Some loves will last ‘til your dying breath
Every choice has consequences–but seventeen-year-old Layla faces tougher choices than most. Light or darkness. Wickedly sexy demon prince Roth, or Zayne, the gorgeous, protective Warden she never thought could be hers. Hardest of all, Layla has to decide which side of herself to trust.
Layla has a new problem, too. A Lilin–the deadliest of … Lilin–the deadliest of demons–has been unleashed, wreaking havoc on those around her…including her best friend. To keep Sam from a fate much, much worse than death, Layla must strike a deal with the enemy while saving her city–and her race–from destruction.
Torn between two worlds and two different boys, Layla has no certainties, least of all survival, especially when an old bargain comes back to haunt them all. But sometimes, when secrets are everywhere and the truth seems unknowable, you have to listen to your heart, pick a side–and then fight like hell…

Jennifer L Armentrout was the first author to make me cry for a demon. How many times can you cry for the crown prince of hell? Every freaking time. Though I have read the book several times, this was my first audiobook “read through” and yes I cried again.
Even knowing what is coming the feels, both in the written version and the audio, choke you. You physically ache. The writing, the story, and the audio all win my heart.
But which will win yours…
Are you Team Roth or Team Zayne?
THIS SERIES IS EVERYTHING!
So you know that feeling, when something is so painfully heart breaking that your chest sinks? Yeah well, this book did that to me.
This book had my heart aching. The ending was so well done. I was gasping and my eyes were filled with tears.
I was so involved with this series emotionally.
——
The betrayal from those she trusted was heart breaking. The way Jennifer l Armentrout explains the characters emotions are so incredible. I felt every heartbreak, every sad and happy moment, every heated moment, everything.
——
I thought the characters were amazing and easy to love and or hate.
I LOVED Roth with my entire being. (So many similarities to Hawke from FBAA but younger) I loved his smart comments and sexual references. I loved how protective he is of Layla but still respects her decision and choices.
I could really feel Layla growing up and maturing throughout the three books. She became very brave and selfless in the end. I’m feeling proud of her hahaha.
Let’s just say I’m glad there’s another series based on Zayne because he deserves the world after all he has been through.
——
The world building and magical system was very good. It was simple and yet complex. I enjoyed it.
It took me awhile to figure out what Layla was but it eventually clicked.
——
Overall, loved everything about this book. Can’t really say there was anything I reallly hated. I enjoyed it. It was super quick to read. Easy to understand 4/5
“I will not stand for one hair on her head to be harmed. If you want her, you’re going to have to go through me.”
“If losing Sam had taught me anything, it was to seize life – seize everything it had to offer, including the tears, the anger and loss, but most of all, the laughter and the love. To just seize life.”
We pick up right where the last book left off which means we jump right into the action. It turns out that the Lilan had been masquerading as Sam after it consumed his soul. Now Layla, Roth, and the Wardens have to find a way to stop the Lilan before the Alphas step in and take matters into their own hands.
There was a lot of stuff that happened in this book, from Layla finally choosing a guy to the characters figuring out a way to stop the Lilan, and all of the drama, pain, sacrifice, and snarkiness that goes along with all of it. You really get taken on an emotional rollercoaster in this book. I laughed, I cried, I yelled, I wanted to smack some characters. So basically, the usual reactions to one of Jennifer Armentrout’s books. There’s not really very much more I can say without spoiling a lot of stuff so you’ll just have to go read the book to find out exactly what happens, just prepare yourself for some major mood swings.
“I, Astaroth, Crown Prince of Hell, am in love with you, Layla Shaw. Yesterday. Today. Tomorrow. A hundred decades from now, I will still be in love with you, and it will be as fierce today as it will be a decade later.”
“I don’t think you understand what it means when a demon falls in love, Layla. It doesn’t go away. It doesn’t fade, even if we want it to. We love until death. That’s not just something we say. We love and we love once and it’s forever. No matter what.”

: Every Last Breath
: The Dark Elements #3
: Jennifer L. Armentrout
: 5/5
The end is near and I couldn’t be happier (yes this might sound weird but I just want Layla to choose lol and in this book she did). I won’t spoil who she chooses, but in the end I think it was the best match for her. Cayman is such a fun secondary character, I liked getting to know him more in this book. Then that part about Bambi had me crying like, what?! (won’t say anything else, because NO SPOILERS). The writing and the pace was really good in this one, I did not want to stop reading and was totally immersed in this world. I love how JLA decided to end this series, but there are definitely some unanswered questions if you ask me. One thing that is for sure, is that Layla has her happily ever after. Overall, I am recommending this whole series to fantasy romance lovers out there!

