BREAKING NEWS: The Bad Boy of Baseball, Maddox Paige, is totally and utterly whipped. Okay, that might not be the headlines in the newspaper this morning, but it’s the reality of my current situation. It all started a month ago when I received a call from my best friend, Kinsley. She got a new job in Chicago and needed a place to stay. I’ve known the girl since I was five, what harm would it be … harm would it be to have her stay at my place for a while?
Ha! Total disaster.
Now instead of going out every night with my teammates, I’m couch surfing and sketching endless photos of my best friend . . . but that’s the least of my concerns.
The disaster, you ask? I’m rapidly falling head over cleats in love with my best friend, my roommate, and my number one fan.
And she has no idea . . .

This has to be one of my new fave Meghan Quinn books. Within this baseball series, its right up there next to Milly and Carson as my favourite. I’m a sucker for friends to lovers books, so there was no way I wasn’t going to enjoy this.
Maddox and Kinsley are so different from each other, but they’ve been there for each other their whole lives and have such a strong bond and knowledge of each other, that as a reader it really makes sense for them to develop feelings for each other.
They’re great together even with all their differences. And the fact that they know each other so well really lends a hand to things. I just loved these two, even though there are some things they inevitable need to work through.
I don’t want to spoil anything, so I’ll just tell you to go out and grab this book. You won’t regret it! Easily one of my favourites for 2020.
Seriously, I would LOVE to know how Meghan Quinn can create male after male of just amazing specimen! Maddox is seriously a gift! Where ever she gets her inspiration from, I hope she never runs out! Her males are some of my favorite characters EVER! Maddox is the perfect example of why women love (read obsess) over bad boys, he’s completely charming, he’s hilarious, he has this sweetness that is completely endearing. He also has this cockiness, this is a Meghan Quinn book after all, but his cockiness comes off charming and I. Can’t. Get. Enough. of him! She has this gift, this ability to get me totally smitten with her characters just pages in and The Change Up was no different. I could reread that first chapter a dozen times and laugh so hard I cry every single time.
I was going to say that Kinsley was just created for Maddox but DUH! I mean, yeah, ha ha! See this is what Meghan Quinn does to me. She makes me forget that this is a story and I think I’m reading about real people and real lives. So yeah, Kinsley was just the perfect ying to Maddox’s yang. The banter and chemistry between these two was just irresistible! So while so much of this story had me smiling and super happy, we do get to a point where Meghan Quinn flips her switch and the emotion and the complexity that is life comes in to play. This all just makes her books more charming and real feeling! I can’t recommend Meghan Quinn more than I already do… read her! Like all of her books but especially this adorably, hilarious series! She writes a mead sports romance!
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I would leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that… my opinions.
Friends to Lovers is one of my top 5 jams. I was crazy stoked that Maddox was getting his own story, I really liked him in the last book. I liked learning the different sides of him. There’s a lot of good, bad and ugly sides. Kinsley is the complete opposite of him, that they actually balance each other out. Girl is like a bulldozer sometimes but it comes from love and caring about him. Heart of gold that girl. There are super sweet parts with animals and extremely funny parts with my main man, Jason. I love that character so much. He’s like one of my all time faves from this author. I am really enjoying all of the characters in this baseball series. This one had some really juicy scenes, they were smoking hot together!
I loved Maddox and Kinsley! They’ve been best friends since kids, with Kinsley being his safe light when things grew tense at home. Kinsley was his caring, supportive, best friend who continued to encourage him to be the best baseball player. Because of his baseball schedule and the fact that she still lives in their little hometown, their friendship remains strong through monthly phone calls. When the opportunity arises where Maddox can finally return the favor, he invites Kinsley to stay with him in Chicago when she’s offered her dream job there. The bad boy of baseball keeps most people at arms’ length away but Kinsley and a few of his teammates, like Jason and Cory are the exceptions. When demons from his past rear their heads, they threaten the stability he’s grown accustomed to and his fight to overcome is a gut-wrenching. struggle. This struggle is what endeared my heart to Maddox making him the front runner in Quinn’s baseball series!
4.5*
I loved this. Meghan Quinn has a way of writing rom-com’s that make me love the characters and the side characters.
This is part of her baseball series, but can be read as a standalone which is what I did.
