I loved Terrent! Up until this book, he’s been the bad@$$ wolf-shifter whose a member of the Bane Council that hunts down and takes care of werewolves. We knew Terrent was sexy and that he was interested in Maggie, but in Twisted, we learn the two have a past. Terrent is determined to make Maggie realize how important she is to him and that he wants a future with her.
Maggie was okay. Sometimes the female characters come across as trying too hard to act all tough, and I’ve discovered that I don’t much care for this type of character. I did like her better by the end, but she’s not one of my top favorites in the series.
Twisted is a novella (book #5.5 in the Dark Protectors series) told from both Terrent’s and Maggie’s POVs. Jase has some scenes and I’m excited to finally start on his book next.
Rebecca Zanetti definitely knows a thing about creating anticipation! I have been excited for Maggie and Terrent’s story since I first saw them face off in Consumed. I love that Maggie is this klutzy, amnesiac wolf who still manages to get the upper hand over a big bad enforcer like Terrent. I just can’t believe he has waited so long the pick things back up.
It’s been five years since these two have seen each other. And we find out right away, there is more to their attraction than we ever realized. Terrence KNEW Maggie before she lost her memory. Even better (or worse, depending on how you look at it) –they were in love. Now, he is ready to put their relationship back on the front burner. This, as she tries to infiltrate his pack, to sniff out who is behind some inoculations that were tampered with.
I thought it was cool that there was more depth to their connection, but I had some trouble with the idea of Terrent staying away from his great love for 10 years. Yeah, his job is important and all, but that bothered me. Setting that aside, I did enjoy the sexual tension and the hot sex between these two. I could do without the spanking/ dominating scene, but the other encounters were great. There is also some pretty good banter. Maggie is sassy and smart. I like that she gives as good as she gets with Terrent. I also like that she isn’t powerless in their relationship, even though Terrent is so strong and alpha.
Over the course of the story, we learn about Maggie’s history –and Terrent’s too– which is kind of interesting. (I wonder if that is going to be incorporated more into the series.) And we get a few Jase and Dage cameos, which I was happy about. The ending takes a bit of an obvious route, but in the end, I was pretty satisfied with how it all turned out. At first, I was disappointed this love story would not have a full length book, but I think it was served well as a novella.
Rating: B
I loved it! The novella was fast-paced and action-packed! I just wish it was longer!
4.5 stars
Rebecca Zanetti really does a stellar job in her 0.5 books. For most authors, these 0.5 books are shorter stories to give us some more info on characters that are a bit more peripheral, or to fill in some background info that will be needed in future books. I’ve had my ups and downs with other authors with these shorter books. So far, this author is really impressing me with her short stories.
Of course, being a little over 100 pages, this story moves fast. I would also strongly suggest it not be read as a standalone. That’s not what it’s meant for and not how it should be read.
Maggie has been a mystery since we met her. There’s a scene in Consumed between Maggie and Terrent that full-on intrigued me. So, I’m really glad to get to read their story. There is so, so, so much more to both characters than I had imagined.
Because this story is so short, I cannot say much of anything without spoilers. This story is full of chemistry and fun and tough choices. I loved it!

I don’t normally rate novellas with five stars but this one was simply outstanding!
Maggie is sent on a mission by Dage, the Vampire King, to investigate who is sabotaging the wolves inoculations for the virus. When she arrives, Terrent discloses some a secret she wasn’t aware of. However, having been kidnapped by Kurjans years earlier, she now not only has to contend with a dominant Alpha male but also the bounty on her heads by the demons and another surprise group.
A wonderful story and great ending for both Terrent and Maggie Keen to dive into more of these stories
Twisted was a good addition to the Dark Protectors world. This is Maggie and Terrent’s story. After all Maggie went through I’m glad she got her HEA. I really liked the story, and there were some twists and turns I didn’t see coming.
Maggie has not forgotten the moment the met wolf-shifter Terrent Vilks, she can’t seem to forget his voice, feel of his lips, or the look of pure lust in his eyes. Maggie has been staying with vampires since she was rescued ten years ago, but she knows it is time for the shifter side of her to with other wolfs.
Terrent is holding a secret concerning Maggie, she doesn’t remember anything farther back the ten years she has been away. When he reveals who he really is to Maggie, she is not quite sure of the new turn of events but Terrent has been patient for ten long years and is willing to do anything to win her heart again.
Great read.
Maggie finally agreed to spend time with the wolf clans. She quickly realizes that Terrent Vilks has not told the truth about who she is. While working out their issues that are also helping the local pack deal with the transition to a new alpha. But things don’t go as planned.
I liked this one. It was a quick and easy read. Maggie has been a fascinating side character because of the mystery of who she is and what was done to her. I am glad her and Terrent finally got together. Maggie helps Terrent heal from his past and gives him a new life.
I can’t wait to see him and Maggie in future books.
While I have been enjoying the Dark Protectors series, this was not my fave book. I found the whole Maggie / Terrent story kind of boring.
Yay Maggie and Terrent…..This novella was freaking great, but should have totally been a full novel! So someone is messing with the Virus-27 vaccinations. The King sends in Maggie to investigate who is sabotaging the inoculations. Maggie is a wolf shifter who was kidnapped by the Kurjans and experimented and injected with virus 27 and experimental drugs making her lose her memory of her past life. Terrent is the leader of the Bane Council. He and Maggie in past books have had some smoking hot chemistry. We find in this book that Maggie was mated to Terrent before she was kidnapped and that poor Terrent has been waiting 10 long years for her to remember him and their life. Terrent is one sexy dominant total alpha wolf. Maggie is sweet and cute, but brave. Reading about them falling in love again was so sweet. I so glad Maggie gets her HEA. This book is so a must read.
As always this book did not disappoint. Love, action and steamy romance.
