I am loving this series four debutantes who caused a scandal when they were thrown out of the ladies academy they were attending form a group to find themselves husbands, but only rakes will do and this time Olivia de Vere might just about find her hero a scared soldier who is also known as a rake, this was a story that was hard to put down.
Olivia is an orphaned heiress and is kept practically a prisoner of her guardian her uncle, and with her cruel cousin wanting to marry her she is very determined to get what she wants and that is getting to know her neighbour, a Scottish Marquess. Her friends have offered advice on how to get to know him, and with the help of a cat Olivia finally meets her Marquess in rather unorthodox circumstances. The next meeting sees her offering to help with a problem but holding onto secrets about who she is.
Hamish MacQueen, Lord Sleat is scared on the inside and out some from fighting in the war against Napoleon and some that goes back a long way, he is a rake and has no intention of ever marrying he has a younger brother who can have the title. When a young child is abandoned on his doorstep with a note saying she is his child Hamish is not convinced but he needs to get back home to his family and fast, he needs a nursemaid for the little girl and his beautiful neighbour arrives at the right time and they are soon travelling many miles to his castle.
The journey draws them closer and when danger arrives just over the border into Scotland, Olivia finally tells Hamish the truth about herself and he maybe a rake but he is a gentleman and very caring and he steps up to save Olivia, it is not long before they are losing their hearts but Hamish is so stubborn about not loving anyone. I loved Olivia and the never give up attitude she has to win her man, she is beautiful inside and out and Hamish wow what a hero gorgeous caring loving and to see him fall so in love well there were lots of happy smiles. Thank you MS Bennett for another keeper and I am now very much looking forward to Charlie’s story.
Need inspiration? Read this book. Our Heroine Olivia lost her parents in a terrible carriage accident. As an orphan her father’s brother became her guardian. She lived with him, his wife and two daughters. Because Olivia had a stutter when she spoke, they treated her terribly. She was unloved and emotionally mistreated. And yet she maintained a heart full of love for her true friends. She grew up very conscious of her stutter and the disdain her family showed her. She withdrew within herself to protect her sensitive heart. Her aunt and uncle wanted her to marry their son and keep her wealth, she was an heiress, in the family. But the son was a cruel young man. When Olivia found him forging her uncle’s signature to withdraw money from her inheritance he physically and emotionally threatened her. She had to leave. She had to get away. Luckily, she had met the man she adored from afar Lord Hamish and finagled a situation in his household under a false name. Hamish is a wonderful man and would give the shirt off his back to those he loved. However, he suffered from PTSD and that put a stop to any permanent relationship. He feared his nightmares would cause harm to anyone around him. I loved the way the author Amy Rose Bennett wrote about Olivia’s and Hamish’s afflictions. She wrote with compassion and expressed understanding giving the reader much to consider and identify with. This is such a moving story that you cannot help but love Olivia’s and Hamish’s characters. This story is moderately paced, is a page turner and is well written. Each segment, each new scene, each new encounter segued smoothly from one to another. There were no stop gaps nor confusion as to what was going on. Do not pass this up. This is a must read and I highly recommend it.
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Can this series get any better? Amy Rose Bennett wows me again with this delightful, yet heart touching story of an unlikely pair that are perfect together to help mend each other.
This is Olivia’s story, who introduced previously and Hamish McQueen’s who is the quintessential scarred hero inside and out. My very favorite storyline, because I love to see them made whole again.
Did I say Hamish is a Scot? and oh yes handsome and strong? A rescuer of maidens stuck on a wall they are trying to climb over? Oh yes and a Scot? The object of Olivia’s girlish dreams and swoon worthy!
When Olivia is in a fix because she is being forced to wed her disgusting cousin, a solution presents itself. Hamish has been left a young girl on his doorstep with a letter claiming she is his. But he has to get to his estate in Scotland and see about his sister. So Olivia goes with him to care for the child.
Their journey is not an easy one, but both of them begin to find their strengths and truths as they try to find their way.
Loved every word!
Amy Rose Bennett adds another exciting adventure full of romance to her Disreputable Debutantes series with How to Catch a Sinful Marquess!
Olivia and Hamish’s story was one of overcoming obstacles, both self-imposed and ones they faced from outside sources, but even while there was some faltering these two forged on and recognized strengths in each other that others, including themselves, overlooked. This was an interesting story where insecurities were juxtaposed against strengths and events of the past still carried weight in her characters lives. There was a strong attraction between the leads in this work that was translated well by this author and kept their interactions full of pent-up tension and unfulfilled desire, for a slow simmer. The thoughtfulness displayed between Olivia and Hamish was the kind to not only captivate each other but this author’s audience as well. A wide spectrum of secondary characters complimented this work as they added drama and adventure for some memorable contributions to this story.
Ms. Bennett is not one for glossing over some of history’s less pleasant aspects in her works nor does she skirt around them in her character portrayals, making for intense stories. She offsets her harsh realistic inclusions with lots of action, romance and sweet interludes. This author’s paralleling scenes and sentiments from classic literary works such as Northanger Abbey, Frankenstein and The Mysteries of Udolfo, books popular at the time her story took place, was a highly entertaining tribute to Gothic fiction and was deftly done. Amy Rose Bennett’s How to Catch a Sinful Marquess brings another charming and fun debutante to her readers!

