With positive energy and faith, we increase our chances of realizing our imagined future and, if they are extremely strong, we can change the rules themselves, and the constraints defined by human constructs. Possible things, before they were realized, were impossible. Thanks to the distortion of the fabric of history and the involvement of others’ energy towards the shared vision of an imagined future, we become creators and architects of our destiny, of our reality.
Great book!
Classic rendition on the power of Man’s thought. I am a bit biased towards his idea of how sickly thoughts manifest through the body, that’s not applicable to health conditions that can either be congenital, acquired e.t.c. I do not think cancer patients or Diabetic patients brought the condition upon themselves through their thoughts. Asides from that, I found some of his arguments informative and thought provoking.
Here are some of the highlights :
1)A man’s mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must, and will, bring forth. If no useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless weed-seeds will fall therein, and will continue to produce their kind. Occupy your mind with valuable, positive, congenial thoughts
2)A man cannot directly choose his circumstances, but he can choose his thoughts, and so indirectly, yet surely, shape his circumstances.
3) think strongly, attempt fearlessly, and accomplish
masterfully. The will to do springs from the knowledge that we can do.
4)The greatest achievement was at first and for a time a dream. The oak sleeps in the acorn; the bird waits in the egg; and in the highest vision of the soul a waking angel stirs. Dreams are the seedlingof realities
5)Self-control is strength; Right Thought is mastery; Calmness is power. Say unto your heart, “Peace, be still!”
Stay positive!! Your dreams are Valid!!
“Speak what you want…Not what you’ve got” key lesson from book!
I honestly don’t see draws so many people to this book. I thought it was full of wise advice, but I only found convoluted (and outdated) writing devoid of actual subtance.
LeVar Pompey This book is a great read that speaks to encourage those of whom are in search of become successful to reach within and it will be made without.
As John Milton in Paradise Lost said, “The mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven.” Of course, Satan was saying that after being placed in Hell but there is some truth in the thought that what we think influences how we see our surroundings. Read any book on happiness and it boils down to the idea that we choose to be happy, regardless of what is going on around us. All that to say, I agreed with some of James Allen’s thoughts but on the whole I had a hard time with this book. In it, he says people are sickly because of sickly thoughts – tell that to the person diagnosed with cancer. He champions the idea of a prosperity gospel – if you think good thoughts, health and wealth will follow. That’s not necessarily true. Good people are sometimes poor, they sometimes suffer in ill health. I did like what he said about being a true man – “A man only begins to be a man when he ceases to whine and revile… he ceases to accuse others as the cause of his condition…”.
This book shaped me and made me a better Life.
A life changer if you are willing to look at yourself.
Each chapter addresses the challenges we face in becoming who we ought to be. We become what we are by applying true principles or denying them.
Highly recommend this book.
I’ve read it over and over and recommend you do the same.
Happy journey

I almost added “scary” to the categories into which I put this book, but it’s not a ghostly scary and I didn’t want to mislead anyone.
In fact, it’s a lot more scary than your regular ghouls, in that it proves the following: ‘A man in literally what he thinks, his character being the complete sum of all his thoughts.’
This means we can either sabotage ourselves or fulfill our potential to ‘build heavenly mansions of joy and strength and peace’ through developing a ‘noble and Godlike character.’
This book outlines how ‘man is made or unmade by himself’ and how to avoid the pitfalls that wrong thinking produces.
It is a short but powerful treatise that bears frequent reading!
