This is book two in the series. I would recommend reading book one, first. I haven’t and it took me a few chapters to figure out what was going on but from there it was action packed!
Green writes some really good characters, who are strong and determined. Even the women aren’t weak and frail. They go after it!
Full of cowboys, horses, danger, adventure, and sweet romance, this was a great read and I recommend it if you enjoy historical fiction based in the west.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
Ranger to the Rescue continues The Texas Ranger series. I loved the first book and I believe I enjoyed this one even more. I am giving it five stars.
Although I was not familiar with its author, Ranger to the Rescue seemed to be the type of book I would enjoy so I took a chance and agreed to review it. It did not take very long after I began reading to decide that I had indeed made a good choice. A historical western romance, the characters and plot were perfect and I enjoyed my reading experience.
Heroine Amelia was smart, brave, and determined to make her way in a man’s world of journalism. Always eager to get a scoop, she was not always as careful as she should have been and frequently found herself in a bit of trouble. Attorney Evan was quite happy to settle into his new office, especially after barely escaping a noose due to mistaken identity in the previous novel of the Texas Ranger series. He and Amelia had settled into a routine friendship but it didn’t take long before they realized that there might just be more to the friendship than they first thought. However, circumstances arose that put their relationship to the test and their lives at risk.
The plot of Ranger to the Rescue moved along at a steady pace and was filled with ample danger, action, suspense, and romance to keep most readers happily turning the pages. A great story of second chances and dependence on the Lord, this book more than met my expectations. I hope to find time to read the first book of this series so I can learn more about Evan, his sister, and her husband.

What I think you should know:
Ranger to the Rescue is the second book in The Texas Rangers series by Renae Brumbaugh Green. This book can be a standalone, however it does contain many of the same characters as the first book and will give you spoilers if you have not read the first book in the series. It is a historical fiction set in Houston, Texas 1881.
What you might need to know:
Amelia lost her fiance in the line of duty prior to this book.
What I think about this book:
For me this was a quick read, it checks tons of boxes: historical fiction, spunky female lead, strong male lead and characters who are stubborn but drawn to each other. I will admit I have been a sucker for anything Texas Ranger since I was a little girl watching Walker. This was a fun story for me to read. Amelia is ahead of her time and determined, Evan is just as determined to be a good lawyer and find the truth for his clients. I enjoyed the interaction between these two. Green did a good job of keeping the book moving and interesting while also allowing the story to progress naturally. I look forward to the next book in the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
It would probably be best to read the first book in this series to really understand some of the comments made but you can just read this one and still enjoy it. I liked the characters of Amelia and Evan. The romance was cute and there was a little intrigue with some action. It was fun to read about Texas Rangers and a female reporter. I received a copy of this book from Celebratelit for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.
Ranger to the Rescue
I enjoyed Ranger to the Rescue very much. Amelia is a newspaper reporter determined to get her story. Evan becomes an temporary ranger. Amelia gets kidnapped, will Evan be able to save her?
I enjoyed the characters in this book. Amelia didn’t want to be involved with a ranger because of the danger. Amelia puts herself in danger though. Amelia was such an enjoyable character.
I love reading historical books and this was a good one.
I received a complimentary copy of the book from Celebrate Lit. This book review is my own opinion.
3.5 stars
Ranger to the Rescue is a nice follow-up to the characters we first met in Lone Star Ranger – particularly if you wanted to spend more time with Evan and Amelia.
Amelia is a spitfire of a heroine – the epitome of ‘though she be but little she is fierce’. Her dogged pursuit of a front page story at first can seem to be at war with her softer side. In actuality, though, they both fit together beautifully in a personality that is unique to Amelia and enables her to fight when needed and cry when needed. Her loyalty to those she loves is one of the reasons I enjoy her character – and her wit is another.
Evan has been through a lot, poor guy. Accused in Lone Star Ranger of being a notorious outlaw and nearly hanged for it, he’s finally settling in to his new law office in Houston and to his friendship with Amelia. All the while he remains close to his newlywed sister Elizabeth – who is a typical little sister to her big brother, especially when it comes to his love life. I enjoyed watching the sibling aspect to their relationship, reminding me of my own friendship with my brother. (And can I just say that I love Elizabeth’s strength when it counts?)
The story starts out at a fairly gentle pace, but it ramps up at the halfway mark and draws on every bit of strength that Amelia, Evan, and Elizabeth have between them to survive. I loved watching each one really come into their own. We’ve seen Elizabeth’s inner survival skills already in book 1 but we really get to see Evan and Amelia shine in this book. Their progression from good friends to falling in love was also sweet to watch – and provided a few chuckles along the way too. However, I would have liked at least one kiss between them and felt a bit cheated that we didn’t get one.
