Eighteen-year-old Emily Lawrence believed that her life was simple and that the most difficult thing she would face in her life would be to convince her cousin and companion, Rosalind, to have more courage. Her life takes on complications when Mr. Adrian Williams moves into the neighboring estate. Emily’s father forbids her from having anything to do with the man, but when an unexpected illness … illness throws her into Mr. Williams company, Emily finds that obeying her father is more difficult than she imagined.
Emily struggles to understand why her father is so insistent on the matter. What happened eight years ago, when the Williams left the estate? Is it a coincidence that Emily’s mother died at the same time?

Emily was expected to marry her cousin and Rosalind was expected to have no prospects. At least that is what their family kept telling them. Emily was determined to have a different future for both and her cousin Rosalind. Then Adrian Williams moves in next door and Emily struggles to find out why she is forbidden to talk to him. Things heat up as Emily’s father becomes ill and is confined to the Williams estate.
What a great period romance filled with wonderful characters and a great setting. This is actually a love story of two couples who have to brave societal constraints, family disapproval, and their own sense of honour in order to find happiness. The characters are amazing, full of personality and a willingness to fight for what they want. The characters grow and develop a greater sense of self. The storyline is expertly written and is easy to read but difficult to put down. I enjoyed this book and if you like historical romances I think you will too.

Sweet story, Regency
by MoonGarden
I have to be honest, I read this book primarily because of the cover. It wouldn’t have mattered much what the blurb was, that concert was so pretty I just HAD to read the story!
So the story: I liked it. The family is terrible, but the main characters are likable. The writing could be improved. I understand I read an ARC, so I hope there was a thorough edit after I got my copy. Throw a little editing polish on it and this will be a great little book.

Emily Lawrence at the age of 18 believed nothing was as good as a pleasant book. She was in the library reading when her cousin Rosalind came in and grabbed her book and then told her that her father wanted to see her and it was up to her to finish the arrangements for their aunt’s visit. Emily was going to London with her aunt and Rosalind as far as Emily was concerned was going with her. Roslyn is in a sad complacent gloom over the death of her parents five years ago, she blamed it on the rainy weather they were having. Emily went to see her father who had all sorts of account ledgers in front of him and she offered to come back later if she was disturbing him, he declared she was a welcome distraction and he merely wanted to know if everything was ready for her aunt’s visit he didn’t want his sister-in-law to think that Emily couldn’t handle the role of hostess. The next day she went to the cemetery to put flowers on her mother’s grave and wondered why her mother had been buried so far from the rest of the Lawrence family her mother’s grave was in the farthest corner of the graveyard. Walking back from the cemetery they saw Waverly Place and Roslyn asked if she knew the owners she said no they had moved away when she was young and her father would not speak of them. When they got back to the house they were called in immediately because her aunt Lawrence had arrived. Her aunt Lawrence had brought her pug with her and Roslyn had walked the little dog both her and Emily hated the little dog. Emily had already set up for a card party after dinner on Friday she had written to her mother’s parents after her mother had died and never received an answer. As they were walking one day she climbed onto the first row of the fence and looked over towards Waverly Place where she saw workers working she told Rosalind told her to get off the fence she picked a Greenleaf to show Roslyn that that’s a color that there aunt Lawrence should wear instead of that putrid green that she was wearing and she fell off the fence she asked Roslyn to help her up and then a sound of blood made her pause and turn and there was a tall black hair gentlemen who had vaulted the fence with his white horse on the other side and he helped Emily up. He introduced himself as Adrian Williams the owner of Waverly Pl., Emily started asking him questions which she was not answering and Emily was getting frustrated. If you want to know what happened to Emily’s mother and between the Williams and the Lawrence, you’ll have to read the book. It is a quick and easy read and a good book…
This is dramatic, heartwarming and entertaining. Emily is getting ready to have a short introduction to London before she has her first season the following year. Rosalind is her orphaned cousin who has lived with her and her father, and been Emily’s companion, for the last five years. Mr. Williams owns the estate next to Emily’s, Lord Evan is Mr. Williams’ best friend. Emily is stubborn but polite no matter how rude other people are, until she’s had enough of people acting as if Rosalind was a nobody, and here other cousin, Percival, keeps harassing her to accept his marriage proposal. Emily has never liked Percy, and he’s never been anything but rude and condescending to her. When the girls are out walking one day they meet Mr. Williams and Lord Evan. When Emily’s father finds out he forbids her to have anything to do with him, but won’t tell her why, which just makes her rebellious. When her father collapses on Mr. Williams’ property, she insists on caring for him as long as he’s at Will’s home. While there Rosalind and Lord Evan spend time together, and Emily gets to know Will. Emily’s aunt and father push her to accept Percy, but Emily is interested in Will. With a few twists to the story the truth of the past comes out, which changes everything. I love the fact that the nobody girl brilliantly out does what everyone expects.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. This is my honest and voluntary opinion of it.
This is a story of two couples Emily Lawrence and Mr. Adrian Williams and Emily’s cousin and companion, Rosalind and Lord Evan. What snobs the two Aunts where and Sir Percival was a real pain. There is a mystery of Emily’s Mother’s death. I enjoyed reading this story. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a well written book with an interesting plot and characters that seemed real. Family dynamics, jealousy, honor, friendship, and love were some of the underlying themes in this story with strong women and a couple of highly enticing guys next door.
