Kennedy Monroe lost her boyfriend to her best friend. Or maybe her best friend to her boyfriend. It didn’t matter. All she had left was her job, and she’d be damned if she was going to lose that too. So when her boss asks her for a favor, she’s not about to say no.Except, she didn’t know the favor included pretending to be his girlfriend in front of his parents.Hawk Jefferson was tired of his … was tired of his parents constantly trying to marry him off to their rich friends’ daughters. He was nearly forty years old, and he was more than happy to spend the rest of his life as a bachelor. The last thing he wanted was a wife and a bunch of babies. In order to keep them off his back, he told them he’d been dating his assistant for the last six months. So, when they decided to take a last-minute trip to spend the weekend with him and his girlfriend, Hawk had to take drastic measures.
Except, he never anticipated he’d fall in love, much less want to settle down and give his parents the grandchild they’ve always wanted.
Only, getting Kennedy on board with that plan seems to be harder than anticipated.

A must-read new series by Ms. Talty! Kennedy Monroe has just found her lover and best friend in bed together. They didn’t mean for her to find out this was way…he was going to tell her later, at dinner. Really??? All three of them work at the Hawk Jefferson Talent Agency where Kennedy is Hawk’s assistant. Hawk is not into relationships and moves on as soon as the woman starts to hear wedding bells. To keep them off his back, he has told his parents that he is dating Kennedy and when they decide to spend the weekend, Kennedy agrees to pose as his girlfriend. This leads to interesting and laugh out loud incidents with his parents, her parents and siblings, his former love interests and the media. What will Hawk do when he realizes, after all, that Kennedy could be “the one”? An amusing and lovely romance by one of the best! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author. (by paytonpuppy)
I loved this book. HOT romance amid what started as a lie. Am thoroughly enjoying Jen Talty’s books!
This book opens with Kennedy Monroe finding her boyfriend John in bed with her bestfriend Tallulah. This after she’s sublet her apartment as they were planning on her moving in with him. Angry is not the word for her feelings at the moment.
Deciding she could use a drink as she gets drenched walking in the rain, she stumbles on Thirsty’s a small piano bar. Perfect since she didn’t think she’d know anyone and could drown her sorrows and take an Uber home.
Hawk Jefferson has been frequenting Thirsty’s since he started representing the rich and famous. It was a place he could relax and not worry about being seen and annoyed by up and coming wannabees. The last person he expected to see wander in is his assistant Kennedy.
They talk about her breakup and his as she gets very drunk. Hawk gets her home safe and sound but that’s just the beginning. You see he sort of told his parents he was dating his assistant and now they’re coming to town. He convinces Kennedy to play along, but things get a bit out of hand before that comes to pass.
Another ex, Heather comes out with a damning accusation against him and damage control is needed, all this as he runs into an old college buddy Rusty and his wife Lilly at Thirsty’s. Little does he know that Rusty, while helping, is going to cause quite the uproar for both him and Kennedy.
A story breaks about him and Kennedy with a picture of them leaving Thirsty’s the next morning. Rusty who’s now on that show wants them to come on the show and help stop the gossip mill before things get worse.
Kennedy proved in that interview she could handle anything the press throws at her and had me laughing as much as Hawk and Rusty did at the way she turned things around.
In spite of the fact this was supposed to be pretend, things heat up for Hawk and Kennedy in more than one way. I really loved this romantic journey. The fact that Kennedy’s family has the Monroe name wrapped up with several JFK versions is hysterical and so much fun.
Now I need to read the second book to finish catching up.
A great start to a new series. Kennedy is a strong character and takes the high road when her boyfriend and best friend are caught in bed. To make things worse, she works with both of them. Kennedy is the one everyone relies on at work including her boss Hawk. Hawk needs a favor so his parents will back off wanting him to find someone special so he fibs saying Kennedy is his girlfriend. Then the fib grows and becomes public because he is well known in the news for his serial dating. The story is entertaining and funny.
Fake relationship stories are kind of my Kryptonite. There’s just something so compelling about all the secrecy and angsty drama. You know that no matter how hard they’re trying not to, they’re still going to end up ridiculously in love. There’s so much chemistry between Kennedy and Hawk that it fairly crackles off the page. Since I’m a sucker for anything behind-the-scenes of the entertainment industry, this story fed my guilty pleasure addiction. Can I just say, that ending was the cutest thing ever! And considering I’ve read several books recently with extra cute endings, that’s really saying something. I can’t wait to read more about the rest of the Monroe clan.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author.
The Monroe’s are a great family all named after someone from the Kennedy family due to their parents names which cause the obsession with the names and as being the oldest Kennedy gets the title of well Kennedy. She is smart and quick witted and has her finger on the pulse so is the perfect assistant to her boss Hawk Jefferson, after both a betrayed by their partners things start to change and boy do we get to go on a wild ride after what goes from a favour to something so much more that both had tried to sidestep since the bourbon incident. This most certainly is a book I would re read again especially just before the next book comes out.