Bottom Line: Ranger to the Rescue is a sweet story with engaging characters and some harrowing moments that may have you forgetting to breathe. Not from the romance, which is very gentle, but the danger they find themselves in. Readers of Lone Star Ranger will enjoy the chance to get reacquainted with these characters, and while book 2 can be read as a stand-alone it’s probably best to read them in order to avoid any lingering confusion. A relatively short, quick read, it’s a nice choice when you want something light and smile-inducing.

Ranger to the Rescue is the second in Renae Brumbaugh Green’s Texas Ranger series. Written in a style similar to the first, this book tells the story of Evan Covington, new lawyer setting up his practice in Texas, and Amelia Cooper, a woman reporter in the man’s world of newspapers. Someone is burning fishing boats, and both Amelia and Evan are on the case, however on opposing sides. There’s something “fishy” going around, the town seems determined to blame one scapegoat, but who truly is the guilty party? As Amelia investigates, she continually finds herself in dangerous situations, frustrating Evan, who wants to protect her, even court her. Despite Evan’s efforts and intentions, he angers and offends her at every turn, as Amelia tries to prove not only who is causing the problems in town, but also her worth as a woman reporter.
Renae Brumbaugh Green’s writing style makes for quick reading, and is great for teenage & young adult readers. I appreciate her atypical characters and strong women pioneering in new careers.
*I received a copy of this book in return for my honest review.
It’s time to saddle up your horses and dust off your boots as the author takes us to Houston, Texas in 1881. I have to say I enjoyed the setting because well it’s my home town. There is nothing better than reading an historical book set in the town you grew up in. This is the second book in the series and it has been a joy to read. The story is an adventure in trusting God and letting go of fear.
I can understand why Amelia is not fond of thinking of a lawman as someone she would court. After her loss she doesn’t think her heart could handle worrying about the man she loves working a dangerous job. It did make me think of the first responders, police officers, health care workers and fireman who are out there everyday putting their lives on the line. Amelia has such a sweet spirit around her, but she still can’t trust God enough to let her heart fall for another Ranger. I did like her job as a news reporter and how she liked to snoop around getting leads .
Evan is someone I would like to know. He is a good and honest man. His job as a lawyer takes him to visit people who he has to prove their innocence. There is a little side story in the book where Amelia and Evan work together to solve a mystery. This is where the two start to have deeper feelings for each other. I loved how they disagreed at times but always seemed to find their way back to each other.
The big plot in the book involves outlaws, Evan’s sister, brother-in-law and Evan as danger surrounds them. Amelia is beside herself thinking Evan would consider being a Ranger even for a short period of time. I loved this part of the story because it felt like I had traveled back in time where outlaws were ruthless and had no feelings for others. The danger intensifies when two people close to Evan are in a situation that could cost them their lives. The emotions run deep in this story and I loved how the author explored how important it is to trust God in all situations. I am loving this series and can’t wait for the next book to come out.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Having read the first book in this series, I was looking forward to revisiting the characters. I have to say this story did not disappoint. With everything from a man wrongly accused of a courtship that had a hard time getting started to kidnapping and an alligator and snakes, this book packs a lot in the pages.
But my favorite part of this book is that it is a Christian story. Working as a news reporter suits Amelia Cooper and she does what she needs to in order to get her story. But I wanted her to have more than her job. I wanted her to have love. Elizabeth, Evan Covington’s sister, found true love in the first book and now she wants the same for her brother. Truly, this book is worth reading. So check it out for yourself.
I received a copy of this book for my fair and honest review.
This is the first book that I have read by Renae and I will be reading more of her books! Once I started reading it, I didn’t want to stop. Was a nice clean romance with a little bit of mystery/adventure to it.
I enjoyed this book tremendously! The characters were well developed and completely believable, especially in the situations they found themselves in! Evan was a lawyer in Houston, building up his new law practice. Amelia is a reporter for the daily newspaper who writes the “society column” but wants to write front page news. Women just didn’t do that in those days though. She and Even are attracted to each other but feel they need to focus on their jobs, until they decide that they really can’t live without each other so begin to court. However, Amelia will NOT be with another lawman because her former fiancé died who was a lawman! Thankfully, Evan will never do that….until he’s appointed to be a temporary Texas Ranger! And wouldn’t you know, Amelia and Evan’s sister get kidnapped! That whole experience was very interesting and fun to read. Lots of danger.. let’s just say alligators and snakes and very mean criminals! You definitely need to read this book!
