What a sweet, powerful story of forgiveness and second chances. I really enjoyed the story of Jillian and Sam and what happened eight years before this story took place. Now they were both older and wiser.
I liked how Sam came back to his church as a leader and pastor when needed. The many camps he participated in sounded like fun. I also liked that he even learned something from the youth he worked with.
It is a beautiful story too of families and how they can come together in times of need. Jillian was needed with her mom being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and to help with her sister’s wedding. How nice that Jillian can help other families through her foundation and Sam can help them through his church. I received a copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Jillian left Sam standing at the altar eight years ago when she left for a job in California. You will admire how Jillian has returned home to help care for her mother who has just been diagnosed with dementia! I respected Sam who is now the youth pastor and has plans to build a home for troubled youth. You will enjoy reading Second Chance Love as Sam tries to understand why Jillian left him without an explanation and Jillian realizes she should have tried harder to talk to Sam. Both Jillian and Sam have matured during their eight year separation but can they trust each other now? I recommend this book to others. I received an advance e-book from the author. This is my honest opinion.
Jillian comes back to Pinecrest because her parents need her, she needs to help with her sister Allie’s wedding and when Allie leaves home Jillian will need to help her Dad with her Mom. They just found out that she is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s.
Jillian is a little unsure how things will work out in Pinecrest because 8 years ago she walked out on Sam on her wedding day. Didn’t talk to him about why she was leaving just didn’t show up for the wedding. It has been 8 years and they still haven’t talked about it. Now she wishes she would have done things differently because she is still in love with him and hopes they can get back together.
Sam has gotten by and thinks he has the past buries until Jillian comes back into town and now old feelings begin to surface. Will he be able to forgive Jillian for walking out on him and can they find the love they once had.
This book is well written, has great characters, is easy to read and I think you will enjoy it as much as I did.
What would be your reaction if you learned the person who left you at the altar has plans to move back to town? This is the situation that our hero, Sam Lawson, finds himself in when he learns that his ex-fiancé, Jillian Rodgers, has returned home after a long absence. Jillian quietly wonders if they might get back together, but that is the last thing on his mind.
Merrillee Whren skillfully weaves situations which force the two of them to be together. There are family members who would love to see them reunite. Still, Sam has misgivings about what might happen and is reluctant to again give his heart to Jillian.
I always enjoy the small-town settings that the author creates. The townspeople are the kind of people many of us know or would like to know. They have connections to each other that feel very real and not contrived for the sake of the story. I suspect that many readers have friends who might set up situations to try and bring people together.
The reader gets to know more about their lives during the years apart as Sam and Jillian start trying to put the pieces of their prior relationship back together and figure out if they can learn from the past and move forward. Self-doubt comes into play as they stumble along the road to
forgiveness.
This is the first book in a new series by Ms. Whren. I was pleased to have the opportunity to accept an advance copy from the author with no promise of a positive review. However, I found Second Chance Love to be in keeping with the high standards I have learned to expect from her and will be eagerly awaiting the next book in this series.
A very sweet love story dealing with past relationship wounds. Can love be found even after time has moved on and lives have taken different turns? Faith, family, trust and more are found in this heartwarming story. I received a complimentary copy of the book. No review was required.
