With the death of a young black man, Walt and Ox are dragged into the eye of a storm as Kansas City erupts in violence and demonstrations.
Fearing for their lives, Captain Short sends them on assignment to Cabo San Lucas where they find themselves in the eye of a very different and even more dangerous storm — Hurricane Odile.
Surviving these ordeals pushes both men beyond the limits of … the limits of anything they have experienced, and leaves Walt facing one of the most important decisions of his life.

Robert Thornhill does it again and creates a powerful story that dips into a very touchy subject. While Walt and Ox have to deal with a very difficult situation we all begin to think more on this subject and see both sides. Another fantastic addition to this series.
This review is for the audio book.
This was quite a different story for Walt Williams and his gang. I did enjoy it but as it is such a serious subject I didn’t think it was as funny as previous books. I liked the in sight into living in a disaster zone and how people pull together to survive. The strong bond between friends is very strong in this book and is heart warming.
When Walt and his partner are involved in an officer shooting, tension in Kansas city is tested with racism the hot topic. To cool things down they are given leave and sent on a working holiday. To relax in luxury with there wives but keep an eye out for an employee selling drugs to tourists. Before the pair can even unpack there suitcase a hurricane hits the holiday resort and another fight for survival ensures. Back at home things are not calming down and when the bedraggled couples return home they spark another incident that could burn Kansa City down to the ground. Can everything be seen in black or white? Or is there a compromise that will please both sides that divide a city.
George Kuch does a good job with his narration and helps the book run smoothly.
This author continually amazes me with how he can write a story about a current event without offensive finger pointing. He has a gift for writing both sides of the story. This book wasn’t humorous but it was still good.
As a fan of Robert Thornhill I am very glad that he and his wife survived Hurricane Odile. The part of this story that describes what he and his wife actually went through was frightening. The photos of the destruction were awful.
I am concerned with the last sentence of the epilogue…Have we heard the last from Walt and the gang? I hope not.
Lady Justice in the Eye of the Storm is my eighteenth enjoyable read/listen from author Robert Thornhill. Another entertaining clean read, filled with puns & one-liners, as always dealing with current social topics. Each book in the series seems better than the last as Thornhill continues to up his game. Narrator George Kuch again adds greatly to the listening enjoyment with his wide variety of entertaining voices & inflections, Kuch IS Walt Williams! I’ll definitely be reading more from Thornhill! I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. Since I own both the Audible & Kindle versions I was able to follow along while being read to. Up next is Lady Justice on the Dark Side. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
race-riots, hurricane, law-enforcement, friendship, audiobook
First Ox is in the unenviable position of firing on a man endangering his partner’s life with a blade and setting off protests and importing outside agitators. Of course they are put on leave both for their safety and to free up officers who would have had to guard them, but to get them out of town they are sent to a Mexican resort to assist in investigation of a probable drug ring. Sounds good, but it turned into a nightmare when a hurricane descended upon the area and everyone had to go into survival mode–think high heat/humidity, no flushing toilets or running water, no electricity or phone, limited food supply, and iffy transportation home. They aren’t home very long and a friend asks for help protecting another’s business from expected robbery, which they do, but on the way home they come upon a robbery in progress and officer down. This time it’s Walt who has to fire to save the hostage and others. Riveting.
I use the audio, and George Kuch is perfect as narrator.
Audiobook review: Lady Justice and the Eye of the Storm really made me pause & think. The author did a good job with capturing recent racial events on both sides of the story and the sensationalism that some take advantage of for their own gain. The hurricane hardship of trapped tourists was well written and I feel really captured the author’s likely real life situation. The narrator did a good job as always. I received a free copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Oh my! A hurricane what! As always Robert Thornhill has caught my attention and kept me entertained. I find when I read one of Roberts books I learn more about what ever topic he has chosen for the story line. In this book I got a first hand look at what a hurricane can be like. Well done again Robert. Also George Kuch does the most amazing job of narrating this series. He is the true voice of Walt Williams. Not to give anything away but the ending of this book leaves the reader wondering where this story will go next in Walt’s life.
