The enchantment continues. . . .
The universe of the Lunar Chronicles holds stories – and secrets – that are wondrous, vicious, and romantic. How did Cinder first arrive in New Beijing? How did the brooding soldier Wolf transform from young man to killer? When did Princess Winter and the palace guard Jacin realize their destinies?
With six stories – two of which have never before been published … been published – and an exclusive never-before-seen excerpt from Marissa Meyer’s upcoming novel, Heartless, about the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland, Stars Above is essential for fans of the bestselling and beloved Lunar Chronicles.

Second time through! This is a collection of short stories to fill in the backstory of each of the main characters. They were all good, though this time through I just re-listened to the last two short stories: “The Mechanic,” a retelling of Cinder and Kai’s first meeting from Kai’s perspective (which was sooo sweet!), and “Stars Above,” the epilogue short story that wraps up what happens to each of them after the end of “Winter.” I have to say, while most stories just end right after the resolution of the main conflict, when you invest so much into a set of characters, you really want that epilogue, even if it doesn’t contain any conflict. This one didn’t, exactly–there was a bit of minor conflict, since it was Scarlet and Wolf’s wedding and due to their fame, it attracted the paparazzi. The conflict was how to give them the wedding of their dreams, even if it required a bit of improvisation. But I was grinning the entire time… SUCH a satisfying ending. I had been a little disappointed that (spoiler alert!) when Kai sort of semi-proposed to Cinder at the end of “Winter,” she put him off like she wasn’t ready yet. Even though she was 16 and clearly that’s a little young for marriage, so it was appropriate for her to do so… I am SO glad that we got that moment at the end of “Stars Above”! This was the true fairy tale, happily-ever-after that the entire series has led us to crave. And the peasants rejoice!
I enjoyed this but not as much as Scarlet and Cress. What was your favorite book in the Lunar Chronicles series?
This book of short stories from the Lunar Chronicles universe is best left for after reading the main series (to avoid spoilers). I liked them all except “Carswell Guide to Being Lucky” (I’m not a big Carswell fan though). A great way to fill in some gaps on a great Sci fi series.

I enjoyed hanging out with these amazing characters in these nine stories. I binge read this series within a week.
Recommend to those who enjoy young adult SCI-FI.
I borrowed a copy from my local library. All views expressed are my honest opinion.
This is a collection of short stories. Some of them are set before Cinder, some of them during in the middle of one of the books and one short story set after Winter and Wires and Nerves (A Lunar Chronicles graphic novel duology which follows our main character Iko).
I really enjoyed most of them, some of them were kinda boring/dragging but that did not stop me from reading them all. My favorite short story is Winter’s short story and the one after Winter and I will be discussing those two mostly. I will also mention the others but not as much
In Winter’s short story, we get to know more about the reason on why she decided to stop using her gift and I just adored her as a character even more. The dynamic between her and Jacin was just so adorable and it filled my Winter x Jacin heart!!!!!’
There was also a short story focusing on Wolf and it was very heartbreaking. That’s all you need to know. We also have a short story on Cinder’s and Cress’s past and it was also heartbreaking. There is also a Kai perspective which takes place in Cinder and it was nice seeing things through his eyes in this particular scene.
But the most funny of them all is none other than Thorne’s short story. He made me laugh and that’s all you need to know. There was also a short story, which you don’t have to read but I recommend you do because it was good, and it is a futuristic retelling of The Little Mermaid. Scarlet’s grandmother’s short story was amazing and we get to see her involvement throughout this story and the series in general which was nice.
Now we come to the best short story of the series, because it involves a wedding!!!!! Yes people one of our couples is getting married and it was the most heartwarming wedding that I’ve ever read!!!!! There was comedy of course which makes the wedding even better!!! I won’t spoil you who gets married. I will let you guess and then as you read it, you either got it right or wrong.
All in all, I really enjoyed these collection of short stories and I suggest reading them after you finished with the series in my opinion so you do not get spoiled while reading the series!!!!!! 4 stars in total is what I’m gonna
give to this book. Highly recommend!!!!!
After reading Winter, the official end to the Lunar Chronicles, I was so pleased to see that Stars Above was there just waiting to be consumed. The worst part about ending a beloved book series is that it’s over, but with this collection of short stories, true fans get a chance to indulge once more. Stars Above made me very happy to say good-bye, even though I know the story isn’t completely over (there’s still Wires and Nerves).
It was nice to read all the shorts I’d previously missed and have a chance to read a few new tales in the world of the Lunar Chronicles. I love the way Meyers does her retellings, giving them a life of their own while using them to bring awareness to social issues that matter to her.
The Little Android was a sad and endearing tale that pays homage to the original story by not undoing the beautifully tragic ending.
Glitches seems more a tale of twisted fate than altered plans. Perhaps glitches and accidents are simply mistakes, or perhaps they are fate working itself out.
The Queen’s Army is a story that breaks my heart, but only because I’m so fond of the Wolf character. Still, it’s part of his story, so of course, I loved it.
Carswell’s Guide to Being Lucky is so Thorne. The saying, “no good deed goes unpunished” might explain a few things about his past, but this story shows his true character.
The Keeper was my favorite of the collection. I loved having a chance to meet and connect with a character who never had a chance to shine in the series because it wasn’t in her calling or purpose to do so. Without the keeper, the story wouldn’t have played out the way it did.
After Sunshine Passes By is another heartbreaking story. It’s a hope-crusher of a story that I was only able to bear because I know how the series ends.
The Princess and the Guard offers another look at the insanity and cruelty of Levana while showing why Winter is truly the fairest in the series. It was beautifully sad.
The Mechanic offers a wonderful alternate point of view to the meeting of Cinder and Kai. It was really sweet.
Something Old, Something New was the perfect wrap-up to this epic series
Absolutely loved this book. The short stories were fun and exciting, especially since I already adored all the characters already. Wonderfully written and highly entertaining, Marissa does a wonderful job of putting this novella together for her already adoring Lunar Chronicles fans.
Some of the stories included in this bundle were ones I’d already read, but for the stories that were new, I was SO excited to read them. I particularly loved the stories that took place AFTER the events of Winter. There’s so much more story possible and I’m glad the author took the time to give that to us. For a collection of short stories, I felt it read fairly smoothly. If you enjoyed The Lunar Chronicles, you’re going to want to pick this one up!
Marissa Meyer is amazing, her Cybob fairy tales are a perfect new age take on traditional damsel in distress story. Especially since all these “damsels” can take care of themselves just fine. I absolutely LOVED it!
Loved reading the short stories of all the characters. It was great