Maddox has been dubbed the bad boy of baseball and he’s invited his childhood best friend Kinsley to live with him while she starts her new job. The relationship is so cute between them. They just knew each other so well and even though Kinsley is vegan and Maddox isn’t, he doesn’t make fun of her and they get each others quirks. There is a bit of angst in here to keep you on your toes, but I didn’t want this book to end.
I’ll now be reading the other books in this series like ASAP.
I received an advance copy of this on behalf of the author and volunteered to leave an unbiased review.
The Change Up has everything you would expect from a Meghan Quinn book! It has great characters that you will fall in love with and a storyline filled with heartwarming moments that will keep a smile on your face from beginning to the end.
I love a good friends to lovers romance story and this book is now one of my favorites! Maddox and Kinsley have that special bond of friendship but neither of them wants to put that friendship in jeopardy, so even though they both are mutually attracted to each other, taking that next step is a huge risk.
I loved reading every word and enjoyed every moment of Maddox and Kinsley’s story as they each took the leap into a relationship that took them from best friends to forever lovers.
Unputdownable! This was a top 2020 read for me. Meghan Quinn knocks it out of the ballpark with this angsty, emotional, sexy, funny, and sweet romance. My heart took quite the beating with this book but it was worth every second! This is a complete standalone with wonderful interconnecting characters. I didn’t read the other books but I definitely plan to now that I’ve read The Change Up.
Maddox Paige is the ultimate swoony hero. He is a pitcher for the Rebels and has a reputation as the bad boy of baseball, known to throw a few punches on the field. He was broody, sweet, sexy, has a reverse Prince Albert (hello! hot!), tattoos, with a genuine heart and a huge soft spot for his best friend, his safe place, Kinsley aka Kinny. They have known each other since they were 5 years old. He is a bit closed off emotionally. The only person who knows the real Maddox Paige. So when Kinsley mentions that she may have a job offer where he lives but needs a place to say, Maddox impulsively invites Kinny to stay with him. He regrets it the minute it’s out of his mouth but he could never deny Kinny anything. How bad could it be, right? This would be his chance to repay the kindness that Kinny has shown him. After all, how bad can it be? When the lines between friendship and romance blur, can Maddie take the leap and pursue a relationship with Kinnie, or will he keep her in the friend zone for fear of ruining their lifelong friendship? Is it worth the chance?
Kinsley is a free spirit, an open book. She is a vegan who loves animals, the earth, and most of all her friend, Maddox aka Maddie. She is quirky, caring, honest, sweet, and not afraid to speak her mind. She has a soft spot for her best friend but doesn’t take crap off of him either. She saw what his father put him through and has been there for him through the bad and the good, the thick and the thin. She was his savior and shoulder to lean on. No one knows him better than Kinny. When Maddie offers her a place to stay so that she can work at an animal shelter, her dream job, she jumps at the chance even though she doesn’t want to impose. Quickly after arriving, Kinny’s feelings change from friendship to love. She’s always loved him but deep down, she knows that it’s more than just friendly affection. Can Kinny take the chance at love with Maddie or will she be too scared to take the risk? It was so sweet and easy at first but it can’t be that easy, can it?
Maddie and Kinnie both had reservations crossing the line but once they did, damn was it hot! Whew! Maddox was such a dirty talker. It was super sexy and so damn hot. Their chemistry burned white hot! I loved this love story. It was sweet, swoony, heartbreaking, angsty, and emotional. There were times my chest physically ached with the pain of what they both went through to get their HEA. I laughed, melted, swooned, and devoured. This was a beautiful love story that I wholeheartedly enjoyed from beginning to end! I loved the extended epilogue as well. I highly recommend reading this book!
5 stars for The Change Up by Meghan Quinn. I received an ARC of this book. All opinions stated are my own. Maddox is the bad boy of baseball but he is more than that to his best friend Kinsley. These two have been best friends since they were 5 years old. They have only ever had best friend feelings towards each other but will all that change when Kinsley needs a place to stay. Kinsley has the biggest heart and wants to save all the animals and the plant. “Maddox might look like a rebel on the outside, and might act like one on the baseball field, but in real life, when he’s with me, he’s nothing but loving, protective….a broken man looking for someone to love him.” This book is a best friend to lovers romance at its finest. We get everything we love when we are reading Meghan’s books. However, let me just say this book had some steamy scenes that had me panting. LOL . I did love getting to hear from Jason again . He had me laughing till I had tears. I loved getting to hear about our favorite Rebels. I am ready to learn more about Linc. Back to Maddox and Kinsley , these two are meant for each other. They could not be more opposite but that makes the story that much better. This is another great book from Meghan Quinn. On a different subject how hot is the cover of this book. The model on the front is gorgeous and man those tattoos. Loving this cover Meghan.
