Available digitally for the first time ever, Heartbreaker is a classic novel of romantic suspense from New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Linda Howard
Michelle Cabot reluctantly returns home to central Florida, having inherited her father’s cattle ranch—and the mountain of bills that go with it. But Michelle’s determined to turn things around, even as she discovers she’s heavily … around, even as she discovers she’s heavily indebted to neighboring rancher John Rafferty, a man she’s spent ten years trying to forget.
John has his own ideas for how the spoiled princess he remembers might pay him back—but when Michelle’s secrets come to light, he’ll do anything to protect her…including letting go of the past once and for all.

Wonderful book! Once I started reading… I just couldn’t put the book down.
I think I really liked that the hero had a misconception about the heroine. He thought she was a spoiled brat who seduced men for fun. He was still drawn to her despite not having a good opinion of her. When he finally gave himself permission to pursue her, he was almost obsessed. He despised her spoiled persona and yet he wanted to be the one to spoil her. It made it way more enjoyable when he slowly learned she was actually a good person and someone he admired. I will be reading this one again.
This started out like the typical longterm enemies to lovers romance, with a typical LH uber alpha hero and a surprisingly strong heroine who makes choices about the hero knowing the potential consequences of getting involved with a big-time player. Their “enemy” status and his shallow slut shaming lasts for all about five minutes.
Lots of chemistry and when I sat chemistry, lots of life-changing sex.
If you like the dynamic chemistry LH creates with her characters, this is for you.
However, I wanted to pull my hair out over the heroine’s responses to the evil-doer in her life. [ Sitting weaponless and waiting on the steps of your abandoned house for your homicidal and abusive husband to show up with his gun and willingness to kill you is a sign of idiocy. She hopes the H gets her message in time. Ugh. Could you at least throw the hot coffee in his face. Something! (hide spoiler)]
Checking the pub date, 1987. Okay, LH and the heroine get a pass as apparently proactive, kickass heroines came later in Romance World.
I love Linda Howard’s but this one isn’t her best. The heroine is ridiculous and needs to grow up. The hero is so alpha he can’t see right in front of his face.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was just a little disappointed that the book was not updated to reflect the times though. I loved the dual POVs that this book is written in. It was a little sad that the characters couldn’t communicate better but then the story would not be the same. John Rafferty was really domineering of Michelle. He would be considered an alpha but it was slightly carried away at times. I am not sorry to have read this because again, I did enjoy it.
The suspense action of the book was well written and added to the intense feeling here. If you enjoy alpha males, you would probably enjoy this.
Love Linda Howard. This is an easy romantic read. My favorites of hers are her witty snarky romantic suspense novels.
This is one of Mrs. Howard’s earlier books. It is dated in how women are view but still a good read.
Good read. Somewhat predictable but fun.
Delightful adventure with interesting characters. Loving and touching story.
It’s a quick, easy read for those who love romantic, happily ever after stories, with a little bit of drama and intrigue.
Easy reading and entertaining
Needed a HEA book and this one was it. A good looking cowboy is always a plus
This was a fun easy read. Good story for an afternoon on the couch.
