In 1998, fiery Eleanor “Els” Gordon thought the new century would find her married to her childhood soul mate, rejuvenating her family’s Scottish Highlands estate, and finally earning a managing director title at her investment bank. Maybe she’d even have the courage to discover why her estranged mother ran home to Italy thirty years earlier.
But when 2000 dawns, Els is mourning her fiancé and … fiancé and her father, and she’s unemployed, broke, and sharing an antique plantation house on the Caribbean island of Nevis with the ghost—or “jumbie”—of Jack Griggs, the former owner. Jack’s jumbie wangles Els’s help in making amends for wrongs committed during his Casanova life, and in exchange he appoints himself Cupid on behalf of a charter captain who’s as skittish about vulnerability as Els. Meanwhile, Els lures her mother to Nevis in hopes of unraveling the family secrets—but will the shocking truth set her free, or pull her fragile new happiness apart?
A moving and lyrical novel that transports readers from lush tropics to rugged highlands and back again, The Moon Always Rising explores how the power of forgiveness can help even the most damaged person fix whatever is broken.

I could’ve checked off all the “what-did-I-like” options, except perhaps “action-packed” and “tear-jerker”. MOON takes us to Nevis in the Caribbean, where we meet a “jumbie” (ghost) who’s as haunted by his own past as the woman who buys his house. Recommended for anyone in need of an escape to the islands, and especially for lovers of #coastalfiction.
A sweeping tale set in the Caribbean about a Scottish heiress and investment banker who loses it all and retreats to Nevis to rethink her life.
When Els buys a house that is inhabited by a Cantankerous womanizing ghost he will push her far out of her comfort zone — to question the relationship she has lacked with her absent mother, and whether she can rebuild a life here that includes Liz, a man to whom she is attracted. But also a man with his own past wounds.
I loved how Els is dealing with many types of ghosts through the story. Ghosts of her past, as well as Jack — a real present time ghost living in her house. Jack is a character who has regrets and wants Els help to fix them before he can move on to the next realm.
Poetic and ironic and fun and beautiful.
The Moon Always Rising is pure escapism, tinged with magic. A lovely lyrical, enjoyable read, filled with fluid, beautiful prose that sweeps you away to the island of Nevis.
A spellbinding story that held me captive from beginning to end. So excellent the writing, I tasted the rum and felt the salty sea breeze. A blue bead and a pair of panties will guide you to the last turn of the page. You’re going to love it!
This novel is a jambalaya of genres with a bit of everything: Gothic romance in a Scottish castle filled with family mysteries and tragedy, a frustrated businesswoman with a broken heart who impulsively decides to change her life by relocating to a tropical paradise, a new “family” of native oddballs that assemble around her, a meet-cute love interest, and the sudden appearance of a long-absent mother with a vital secret she’s reluctant to share. And, as if that isn’t enough, there is a Ghost and Mrs. Muir- flirtation with the deceased former owner of her new home. We follow the prickly heroine as the shell around her unpeels with each challenge she faces in building her new life, with a little help from the spirit world. A fun read with important life lessons delivered in the gorgeous setting of most of our fantasies. Enjoy.
I picked up this book mainly because of the title, I love the name.
I really had a hard time reading this book, not only because the formating still wasn’t done (I totally get that) but still I had to check a few times to see if I was reading right. I never had the chance to identify with the main character. it feels at all times like the Main character has no feelings or maybe that suppose to be the case.
I got lost with the story, I felt like the scenarios change so fast and I couldn’t really get the feelings and emotions of what was happening because on the next page we were dealing with another scenario.
Some of the things that I enjoy about The Moon Always Rising were the interaction between Eulice and Vivienne, and also Finley that’s what really made me enjoy the book. the way the author writes is also beautiful I feel like she has so much potential but in this book, her words got lost a few times in the pages.
The only reason I’m giving this book 3 stars it’s because I couldn’t feel the story and the characters I felt at lost at all times and I never got to feel the warmth of the story.