Every Last Breath is the final book to the Dark Elements series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. This book left me wanting more of this world that Jennifer created with the gargoyle shifters, and demons, especially since a specific character deserves a happily ever after, too. Everyone deserves a HEA!
Storyline/My Thoughts: If you didn’t read the previous books, then I would recommend not reading this review. I’m going to try not to spoil anything, but unfortunately, something could slip that would give away the storyline to readers. Every Last Breath picks up where Stone Cold Touch ended. This is where Layla, Roth, Stacey, and Zayne find out who is the Lilin. It’s was heartbreaking. The Lilin is on a mission to wreak havoc topside and try to free his mother, Lilith, from below. Layla and her group of friends need to prevent that from happening, but they are unsure how to find out. Layla is on another mission to find out how to free her friend’s soul that the Lilin consumed. She’ll do anything.
If you read the first books, you would realize there was a love triangle between the main characters. In this book, Layla chooses. It felt kind of rushed when I was reading it, and I felt sorry for the person she didn’t choose. (As I stated above, everyone deserves a HEA.) It’s bad enough that a person ends up having something else happen towards the end of the book. Seriously, Jennifer L. Armentrout, this character already had his heartbroken.
The storyline in this book was okay. It wasn’t like the first two books. The drama and trying to stop the Lilin felt rushed. There was no build-up and not enough wreaking havoc from the Lilin. There was too much lovey-dovey in this book. (if that makes sense) I also felt that Roth had changed in this book. He wasn’t the same as the first books. Don’t get me wrong, I really liked Roth, but he read differently.
The ending was predictable, too, in this book. I already knew who Layla picked and had a feeling that there was not going to be a dramatic ending that would be permanent. (I don’t want to spoil it.)
Overall, this book receives four stars from me and not five stars. Will, I re-read this trilogy? Yes, especially since I fell hard for both Zayne and Roth. I also loved other characters in this book that grew on me.
I look forward to reading the spin-off of this series, The Harbinger.
Standalone or Part of Series: It’s part of the Dark Elements series.
Cliffhanger: No.
HEA: Yes.
Would I recommend this book? Yes. If you are a fan of Young Adult Paranormal/Fantasy, then I recommend this book. If you are a fan of JLA’s other books, then I would recommend this series, too. Be prepared for the series to put you through the wringer with your emotions. I know it put me through a lot.
I adore this series. I loved this ending so much. I adore JLA’s writing and I’m so excited to get to the Harbinger series again once the 3rd comes out!
Roth definitely made this series. His words, his actions, his everything. He was everything. I enjoyed this series a lot and never expected to devour fantasy books like I am. It was great to watch Layla come into her own and develop powers and evolve. Zayne was also more tolerable for me. I felt terrible for poor Sam, but at least he was “saved” in the end.
Ms. Armentrout absolutely blew me away with the last installment of her Dark Elements series!! It was hilarious, beautiful, action-packed, and full of love!!! Seriously, I only thought the second book was my favorite…it’s quickly been surpassed by Every Last Breath!
As always, I definitely do not want to give too much away. There is no way I want to ruin the magic for everyone else. I will say however, that this book has hands-down one of the most hilariously amazing scenes I have ever read…and believe me, I have read a ton! I will say that it involves someone partaking a bit too much and several empty beer cans. That’s all I’m giving you in that department…you’ll just have to find out the rest for yourself!
The story of Layla and crew had me sucked in from the very beginning. I laughed with them, cried with them, and threw my book down thinking “what are you doing?” Armentrout did not let me down as she wrapped up the story. I absolutely loved how everything played out. Yes, there are some things I wish would have happened differently, but if certain events did not happen, then our wonderful story would not have played out the way it did. We would not have been able to see some amazing character development happen, especially with my favorite demon!
Every Last Breath was one crazy emotional ride and I enjoyed every minute of it! Also, I appreciated how the story delved into how sometimes the “purest” souls are capable of the most evil or that those we may deem “evil” can be capable of some really compassionate actions. Moral of the story, do not judge a book by it’s cover! I cannot wait to get my hands on some more books by Ms. Armentrout!