Oh Maddox Paige I think I love you! The Change Up brings us back to The Rebels baseball team and to its star pitcher. Maddox is everything a bad boy should be; tattooed, ready to fight, sexy with a heart of gold. Maddox and Kinsley have been friends since they were young and when a job opportunity brings her to Chicago the ultimate sparks fly. This book is the absolute perfect friends to lovers read. I laughed. I cried. I want to immediately reread this book. Loved it!
Oh Maddox, you really are the bad boy of baseball, I can’t even be sure you’ll ever calm your ways, but if anyone can calm you down and get you to see reason, it’s got to be your best friend forever, Kinsley Howard. Beautiful, sweet Kinsley, loves the planet, loves the animals, loves life, and most importantly is Maddox’s biggest fan. It works both ways though, and when Kinsley needs somewhere in the city to stay Maddox doesn’t hesitate to offer up his apartment. It’s either a really good idea, or a really, really bad idea. You decide. Just remember, Maddox is hotheaded, pig headed, and acts first and thinks later. That said he’s got heart of gold (I blooming loved him). He loves his privacy, and he’s a little OCD, funnily enough Kinsley is the exact opposite, but you know what they say? Opposites attract, and yes, it is certainly the case for these two BFFs, they totally complement each other, but could they ever be anything more? A wonderful, funny, addictive and sexy best friends to lovers romance. I received an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest review.
The ultimate friends to lovers romance with the hot, tattooed baseball player and his best friend. I laughed, I cried, I blushed and I just could not put this down. Maddox and Kinsley made me fall in love with them from the very beginning.
***4 ‘Team Maddox’ Stars***
This baby took me one hell of a ride. I grinned and swooned like a fool, growled in frustration and hurt my eyes from quite a bit of rolling. But I also got to catch up with a few favs and in the end thoroughly enjoyed the ride.
I ADORED Maddox. Not that I’m all that surprised since I have a soft spot for the broody ones with a soft heart, and that is soooo Maddox. I loved getting to see beneath the tattoos and bad boy image to the man with a huge, yet bruised heart. Kinsley. Here’s the thing about Kinsley. She is truly a good person with a heart of gold, it was hard not to like her, but…I know the dreadful ‘BUT’…she unfortunately hit on one of my pet peeves and hit hard on it and though I got it, though I liked her, I was also quite annoyed with her throughout part of the book. It’s a total “it’s not you, it’s me’ sitch, and it sucks big time because she really is a genuinely good person.
As for their friends to lovers journey. Right off the bat (hehe) I knew they were meant to be together. I loved their bantering and just how easy it was for them to simply ‘BE’ together. Of course when they finally figured out that they could be more than just friends, well, things definitely got all kinds of HAWT. As for the big sinkhole in their journey…well, I hurt for them both, and wanted to Gibbs smack the hell out of Maddox…but I gotta say, that was some epic grovelling. That was definitely taking it deep and I thoroughly approve of it all and loved that they got their HEA.
The author definitely went hard with this one in every way, but it was totally worth it in the end. I loved getting to catch up with Corey and Jason (it’s strange how much I love him as a supporting character in the books) and seeing how their relationships are evolving. And then there is Lincoln…toes are crossed that he’ll be getting his own HEA at some point in the future.

Five Herman Floppy Ear Stars! One of my favorite best friends to lovers romances I’ve ever read! Maddox is such an incredibly handsome, talented, bad boy…the best sort of contradiction. Kinsley is one of those granola loving, recycling, animal loving beauties. Loved their close, sweet friendship and how she was Maddox’s number one fan and cheerleader. These two were so entertaining and Herman melted me into a puddle of goo. The angsty scene about tore me into pieces but the healing made it all worth it. Highly recommend Maddox and the entire series of baseball players. So. Worth. It!
