Loved all the “Cat Who” books, read them years ago, but still one of my favorite series, even wish I could find something I would like as much.
Thirteen was definitely bad luck for this book. It kind of feels like it was just thrown together in a hurry. The characters aren’t likable, most are barely discernible from one another, the mystery is flat out dull (and has a clunky resolution), and the whole situation seems slightly ridiculous. Add in the clumsy cliffhanger thrown in at the end and it turned out to be a complete dud for me.
And really? Qwill takes off for the mountains, completely ditching his lady friend, and she’s still answering the phone happy to hear from him?
Will I keep going with the series? Maybe, but not with as much enthusiasm as I had for the first ten books.
The Cat Who series is a favorite of mine.
My favorite series!!
Love the entire series. Recommend you read books in order for character developmenty.
I enjoy all the “Cat Who” books by Lilian Jackson Braum. they are very light reading, good for relaxing, and comfort reading.
I read each of Lilian’s books as I get a hold of them and this one, like the others, does not disappoint.
I love all “The cat who” books. They are different and take some getting use to the characters and the style. But, once you read one you will want to read them all.
As one owned by a Siamese cat or 15 over the years, these books are always good for the soul.
3.5 of 5 stars (rounded up) to The Cat Who Moved a Mountain, the 13th book in the “Cat Who” cozy mystery series, written in 1992 by Lilian Jackson Braun. Just when you thought things couldn’t get any kookier with this series, Qwill up and moves to the Potato Mountains. He needs some time away from everyone and everything in Pickax, to that he can decide his future. The 5 years he was required to live in Pickax in order to keep the K-Fund inheritance are up, and he’s to leave… but does he want to? That is the question… at least until he meets the Big Potato people and the Little Potato people, in reference to which side of the mountain the inhabitants live on. But when someone is murdered, it’s those bad lil taters that caused… but Qwill doesn’t think so, and he’s soon swept up in trying to solve the crime, forgetting about his own decision. What’s fun about this book is it sets the stage for Qwill’s decision to remain in Moose County, even after the inheritance is officially his to keep. But seriously… potato people? I had to look it up. No such thing in Michigan… but there is a Potato Mountain in California. Coincidence?
I love The Cat Who book series. I grew up in a small town in Michigan and always wonder where Moose County could be if it was a real town. Qwill is a very likeable character and the cats are really adorable. It is a light, enjoyable, and easy read. I learn something new in each book.
Just when you think you know who the killer is… they turn up dead. The entire series is very delightful. A must read. The first one in the series is The Cat Who Could Read Backwards. Fun cozy mysteries.
Enjoyed the twists and turns and the way the cats were included in the story
