Her Football Star Ex (Rich and Famous Romance)

Mixed emotions here. I love redemption stories, and this is a redemption story. It’s also a story that raises many questions along with a lot of issues plaguing society today. It probably will bring out mixed feelings in the reader, some positive and some not so positive, especially with the characters.

When it comes to betrayal, adultery and blame, it’s natural to form opinions. It’s easy to choose sides. This book shows just how unfair life can be and that there are consequences to choices made. I’ve heard that trust must be earned, not given. How about forgiveness? Where and how does one forgive? All of this is tackled in this storyline.

OBSERVATIONS and WISHES

… So glad I stuck with this book. You see, the one who’s been betrayed is hurting and the one who was the betrayer also is hurting. As the story progress, more emotion comes across, more pain is seen and more questions arise.

… It’s never easy understanding why a spouse cheats. And here, I never did understand. This was a ‘one off’ thing. Happened once and Vincent realizes what he did. He was drunk? So what? That is no excuse. We keep hearing a lot of ‘self talk’ about being guilty, being sorry, being remorseful, but we need more than ‘self-talk’. I wanted to ‘feel’ his remorse, not just be told about it through his self-talk. We need to at least try to understand WHY? His injury wasn’t major or career ending. His wife was depressed, with GOOD reason. So he’s on a pity party and cheats. I wanted more feelings, more emotion, more depth.

… I also wanted to hear his confession to his wife. We’re just told that he tells her he cheated, she kicks him out and is bitter and resentful. Can’t say I blame her.

… Vincent allows Emerson, to take all the public shame and humiliation for their divorce. What kind of man is he? She did nothing wrong but she got all the heat, all the stares, all the made-up lies from the press. But Vincent and the other woman get off scott free.

… And speaking of the ‘other woman’, there’s nothing innocent there. She’s as guilty and wrong as Vincent.

… Does the truth EVER come out? All those gossipers, as well as the press, had to raise questions about Evelyn. We need more to the story than an epilogue that says ‘four years later’. A child just isn’t born a four year old. Where are those gossipers and the press? Vincent is so concerned about bad press, how does he hide the truth about Evelyn?

… Emerson comes across as either hot or cold, especially in the beginning. Wish she had NOT taken on ‘false guilt’ later in the book. It was his fault, his choice to break their vows. Marriage has ups and downs, cheating is never the answer. His cheating was never her fault. No need for false guilt.

… Vincent needed to do the chasing, not her!!!! He was the one that destroyed their family. I wanted to see him trying to win her back, not just talk about it.

I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book but I was hooked pretty quickly. Vincent Lake was the star NFL quarterback for the Denver Dragons football team. Vincent had cheated on his wife, Emerson, when he got drunk one night. They had had some difficult times in their marriage and he had just been injured and circumstances stacked up and he make a HUGE mistake. Emerson divorced Vincent because she couldn’t forgive him for his infidelity.

This story is about forgiveness and the power of love, though. I loved to see both Emerson and Vincent work through their feelings. It was really hard and you could feel how difficult it was for both of them throughout the story but their love was more powerful and they were both willing to do the hard stuff to make it work.

I am sure this was not an easy story to tell and I applaud the author for her sensitivity to this topic. I would describe the story was mostly clean and definitely sweet. There are topics of infidelity and premarital sex, though, there are no graphic details.

I was given an arc copy of this book and I willingly offer my honest review.

A tear-jerker story of redemption…

Thank you, Judy, for daring to write this novel of Emerson and Vincent’s rocky relationship. As a woman notoriously known for hardly shedding a tear, my eyes were wet many times during this story.

I loved the way Judy portrayed Vincent in particular. At no point did I hate him. He made one awful, life-altering mistake, yet even the worst of us should be allowed the dignity to show our remorse and regret through our actions and deeds… and Vincent did this. Not once did he behave abhorrently after his error and I loved that he was granted a second chance.

Beautifully written, so emotive. Thank you, Judy, for this real, gritty, passionate, painful… powerful story. Bravo!

Emerson divorced famous football player Vincent when he had a one night stand with another woman. His foolish behavior has led to lots of fallout that has affected a number of people. He is remorseful and has not moved on to start dating again and he is an attentive father to their son. This is a story of reconciliation under circumstances that seem almost impossible to overcome. But I know a real couple who are living this story and it is possible to forgive the unforgivable with Christ’s help. This story is highly emotional and the couple is very appealing with great chemistry so be prepared to strap in–you won’t want to put it down! Highly recommend!

(4.5 Stars) I’ve often wondered what I would do in certain situations, but it’s tough to know without actually being in the thick of things. When Emerson’s husband, Vincent, cheats on her, she files for divorce, but they each discover that might have been a hasty decision, because the sparks are still flying higher than the 4th of July fireworks.

Corry does a great job of infusing a steamy clean romance with heartfelt sincerity and regret with this original story. These characters have gone through all the emotions and drag the reader along for the ride too and I appreciated that although cheating is at the center of all the trauma/drama, real remorse is felt and applied. This is one story that was really easy to settle into and enjoy.
