I haven’t been able to read a book so fast in a while, and this book made me hungry. I read and laughed and cried, oh, if I cried a lot. It’s a mellow love story and I enjoyed it very, very much. Thank you to the authors for all the feelings.
All This Time was so incredibly good. The author put an interesting twist and spin on this story that completely shocked and thrilled me. I won’t like that this book really had me sad at the events that happen to Kyle. I wasn’t sure I could bring myself to finish reading it, but I’m so glad I did. Kyle, Kim, Sam, and Marley were really beautiful characters and seeing these different sides to them was intriguing. There was life before Kyle’s accident and life afterwards. I love how Kyle had to work through his life and relationship with his girlfriend and best friend to see to the truth. He grows into this strong character who learns from his mistakes, becomes a better person, and has a beautiful future to look forward to.
The twist was bittersweet and I loved how the author made all these parallels. It made the ending so well done and quite beautiful to read.
Kyle and Kim have been together since middle school. To Kyle, there can be no one else but her. But on the night of their graduation, Kim decides to call it quits. After so many years together, she wants to find out who she is on her own. And as Kyle realizes he may lose the one person he planned to spend forever with, a car crashes into them ending Kim’s life. Kyle is forced to face the horrific truth that Kim is gone.
All This Time is a book steeped in emotion. Kyle experiences such profound grief and guilt over Kim’s death. And it doesn’t help when his splitting headaches cause flashbacks of the accident or trick him into hearing Kim’s voice. Everyone grieves in their own way, and experiencing Kyle’s emotions throughout his recovery breaks your heart. But despite everything Kyle goes through, and no matter how low he feels, there is some way or some person that instills hope in him. Even if it is just the smallest little inkling of hope.
But Kyle truly learns to live again when he meets Marley. A quiet girl who’s lost her sister and silently grieves. When a chance encounter makes Kyle and Marley cross paths at the graveyard it leads them into a new friendship. Kyle learns how to communicate his own emotions by helping Marley and it was the heartwarming balance needed for such a tragic story. Everything Kyle felt towards Marley, the confusion, the guilt, the need to move forward, felt so real. Readers will be poised on the edge waiting for Kyle to accept his new path in life and allow himself to be happy once again.
And if you enjoy books that throw twists into the plot you never see coming, All This Time should definitely be your next read. The twist completely threw me. I had to stop reading for a minute to process what happened. Then I needed to know where the story would take the characters, and how in the world all the pieces lined up.
All This Time was such a great read. There were so many different elements that kept me reading. It isn’t just a story about love and loss. It’s about moving on and realizing life can be unpredictable. Sometimes the paths we see ourselves walking aren’t the ones we end up on. And it’s ok to change what we want to do and where we want to go. I will be sure to read every book Mikki Daughtry and Rachael Lippincott write.
We all know the saying “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” With that in mind, this review will be brief.
All This Time is coauthored by Mikki Daughtry and Rachael Lippincott, the writes behind Five Feet Apart (which I did enjoy). The best thing I can say about All This Time is that, at 238 pages, I only wasted a few hours of my day reading it.
Kyle has had the same girlfriend since middle school. The night of their high school graduation, he has a gift ready that he is sure will fix whatever is going wrong, because something is definitely bothering his girlfriend Kimberly. Unfortunately, before the night is over, they will be in a horrific car crash and Kyle will emerge with a traumatic brain injury and Kimberly will not survive.
SPOILERS AHEAD….. stop here if you don’t want to read them.
Let me rewrite that last sentence…. Unfortunately, before the night is over, they will be in a horrific car crash and Kyle will emerge with a traumatic brain injury and Kimberly will not survive…. or will she? The first inkling things may not be as they seemed was by far the most interesting thing that had happened in the story up until that point.
BACK TO SPOILER FREE DOWN HERE….. come on back.
I don’t know if I have ever rolled my eyes so many times reading a book, and I have read well over 1,000. This story was so ridiculous. There’s nothing wrong with an unreliable narrator. It can often make a story quite interesting, as I mentioned in my recent review of Believe Me by J.P. Delaney. In this case, it initially verged on ridiculous before careening into an absolutely absurd trope. The writing felt fantastical, but not in a good way. The characters were lacking in any sort of depth, be in emotional or in terms of character development.
I just realized I said at the beginning I would not say much, since I did not have anything nice to say, and I clearly did not deliver on that promise.
Let me wrap it up. Do yourselves a favor, and skip this one. If you don’t believe me (and of course you don’t have to), at least be sure you borrow the book instead of buying it.
This is so much more than a book!!!!!!!!!
It is a masterpiece; an ode to dreamers everywhere! Don’t give up on your dream. Even if it seems impossible or unachievable, life has a way of working itself out. You’ll see. And if it doesn’t? You can always push it in the right direction…
This book is about two people grieving for people who were very close to them and died. These two people are thrust together by shared pain and renewed hope.
All This Time had surprise twists and turns. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen, that happened and then I was like… Why you gotta do this to me Mikki and Rachael? Really?
But, I am so happy they did because if they didn’t, I would have never gotten to read their carefully constructed masterpiece! If I could give this book more stars, I mother-loving would. All This Time deserves all the recognition in the world! I am so happy I read this. I’ve been going through things and believe it or not, this book gave me motivation to keep living.