This book gave me all the feels. This was an amazing ending too an amazing series. Layla & Roth are absolutely perfect together. This book had me laughing, teary-eyed and of course glued too me kindle. I’m definitely going too miss these characters.
So I loved it. Can’t help it. Roth was awesome in each and every book, except for when he was forced in Book 2 to be a jerk. Got to have angst, of course! I love Layla. She’s a teenager and I think some readers forget that when reading her. I don’t know a single person who at 17 was mature enough to know everything they wanted all the dang time when everything – including hormones – is so confusing. I did have to remind myself about that in book 2. Because I did love Zayne as a character, even if I was Team Roth all the way. I did love both of them a LOT.
So this one was epic and it left me very satisfied if a little sad about some of the events. Poor Zayne. I have NO sympathy for Abbot because you don’t try to kill someone you love, even IF they turn evil, as he thought Layla did. You just don’t.
Anyway, I’m thrilled to be trying out the Harbinger series next! Seriously, Zayne gets his love! I hope it will be epic and not a let down after this amazing series!

Review:
I just loved this book. I was waiting so long to find out who Layla choose. And I must say I’m really really excited about the story. Since I’m not sure I can guarantee a spoiler free review, don’t read this if you really don’t want to know. The first part of my review will be spoiler free, the second part, not so much. So be warned.
What is this book about:
This book continues right where stone cold touch ended. Layla, Roth and Zayne figured out who the lilin is. Well they didn’t really figured it out, the lilin showed it self. It turned out it is Sam. Well it looks like sam. So you can imagine what a shock this is for Layla.
On top of all the Lilin crap, layla has to make a choice. She either chooses Zayne, the man she loved and adored since her childhood or the sexy demon prince Roth, who accepted her for who she is and makes her feel like she shouldn’t be ashamed of herself.
We find out very soon who layla chooses, so we get to see their relationship blossom in the book. There’s also enough action, like in the previous books.
I hope this captured the essence of the story without spoiling to much. In the next part I will spoil the crap out of it so stop reading if you don’t want to know.
What did I love about this book:
I’m just so happy with Lyla’s choice. I’m team Roth since the beginning so I’m very happy that she chooses him. I think, like Layla said, that she could have been with Zayne, that they’d make it work but that it wouldn’t last long. I felt like Zayne started to express his love for her after another guy got in the picture and showed interest. I felt like he was a little to late and I feel like he never really accepted her. I know he tried and he thought he accepted her but his clan, family, his very own being just never really did, not for a 100%. I mean his clan taught her to be ashamed of herself, that she wasn’t good enough. Zayne was there for her yes but it’s just wouldn’t have worked in my opinion. And Roth, he just accepted her for who she is right away, he made her feel like she was worthy and that there was nothing wrong with her. He taught her that not everything is black and white and that there is more than what meets the eyes. He also trusted her and was always honest with her. And Roth gave up, and continues to sacrifice, everything for Layla. Not that Zayne wouldn’t have done that for her but Roth actually did it in my opinion. He is just perfect. Don’t get me wrong Zanye is a great guy but just not THE guy for Layla.
I loved that we got to experience Layla and Roth’s relationship. Roth kept surprising me. He was so sweet and undemon like. I also liked how Layla grew in this book. It truly felt like she accepted herself and got stronger. She really grew. I liked her in the first book, thought she was oke in the second (still liked her) but loved her in the last one.
Rating:
5 Amazing Stars
I loved this series. It is one if my favorites by Jennifer. It took me while to get back to this series and finish it up, but I’m so glad I did because Every Las Breath was everything I’d hoped it’d be.
I liked that Layla figured out early which guy she wanted to be with and while it was obvious who her choice should be and I squealed like a schoolgirl when she decided. Roth is hands down my favorite book boyfriend of any of Jennifer’s characters. I love his humor and how protective he was of Layla. He understood her in a way even Zayne didn’t. He gave her space, knew she could take care of herself and let her, and never underestimated her. I just loved them.
I will say that a good portion of this book was not spent looking for the Lilin, but this gets put on blast in an epic way. I liked seeing Layla, Roth, and the Warden’s working together though. Layla turned into a badass and it was great when she finds out exactly what she is. The ending was really good and I had no problems with the way it ended. I was very and satisfied if not a bit sad that it ended. But I love this series.
Excellent wrap up to the series, but after all the action in books 1-2 I couldn’t quite give it five stars. If you like paranormal romance this series is at the top of my recommendation list.
