Someone has created a fake social media identity and is online romancing the lonely women of Sinful in order to scam them out of money. Because he always seems to pick the perfect targets, Fortune, Ida Belle, and Gertie think he must be either a Sinful resident or someone with a close association to the town. Playing with emotions for pay is dirty pool, but the game turns deadly when one of the … the women is murdered. Fortune decides the victim must have figured out who the scam artist is and threatened him with exposure. Deputy Carter LeBlanc is hard at work to find the gunman, but sometimes it takes a woman to expose a lady-killer. Fortunately, Swamp Team 3 is on the job.

Fortune Hunter is the eighth book in Jana DeLeon’s Miss Fortune Mystery series. Someone has set up a fake ID and is scamming lonely older women in Sinful, Louisianna. When, Gail, a well-respected woman who does all sorts of charity work is murdered, Fortune, along with Gertie, and Ida Belle, are convinced the scammer is responsible for Gail’s murder and they set out to get him. A fair amount of laughs, but also some heartbreaking scenes as well. A most enjoyable read and I’m once again impressed with the series.
Hysterical! Love this Miss Fortune Series!
Yes to all of the things I liked about this book.
Fortune, Ide Belle and Gertie are in the thick of things again but with Carter finally in the know it creates some bumps and hurdles for Fortune. As she contemplates her future Swamp Team 3 once again solve the mystery and Carter? Read the book !
I love this series, I read them over and now listening through audiobook. I am not the type that laughs out loud but I find my self giggling at the crazy stunts. Keep the series going
This one had a great storyline. However, it paints a negative stereotype of disabled people. Perhaps unintentionally. However, disabled people struggle with this issue everyday. The characters have a respectful view of the disabled character.
Explaining the issues in depth in a review might be construed as giving away the plot. However, this one really bothered me, whereas I enjoyed all the other books I have read in the series so far.
Spoiler alert: The disabled person is actually the villain, and is not really disabled, only wearing the guise to steal. That is a serious and dangerous stereotype.
Getting the Catfish out of the Bag
Appropriate for teen – adult
Light reading
No sex
Little or no harsh language
Without becoming tiresomely silly, good for some giggles because of the ladies’ hijinks.
The book starts with background information about the characters, nicely done, for those who haven’t read the series.
Plot no spoilers:
As the book begins, Fortune who’s a CIA agent hiding undercover from a terrorist and his minions, is having to face, for the first time in her life, the complications and realities of really caring for the people she has met in her small town. In particular she must come to terms with her feelings for Sheriff Carter who now knows she is not a slightly air-headed beauty queen. He, in turn, is going through some of the same emotions. This part is not overdone. I think it makes both of characters more real.
Meanwhile, her friends Ida Belle and Gertie present her with the problem of someone who’s bilking naive local women by posing on Facebook as a potential admirer: same old story – reel ’em in, ask for money, get the cash, then disappear. Ah, but then there’s this murder. Why her? She’s happily married. She wouldn’t be the type to be “cat-fished,” would she?
Good story line. Enjoyable even though I guessed whodunit.
The entire Miss Fortune series is wonderful!
Love love this series!
I had the bad guy figured out before the reveal again. the very end was a surprise though.
The Miss Fortune books are LOL funny. Fun characters!
This is my favorite series EVER! All of them have become my “friends”
A great read. Fortune and the girls will keep you laughing and wanting more.
I love this whole series. I am one of the readers that can’t put the book down once I start it then I can’t wait for the next one. My family knows when I start a new one. They can hear me laughing through out the whole house.
I recommend this whole series! It’s original, funny and I didn’t want it to end! Fortune and her cohorts are not what I expected when I started the first book. The old ladies (and I’m one too) are a real treat and DeLeon does an excellent job of showing how surprising our pasts are when you get to know us. I hope she keeps the series going.
Love this whole series
Loved each page…Read in its entirety in one afternoon….Loved it