That maybe living this out will be worth it. Maybe I’ll find my Kyle… Or he’ll finally notice what has been right in front of him all along…
With that being said, I recommend this book to anyone who is contemplating giving up. This book helped me remember I can still achieve my dreams. Hope is not lost yet. Maybe this book can do the same for others.
Have you ever had a book that you were so inside the story, so with the characters, so tethered to every word that was uttered, every feeling conveyed, every moment captured…that you were simply wrecked by book’s end? I mean like in tears, sighing with relief or acceptance, and quite honestly needing a few moments at the very least before you could even think about wrangling your thoughts into something coherent, or ,goodness forbid, reading something else? Yeah, that’s me with this book.
Kyle and Kimberly were a couple for as long as anyone could remember, which is especially long in today’s world where some folks trade significant others like flavors of the week…but sometimes that familiarity, sometimes that constant togetherness, can make it hard for them to see themselves anymore. The bomb drop on graduation night was epic…but the fallout would last SO much longer and affect so many lives in ways no one could possible imagine. Throughout the ordeal, we get to know Kyle like never before, Kimberly more in depth, Sam beneath his jock-ish bravado, and Marley to the very core of her soul. All those connections, all those life links are going to come into play at different times throughout the story, and no matter how insignificant they may seem in the moment, their importance is a matter of sanity or downward spiraling, looking back constantly or moving forward…quite literally life or death.
I can’t say enough and yet I don’t want to spoil it for you. You deserve to experience it all for the first time too…untainted, uncertain, and yet fully involved. So if this sounds like a story you may like, or perhaps you enjoyed the other book, make haste to clear your calendar for a read of this remarkable release. It’ll certainly remind you of the important things in life, and to treat each day like the present it is.
**ARC received for review; opinions are my own
Right off the bat I’m telling you I give this 5 Stars and that this was a beautifully written book with such originality. I love when I find Authors that can still manage to bring you a storyline that will outright surprise you. The characters are so likable and the dialogue is impeccable. I almost didn’t want the story to end.

Kyle & Kimberly were that storybook couple . They were friends since childhood, fell in love and have been dating since they were kids all through High School. They are celebrating their graduation day when Kimberly opens up to Kyle about some things that turn Kyle’s world upside down.
Kyle takes off with Kimberly still in the car, bad weather and lightning almost cause Kyle to drive off the road. He can’t believe what he’s hearing. So to be safe he pulls off to the side of the road when suddenly the headlights in the rear view mirror and blare of a truck horn ends in a crash that ends Kimberly’s life.
As Kyle is in recovery in the hospital, everything is a blur. His mom brings him home but he becomes a recluse. Kyle doesn’t know how to live without Kimberly. He cuts himself off from everyone that knows him even his and Kimberly’s best friend, Sam. He replays words that Kimberly said and some begin to make sense. He sees her, hears and feels her still and it terrifies him.
He meets a girl named Marley who is trying to overcome loss of her own. And through this common thread they are able to connect and relate like never before.
As things progress, a sudden realization occurs that shocks Kyle and blows up everything up that he’s worked so hard at putting back together.
Sometimes all we need is someone to lend an ear and listen to our fairy tales. Sometimes fairy tales do come true but not without a whole lot of heartache and grief.
Kyle has the perfect life. He has a beautiful girlfriend, it is graduation night, they’re going off to college together. What more could he want? Kyle figures out a big secret Kim has kept from him. They argue, she breaks up with him, flashing lights, Kim screaming and then darkness. When he comes to he’s in the hospital and Kim is dead. How can he ever move on from her and the grief.
Kyle crosses paths with a girl named Marley. He feels that she may understand him more than anyone else. That maybe through all their grief that with time maybe they can start to heal together.
But things are not exactly as they seem and soon this world that seems to be leading them in the right direction comes crashing down and all the pieces are once again scattered but maybe this time they will not fit back together.
This book was pure brilliance!! Yes there were a lot of twists and turns in this book, some would say it was too many and overdone. I say not at all. I loved how all the threads of the story had so many twists but in the end they all wove together in this fabulous story of timeless love.
Sometimes a song just fits with a book and I love when that happens. Whats not to love right; books and music. My song for All This Time is Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper. This part just fits so perfectly with ATT. **I do not own rights for these lyrics**
If you’re lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall, I will catch you, I’ll be waiting
Time after time
**Thank you NetGalley and Simon and Schuster Canada for the ARC. All statements are my own personal opinions on this book**
I loved this book! It made me feel all of the emotions.
There are sad, devastating moments in this book, but they don’t last too long until things are happy again. I like that this book isn’t just happy from beginning to end. There are struggles, ups and downs, times when you wonder if the characters will ever really be happy again, but that’s life. It’s realistic in that aspect.
I liked how grief is shown in this book. It isn’t linear. There’s no set time limit for when the grief subsides. It takes time to face the grief and start to feel better, but some days you have set backs where you feel blindsided all over again.
The two main characters, Kyle and Marley, are both working through the deaths of people close to them, and find solace in one another. Sometimes it takes another person to help pull you out of the darkness, especially if that someone understands what you’re going through.
Kyle and Marley accept one another for who they are, and truly bring out the best in each other. They each provide a listening ear, and patience. They don’t push each other to share things until each one is ready in their own time, and I love that. Their relationship is so sweet and pure. It’s the best thing about this book.
This book had me crying happy tears by the end. I would definitely recommend this if you’re a fan of young adult.
Also, one of the authors, Mikki Daughtry writes a note to readers at the end, and it’s beautiful!
