Long ago, Natalie’s mother faced an agonizing choice between the two people she loved most, and the difficult resolution to her predicament affects Natalie throughout her young life–fueling a season of teenage rebellion that results in the death of her best friend. As a young woman, Natalie attempts to put her troubles behind her, ultimately finding solace in the arms of a man with close ties to … close ties to the tragedy. Yet neither time nor love can liberate her from the past. Determined to confront her terrible guilt, Natalie embarks on a journey that will take her thousands of miles from home and straight into the life and heart of a man unlike any she has ever known.
Confronted with a decision that echoes the one her mother faced so many years before, Natalie finds herself drawn to two men–each of whom holds a claim to her heart. But the sins of her past must be confronted, and an escape from her guilt found, before her heart will be free to find its home.
Showing that God can forgive the gravest of sins, After the Rains beautifully illustrates that his forgiveness comes purely through loving mercy and grace, not by our human efforts to earn it.

I loved the first book in this series
Got long
I have read and enjoyed several of Deborah Raney’s books, and this was no exception. She paint realistic, modern-day life’s problems. In this book, Natalie wrestles with who she is; with a touch of senioritis and teenage rebellion, she makes a terrible mistake by driving drunk, and killing her best friend. It follows her for 4 years through college and a missionary trip to spend time with her birth dad. A good read!
Highly recommend!
I was happy to read this book because it was a sequel to Under a Southern Sky. The characters are real and I quickly became immersed in the story.
Young woman has a crush on a boy, but he liked her sister. Young woman is a little rebellious and tries beer. Her best friend try’s to get her to leave. There’s a terrible accident, killing her friend. Her struggles through college to find forgiveness. Feels calling to another country. Finds redemption and love. Great story.
This book series is absolutely fantastic! Debora Raney always delivers a unique story that not only tugs on your heart, but challenges your faith.
Could hardly put it down.
I have enjoyed all of Deb Raney’s books. They challenge you to think and apply what you believe.
I think the writer is gifted in how she tells the story and definitely lead by God!
I enjoyed this book even though the ending was happy I was hoping for a different ending. The book was very real about problems and trying to deal with them with the characters. The ending seemed a little rushed and all ends well.
One of my favorite authors
This two book series really grabbed me and remains with me. A husband’s tragic loss on the mission field propels his family into heartbreaking decisions that alter many lives. Get ready to go on a journey with this author’s lovable, flawed characters and the sacrifices they make for each other. I will continue to read this author and I am very glad that I discovered her.
Altho a sequel to “Beneath A Southern Sky” it’s storyline stood on it’s own. It included adventure, family situations, some romance, tense moments, and kept me wanting to not put it down. I felt it would be an informative book for young teens who could see that their choices and actions during those years can have very deep and lasting effects on their lives, and others, both good and bad. The story moved along and was well written. I’ve enjoyed all of Deborah Raney’s books that I’ve read.
The plot has a not expected twist and is thought provoking.
The story told could happen to any woman. How do you handle tragedy, humility, embarrassment, and family problems with an unwanted pregnancy.
