A mindbending, relentlessly surprising thriller from the author of the bestselling Wayward Pines trilogy.“Are you happy with your life?” Those are the last words Jason Dessen hears before the masked abductor knocks him unconscious. Before he awakens to find himself strapped to a gurney, surrounded by strangers in hazmat suits. Before a man Jason’s never met smiles down at him and says, … Jason’s never met smiles down at him and says, “Welcome back, my friend.”
In this world he’s woken up to, Jason’s life is not the one he knows. His wife is not his wife. His son was never born. And Jason is not an ordinary college physics professor, but a celebrated genius who has achieved something remarkable. Something impossible.
Is it this world or the other that’s the dream? And even if the home he remembers is real, how can Jason possibly make it back to the family he loves? The answers lie in a journey more wondrous and horrifying than anything he could’ve imagined—one that will force him to confront the darkest parts of himself even as he battles a terrifying, seemingly unbeatable foe.
Dark Matter is a brilliantly plotted tale that is at once sweeping and intimate, mind-bendingly strange and profoundly human—a relentlessly surprising science-fiction thriller about choices, paths not taken, and how far we’ll go to claim the lives we dream of.

Two words…mind blowing!!!!!
Excellent!! He has become one of my new favorite authors
This book was very reminiscent of Michael Crichton. For those of you who miss Crichton as much as I do you’ll enjoy Dark Matter.
We make decisions everyday whether big or small, that effect the outcome of our lives in so many different ways. And, this book took the “what if’s” in life to another level.
Very original with lots of twists. I didn’t have any expectations going in, but it definitely took turns I wasn’t anticipating. One of those books that really makes you think.
Made my brain hurt, but loved the originality of the concept.
It’s been a long time since a book has grabbed me and pulled me in like this one did. Find out why I’m calling this one of my best reads of 2018: http://www.carlalaureano.com/2minbookreview-dark-matter-by-blake-crouch/
This book had me hooked right away. I couldn’t put it down!
This book held my interest all the way to the last page. There was no way to second guess any part of the plot.
Wonderful well written dystopian story about parallel universes. To say more would give The whole story away. I really enjoyed it.
Mind-blowing, engrossing, and utterly heart-wrenching.
I went into this with no expectations and immediately found myself immersed in the story. It is not very often that I can empathize so well with a character, yet on more than one occasion I found my stomach and body unsettled by the storyline and protagonist.
Highly recommended.
I was looking for a quick and exciting read as a break from my normally lengthy historical and literary fiction I normally read. I am also an aficionado of science fiction – my favorite authors – Octavia Butler, Margaret Atwood, Frank Herbert, and Issac Asimov to name a few. Being a bit of a literary snob, I did not have high hopes for this sci-fi/suspense/love story. Was I ever wrong! Crouch does a rousing job of exploring quantum physics and provides the reader with mind boggling questions about 4 dimensional space and a 5th – suggesting we are part of a multiverse where slightly different versions of ourselves exist at the same time but in multi-faceted worlds. Temporal disruptions can change these time lines, so the question becomes, are these versions of ourselves part of one individual or are we entities unto ourselves. Fascinating questions within a great story that had some exciting twists and turns. I thoroughly enjoyed this book . The four stars: I wish I was given a hint at the end of the ensuing future. I would not be surprised if Crouch came out with a sequel; there is certainly room to further the evolution of his characters.
Even though I don’t understand a lot of quantum physics, the author did an amazing job for the reader. I could not put this book down!
The author is very good at character development, and weaves a very complicated story that you want to read when you’re fully awake, involving multiple realities in the life of the main character. Sci-fi is the backbone of this story about a brilliant scientist and how different versions of him live and survive in parallel “multiverses”. You will find yourself cheering him on to solve a tremendous problem.
Different from the usual and interesting premise.
I loved this thriller! I listened to the audio book and spent a few hours in my driveway just listening!! The novel put me in mind of the movie, Inception. I loved visualizing the alternate worlds and the question we all must answer for ourselves: Am I living the life I truly want?!?
I love this book for the page turner it is and how it keeps you wanting more and more.
It does not disappointed!
