness too. I really enjoyed this book. I can’t wait to start book 2 & find out what kind of trouble follows them next.
Sexy,Men
Good book, I will buy more in the series. Had a twist at the end, 2 actually that I never saw coming.
What do you get when you cross an independent FBI agent with a fiercely protective, ex-military- now-owner of a security company? A lot of ego with some fire-inducing heated moments to boot.
Kate, FBI agent, has just finished working with her partner’s brother Jesse on a case. She needs a break from this annoyingly arrogant, but scorchingly-handsome ex-military guy Jesse Hamilton. Unfortunately for her, a drive-by shooting at the two of them while having a chance meeting at her favorite coffee shop force them together–into each others’ lives and each other’s arms.
The good: Plot, slow burn, Kate
I loved that Kate is an independent, self-aware, FBI agent. There are some moments where I’m like “really?” but I notice it’s for the sake of the plot, and for the romance to build as a slow burn. In my opinion, throw the relationship insecurities from both of them out the window, because these two are already too perceptive to not see how the other is feeling. (they are detectives!) Also, it undermines Kate’s badass persona. I like the fact that the romance portions are a slow burn, because these are open-door beginning-to-end scenes. So the 3 sex scenes for the book were enough for me, especially since they were also supposed to be solving a mystery.
The plot was well-paced, if contrived at times, and a page-turner.
The not-so-good: writing, dysfunction, mystery
The writing here has some grammar errors: spelling, punctuation, sentence structure errors. This has alternating POVs, and sometimes they get mixed up, which keeps it from being a true page-turner. (It is, for the most part.) There were a few details that did not make sense–continuity– and for some reason, I could not get a sense of where they were. I think this is set in Baltimore, but I guess the writer did not want to play up that fact, because you don’t really get a clear feeling that’s where they are. But I wanted to get a clear feeling, because as a series, having a sense of place is a good foundation to work off.
The dysfunction of the main characters and the insecurity of how they felt about each other got on my nerves. In most scenes, Jesse is all-in with Kate, but why is Kate still unsure? Near the end Jesse’s feeling like a failure for how he’s protecting Kate doesn’t make sense even after he tells Kate everything about his wife’s murder and Kate reassures him everything is okay. Kate’s kid thing doesn’t make real sense to me. And the whole mystery with “The Facilitator” feels to me like a reader manipulation/misdirection which ends antithetically. It’s one thing to have a twist of plot, it’s another thing to have that twist render one of your characters as a non-entity. That’s just audience manipulation. I don’t like it.
Overall
This debut novel has some kinks it needs to work out, but if what you’re looking for is slow-burn sex with a decent mystery-thriller feel subplot, this series should be enjoyable for you.
This is the first time that I read anything by this author and I really enjoyed the book. The way that she wrote each character was amazing. Good read!!
Dull
Usually love this genre but couldn’t get into it. Heroine was so bull headed with no common sense. Bleh!
The author tries too hard to set the stage for a long running series, while it devoting enough editorial time to ensure proper grammar and to avoid run on sentences.
