“Patrick Hemstreet’s debut, THE GOD WAVE, is a bombshell of a thriller full of everything I love: complicated characters, dynamic plotting, all set against a backdrop of a fantastic scientific premise. Here is a novel that demands to be read in one sitting, while leaving a lasting impact afterward. And with more of this world to come, I can’t wait to read what happens next.” —James Rollins, #1 … can’t wait to read what happens next.” —James Rollins, #1 New York Times bestseller of The Bone Labyrinth
“The God Wave is a mind-twisting ‘what if?’ story with some crazy cool science and true-to-life characters you can’t help but root for. It feels like those vivid dreams where everything is normal except you can do this one thing other people can’t. A fun and disturbingly believable foray into the paranormal. Don’t mess with the Zetas!” —Sylvain Neuvel, author of Sleeping Giants
A team of neuroscientists uncover amazing new capabilities in the brain that may steer human evolution toward miraculous and deadly frontiers in this spectacular debut work of speculative science fiction—Limitless meets James Rollins—that combines spirituality and science in an inventive, mind-blowing fashion.
For decades, scientists have speculated about the untapped potential of the human brain. Now, neuroscientist Chuck Brenton has made an astonishing breakthrough. He has discovered the key—the crucial combination of practice and conditioning—to access the incredible power dormant in ninety percent of our brains. Applying his methods to test subjects, he has stimulated abilities that elevate brain function to seemingly “godlike” levels.
These extraordinary abilities can transform the world, replacing fear and suffering with tranquility and stability. But in an age of increasing militarization, corporate exploitation, and explosive technological discovery, a group of influential power brokers are determined to control Brenton’s new superbeings for their own manipulative ends—and their motives may be far from peaceful.

Starts out a little slow, but then gets good!
Great story build-up and action.
It starts out very slow with way too much tech talk. If you can get through all that it is an interesting premise and the action gets going towards the end. This is the first of a trilogy and I will be reading the next one.
I loved this book ! I can’t wait to see what happens to these characters.
Loved the book. It’s based on real-life cutting edge tech that of course spins out of control. Couple it with top notch writing and memorable characters — who could ask for more?
Kept me on the edge of my seat
Strong Premise that Got Ridiculous
The book starts with a strong premise—since an EEG test can pull electrical signals from the brain and move needles on a measuring machine, could it be possible to build a custom sensor interface array into a scalp cap that could use those electrical impulses to operate electrical equipment? Instead of hooking the output of the brain to a graphing machine, hook it up to electro-servers that operate machines that do work. Just the potential applications for handicapped people is exciting.
Well, I’m hooked on the idea. The author has some skill in writing an interesting, engaging story, at least in the beginning. The characters have their quirky personalities and the author does a good job of bringing them to life. The first several chapters held my interest and had me happily turning pages.
A neuroscientist teams up with a theoretical mathematician and they devise a scalp cap that reads brain waves and can control crude electro-mechanical objects through a wired interface. Next they eliminate hard wiring of the interface to the devices being maneuvered so they are using Bluetooth. Next they are experimenting with wireless connections between the skull cap and the interface device. Pretty soon it’s completely wireless.
[slight spoilers]
I knew where the experiments were headed. Eventually there would be no skull cap, no interface unit, no connections whatsoever. The devices become more and more sophisticated and larger. And that is where the idea became ridiculous. It’s essentially telekinesis. Basically the book turned into a comic book, superhero type story, with the test subjects developing superpowers, performing fantastic feats of brainpower.
The book takes a strange dark, violent turn as it rockets to its (unlikely) conclusion.
Well, it didn’t really end, there are sequels, which I won’t be reading, BTW. The book had a promising beginning that became silly, predictable, and violent.
Sorry – – great premise and original idea that just didn’t get the writing support it deserved. Too predictable and basically boring as a result.
Entertaining, but too
Predictable action with stereotypical characters and events.
Believable story with action and interest building. Very fun read.
Such a real interesting Sci-Fi! Seems like this could be happening right now. Couldn’t stop reading it.
The idea of a “super” human is not new, but the neuroscience behind this book concept certainly helped. There are some leaps of faith in the conclusions of the protagonist, but solid either way.
Started slow and stayed there. Sorry couldn’t even finish it and I read everything to the bitter end
Great premise, tense, kept me reading to the end..
