His Marine training taught him that failure is never an option regardless of circumstances. That certainly applies to Chad’s need to stop Lost and Found’s deranged client from using the information he gathered to stalk and abuse his ex. Falling in love with the broken woman and her sweet daughter in the middle of rescuing them is definitely not the best timing. But it’s also inevitable. In Book 3 … inevitable. In Book 3 of this heart-warming military romance series, Chad will discover that protecting Lora is a much easier task than proving he’s the one man she can finally trust with her heart.
Weeks of no incriminating evidence should have clued him in sooner about who was the real victim. Now Chad Lowell is wracked with guilt after the woman he’s assigned to investigate is attacked by her abusive ex-husband right under his nose. Lora and her little girl are in incredible danger, and he vows to protect them at all costs, whether the angry and hurt woman wants him to or not. His Marine training makes the protecting part easy, but nothing he does seems to make Lora want to take a chance on him or his love.
Lora O’Neil left a life of abuse to make a new start for herself and her daughter. When her ex hires Lost and Found Investigative Service to track her down, she’s left reeling both physically and emotionally. The private detective that had been watching her for the past couple of months did finally come to her rescue, but does that mean she should now trust him to help her turn their lives around? The sexy former Marine makes her body feel things she thought she’d never feel for a man again, but she just can’t imagine what it would take for her to heal enough to ever say yes.

I thought this book was very good as I listened to the narration. With previous books in the series, I felt like certain aspects of the story line ended abruptly, as well as some of the endings. I really felt like I received a full and complete story with this book. The things that were left unanswered, were things that I could see as another story, or a part of another person’s story. Answers were given and subplots were completed in this book.
This book began with a high level of intensity. There was a good deal of action in this book as well. I liked that Chad and Laura’s relationship developed slowly in the book. Laura was cautious not only with herself, but her daughter, Merci.
Both Laura and Chad were battling their own demons. I had great admiration for both of them, especially trying to forge a relationship with one another. I would flinch along with Laura when someone would come close to her. I could feel that flinch, that hesitation, the wariness. I could empathize with Chad and how he had to endure people’s reaction to him. The author was able to clearly help the audience understand what the characters were going through.
I think Chad and Laura also had great chemistry. Adding her daughter into the mix made this a winner. The tension Laura felt trying to protect her daughter and running from her ex-husband was palpable. The buildup of sexual tension was something I didn’t pick up in previous books. Chad’s love and concern for both Merci, and Laura was gentle as well as consistent. This was 4.5 stars for me.
After Zeke’s book, I wasn’t sure I was going to continue with the series, but Embattled Home brought me back into the fold. I love the narration, but I have also turned into an Eric G. Dove fan. I am looking forward not only to Duncan’s story, but also Harper’s, Aidan’s, and maybe Rachel’s if she has one.
I love these characters as each has his or her own problems to deal with after serving in the military. Chad was a great character and I enjoyed his story as he helped Lora who had an abusive ex. Loved the characters and the story. Mercy was also a delight as Lora’s daughter. Great story!
4 AWWW Chad!!! Stars. I’ve been looking forward to Chad’s story since the beginning of the LNF series. JM Madden did not disappoint and neither did Chad! Chad is one of the owners of LNF Investigative Services. He’s the lighthearted one of the three, at least on the surface. His feelings run deep and so do some of his scars.
He’s been on stake-out for several months now, watching Lora O’Neil. He’s known it’s a useless stake-out since Day Two. Lora definitely isn’t the woman her ex-husband has portrayed her to be. But he wants dirt on her and is determined to get it. Hey, it’s a job for LNF and it’s easy money. He gets to watch a beautiful woman and her adorable little girl. Only it breaks his heart how Lora never relaxes her guard as if she’s always watching over her shoulder for some hidden danger. Then, one night that danger strikes and Chad knows he has to act quickly before it’s too late.
This one is a raw and emotional story of mental and physical abuse. It’s not for the faint of heart.
The healing power of love and acceptance. Although the hero is not as emotionally broken as other characters in the series he is looking for love, companionship and acceptance.
If you love reading about former military personnel and them overcoming their demons this is one for you
