After the world was ravaged by a viral apocalypse, Blackwater is one of the only colonies that remains. The survivors came together to create this safe haven. Nestled between a fierce river and a city’s flood wall, the well-being of its residents hangs on a long-established treaty with the night-walkers. Sounds simple enough, but lately, the people of Blackwater have been dying, and the humans … believe the night-walkers are to blame.
Porschia Grant starves for more than her parents’ affection. Forced to enter the rotation, she will be given extra food rations in exchange for becoming a vampire’s breakfast and dinner for a week. The rotation has an extra responsibility as well: leave the colony and enter the dangerous forest to hunt for food. A night-walker will protect the hunters from the infected that roam the woods. But with the treaty hanging in the balance and tension between the humans and vampires rising, anything could happen in the darkness.
What would you do if your only chance at survival might kill you?

When I took a break from reading this story, I couldn’t stop thinking of it. The way Casey Bond wove this story was exciting. Loved the characters and I loved the plot. Absolute page turner!
This is a really interesting story. It’s familiar yet not, unique and foreboding. I loved that it felt very somber but that I also got an adrenaline rush at every turn because it might be vital and life changing to the characters. The story wasn’t slowly paced but it felt unnerving. I felt the colony, the night walkers, the humans and their struggles. This story seems very realistic to me. I very much enjoyed it and am going to jump into book two soon.
I really enjoyed this dystopian, paranormal story. A virus devastated mankind, leaving decaying, ever hungry zombies behind. Lack of food and hunger drive both the uninfected humans and the vampires of Blackwater to form a treaty that allows the humans to hunt outside the safety of their home, guarded by the immune night walkers. Protection from the infected in exchange for a little human blood. This is the world Porschia Grant must survive in.
This is a fast paced, heart wrenching, exciting story of hunger, loss, desperation and the struggle to survive. Your heart aches for Porschia and many of the other characters throughout this story. The author keeps you off balance by never quite letting you know who the bad guy is and makes you flip as to who you like and who you don’t. Saul is a great character throughout and the narrator in the audiobook does a good job of making you feel his growing attraction and protectiveness of Porschia and the obsessive hunger of Roman. Her voice suited the story and made the characters easily distinguishable but the intermittent changes in volume in the narration was a bit irritating. I loved Mrs Dillinger and Ford, and the cruelty and instability of Proschia’s mother came through well. The timeline between the beginning of the infection and present day is a bit murky, as Mrs D explains that it has been more than 80 years and yet when Porschia and Tage scavenge in the city it still smelt of the fires that burned and the clothes were still intact. This is a minor detail and it doesn’t distract from the thrilling storyline and the breath holding ending of book one. I can not wait to listen to the next in the series.
I will start off by saying that this is NOT my normal read. I don’t do zombie or post apocalyptic settings. That being said I REALLY enjoyed this book. I couldn’t put it down! I have had this on my kindle for a while now, so happy I finally picked it up. On to the next one!
I read the whole series and next year I will read it again. my type of books
I liked this book. subject made you think about the brain and how it works. I would like to read the next book.
One of my favorite things about reading Casey’s work is how she pulls you into the world that she is writing about, and makes you feel as though you are apart of the story. Frenzy was certainly no exception to that. She also has this uncanny ability to take creativity to an entirely different level.
In Frenzy, a colony struggles to survive in a dystopian world plagued with Infected. To help ensure their safety, the survivors enlist the help of Vampires to protect them while going out and hunting. A treaty is set in place to keep all safe.
But something – or someone – is beginning to attack within the colony.
Our main character is mourning the loss of her sister, who failed to return from her time in the rotation. To make matters worse, Porschia also has to deal with her own mother, who takes being toxic to an entirely different place. She is given an ultimatum that leads to her signing up for the rotation.
Where she was once fearful of what lurked outside of the colony, she now realizes that danger is possible no matter where they are. Frenzy is filled with action and suspense, a budding romance and a nail-biting cliffhanger.
It was a nice story and I finished the series
A viral catastrophe leaves Blackwater Colony in peril. Humans must watch out for the Infected roaming around town waiting to sink their teeth to eat them. A Rotation is held weekly to get enough food ration to starving families.
Porschia Grant is heartbroken when her sister Mercedes doesn’t make it back from Rotation and is now considered an Infected. Mercedes was their mother’s favorite child, and she blames Porschia for her sister’s tragic ending. There’s so much that Porschia yearns from her mom – food, love and attention, but she’s not getting any of it despite all her sacrifices for her family. There’s two things she needs to do before her time runs out – get married or join the Rotation.
There’s a treaty between the survivors and the night – walkers to help keep the place safe and secure. All it takes is to let vampires feed from them every night in exchange of food rations. But when two murders are discovered in a river, humans are quick to blame night walkers.
I love love love this book and I want to smack myself for not reading it sooner. Frenzy got me all frantic and frenzied and fainting. Casey Bond is such a wicked story teller.
I love so many things about this book. Where do I begin? Well, there’s the brave and truly admirable Porschia, who has suffered so much and continues to struggle with her new life by the end of the book. There’s Saul, dependable and loving and selfless Saul. I love this man, he’s got a good head on her shoulders and a good gentle heart. I couldn’t imagine anyone else perfect for Porschia.
And there’s the night-walkers, Roman and Tage. Honestly, these blood sucking entities intrigued me. Their hot and cold attitude doesn’t only confused Porschia and me, but literally gets me on the edge, and I actually can’t force myself to hate them.
Then there’s kind-hearted Mrs. Maggie Dillinger and little brother Ford who’s making me believe that humanity is still not lost in a colony of infected and undead.
Casey Bond breaks the norm when it comes to love triangles and paranormals. To be specific, there is a triangle that happens to the main characters in the book, but you don’t feel that happening because the heroine knows what’s good for her. I love how feisty and headstrong Porschia is. Katniss Everdeen could learn a thing or two about this young survivor.
I can’t further articulate how awesome this book is. It’s so different from all other paranormal books I’ve read before. Frenzy is intense and heart-pounding and hair-raising. I’m not surprised when I learned that the author recently received numerous awards for the books she’d written. Casey L. Bond is the bomb! I can’t wait to read book 2, Frantic!
This book was fine. I liked it OK, but not enough to read the next in the series.
Excellent though a little too short!!! Awaiting the next book!!!!!
I really enjoyed this and look forward to reading the rest of the series
Easy to read, kept me curious as to how it would end.
Distopian with vamps!?!?! YES! This is a story that stays on your mind long after you finish. I am dying to know what happens next! There is a bit of a mystery around who or what is killing people in the colony. I tell you what my head was spinning with ideas as to who that may be. It will give you all the feels!! I really love Porschia so far.
Porschia joined the rotation cause well she didn’t much have a choice.. Yea she has one of those kinds of moms(whom I hate) that blames her for her sister. So she sucks it up and does her part. Only she catches the eye of a few guys, a few are night walkers… Shes already in a dangerous position in the rotation and add in a few vamps who take a liking to her and well thats a disaster waiting to happen. But when she has to make a choice it’s going to be deadly either way. which will she choose? to live forever or die from being infected?
The next book better hurry along Casey!! I really want to know what happens!
