A corpse with a secret
Deena Sharpe has been a teacher for over thirty years but that ended when she stood up to the principal. Now she wants to turn her experience as a journalism teacher into a job writing for the newspaper but her new career is put on hold when police find her missing uncle in a box among their closed case files. Instead of writing news stories, Deena is determined to solve his 50 years old murder and give her family closure.
This is a good cozy mystery. It has an interesting plot and entertaining characters. The author gives the story a genuine small town flavor with Deena’s interactions with the residents as she follows the clues. This is the first book in the series and I am looking forward to reading the next one.
Deena Sharpe takes on the case of a 50 year old murder in this cozy mystery. I loved all the twists and turns that kept me guessing… right up until the end!
Kelley Hazen did a fabulous job with the narration. Her ability to voice so many different characters is amazing. I look forward to listening to her next performance!
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.
This is a great book to read over the weekend. Or even in just one night by the fire! Loved reading this and will definitely continue reading more books in the series.
The main character, Deena Sharpe, is smart and determined. She won’t back down, even when the mystery twists and turns. And she’s a fully-formed character. Her actions are believable and they feel real. I always look for that in the books I read and this one did not disappoint.
I don’t want to include any spoilers here, so I’m going to stop my review before I accidentally blab something I shouldn’t! Suffice it to say, this is an entertaining mystery that will keep you hooked throughout.
This is a review for the newly released audio book but it still applies to the book.
I really enjoyed this story, with so many twist for the motive it keeps you on your toes and listening right up until the end. I love the one liners and playful banter between the main character and her husband, it had me laughing in a few places.

Triggering multiple conspiracies for the reason for his death. Deena and her brother start looking into the past in the hope that they can find the answers her grandmother needs to be able to rest in peace.
The narrator was easy to listen too and the time just flew by listening to the story.
