The Wicked Cries Wolf is the third book in the series. I have not read the others but this book can be a stand alone and there is enough back story to understand what has happened before with the Kyndall Family.
The story begins with Meaghan Ryers, a writer who wants to disappear to finish her book. Meaghan is being hounded for an interview due to a fire closely resembling a plot from one of her books. With her sister’s help she decides to rent a cabin in Alaska to relax and write without interruptions.
On her way to the rental cabin, Meaghan smells and sees smoke from a burning vehicle. As she gets out of her rental car to see if she can help, she suddenly hears a scream and a shot. Suddenly the sheriff the Sherriff appears and pulls her away from the burning car. He interrogates her as part of his investigation and makes sure she gets to safety. Meaghan has accidently gotten herself involved in mystery which will bring the FBI in, although they are not officially involved which makes the mystery even more perplexing.
I love the way the the author, McKenna Grey writes. Her story draws you in with her descriptive and detailed story. However there are some blanks that do not get filled in which left me wondering if this was part of the story or if it was left dangling for the next book. All in all I really enjoyed this story of a writer that gets involved in a mystery. Comparing the thought process of a Sherriff and a writer was an interesting plotline. We all think differently, a Sheriff needs to solve the crime but a writer tells a story.

Great Book! The characters really draw you in and keep the reader wanting to read more. When reading as part of the series the pattern of events become known before you start reading. Each book in the series follows the same pattern but none the less this book is just as entertaining as the others. Would be good to read as a stand alone as well.

I have mixed feelings about this book. First, it needs more editing, not much, but there were a few errors that stood out to me. What I didn’t like about the book: I felt no real connection between the heroine and the hero, and only slightly with the siblings. The character Damien had no real purpose except his murders, which really didn’t pertain to the main “secret/crime”, and was quite anticlimactic in its resolution. The main idea of the mystery left me disappointed and thinking “really? “. What I did like: It was well written. The setting…..it was perfect and could have delivered a fantastic thriller, unfortunately it didnt. The idea of the characters, the writer, the sheriff, his siblings. As I said this could have been an amazing thriller, if gone in a different direction. Perhaps with the protagonist ‘s stalky reporter, or one of several other options. For those three reasons alone I’m giving it 3 stars. Honestly, I feel like this was a missed opportunity for a real treasure by the author. However, this is simply my opinion and someone else may find it a wonderful read.
WOW, what a read! The plot was intense, powerful and thrilling and held me captive all the way through! The characters fairly leaped off the page, and the tension was palpable. If you are looking for a book that you just CAN’T put down, then this is DEFINITELY the book for you!