How to Catch a Sinful Marquess (The Disreputable by Amy Rose Bennett is a wonderful addition to this delightful Regency series. It can be read as a stand alone.
Take a journey with Olivia de Vere, aka Lavinia Morland, an orphaned heiress and Hamish MacQueen, Lord Sleat battle-scarred in many ways, into their world of secrets, scars, a slow burn Romance, and finding their love.
Well written and well crafted. The characters are charming and the storyline is unpredictable, with flawed characters, and is emotionally charged.
A sexy Historical romance that will capture your heart. A delightful story.

After being expelled from finishing school along with her friends, orphaned heiress Olivia de Vere returned to live with her aunt, uncle and cousins. Olivia’s relatives are awful to her, they make her life miserable, spend her money and mock her stammering speech. In an effort to keep her money, they are pushing her to marry her cousin Felix. She wants nothing to do with Felix, especially after a confrontation about embezzled funds leads to heinous threats.
Hamish MacQueen, Marquess of Sleat, wounded war hero and former rakehell, has a problem, a little girl has been dropped on his doorstep with a note declaring her his child and if that is not enough, he needs to get home to Skye to help his sister. In an effort to escape Felix, Olivia offers to play nurse to young Tilda. And off they go, in true savior fashion, Hamish marries Olivia and tells her that he will get her inheritance and then they will divorce and she will be rich and able to re-marry (OK – because divorce is so easy to obtain and carries no stigma in 1818). She agrees, but wants a real marriage – she has long admired and secretly lusted after Hamish. But Hamish refuses – he has nightmares and did on ONE occasion hurt someone while dreaming, so he cannot subject her to that. In addition, he also believes that due to his father’s behavior, he should not father children for fear he may be like him. But Olivia isn’t willing to give up and finally confesses all to her friends, who are happy to offer suggestions – number one – seduce him.
This book was ok, I liked it, but didn’t love it. The writing is good and it is paced well, but Hamish was a bit of martyr and his martyrdom dragged on to almost the very end of the book, then after chapters and chapters of refusal, he just cedes – it felt rushed and wrong, he did however manage to deliver an exceptionally romantic declaration of love. Then there was her family, they steal from her, treat her like a burden, are mean and mocking, yet she not only forgives them, she helps them – with a warning that she will not tolerate being taken advantage of (WTH?). All in all, it was an ok read, I don’t think I would read it again, but I don’t regret reading it. This is the third book in the series, but it could easily be read as a standalone title.

My review :
Will his stubbornness doom their romance …
Each one of these ruined debutantes romance is a delight to read.
Olivia’s is in some way a retelling of the Cinderella fairytale but also a story of coming of age and finding one’s voice for young woman who lets her family treat her like a doormat and emptying her coffers until she decides enough is enough.
She has bent her head all her life because of her stammer, in some way abused because of it, too cowed to even try to voice her thoughts, it leaves her paralyzed to express herself when she knows she will be belittled.
At time I was upset at her inability to answer, but I am not in her position, my speech is not impeded, while she struggles to even expel one word correctly.
Hamish is a kind man misguided by past events’ aftermaths, he refuses to face that the circumstances of his past actions were not of his doing. He is honorable and acts only with the welfare of everyone in heart.
But how stubborn he is.
Their romance is one charming slow-burn long journey, these very lovable characters have many ups and downs during the course to their HEA as they must learn to trust one another with their many secrets and scars and while Olivia has to grow a lot, she must also fight Hamish’s demons but her own too.
4.5 stars

Olivia’s story at last & I must say it didn’t disappoint. This is the third book in the series & whilst it could be read on its own I always have to start a series at the beginning. I loved Olivia & Hamish, she’s loving & giving & he’s a dour Scot. Due to circumstances he offers Olivia a marriage of convenience until she comes into her inheritance when she’s twenty five, Olivia agrees but works hard to make it a real marriage. I was drawn in from the start & loved their rocky road to a HEA, my only quibble was that the villains didn’t get their comeuppance & I deliberated dropping my review to four stars but as I loved everything else, I decided to give 4.5 Stars rounded up
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Starring Olivia de Vere and Hamish MacQueen, Marquess of Sleat
Scarred hero… a heroine in disguise… a road trip… marriage of convenience. You want it? This book has got it all!!
Hamish is a wonderful moody, broody hero who had a lot of emotional turmoil he had to workout. Olivia is the perfect heroine for him coz she was so patient and pushed and pushed until all of his protective walls came down.
This is a slow burn story done right! By the time Olivia and Hamish got together I shouted “hallelujah “ then fanned myself. These two are absolutely yummilicious and I totally enjoyed every second of their HEA.
This is another wonderful story by the amazing Amy Rose Bennett. Can’t wait to read the other stories in this series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily review it and the comments are 100% my own.
My star system: 4 1/2 stars
Book was great. Loved the characters. Gave me the feels and aaaaaaalmost made me cry in some parts.
Hamish MacQueen, Lord Sleat, is a battle scared hero who suffers from more than just his physical scars. He keeps to himself fearing his nightmares are a danger to anyone who gets close to him. Having a toddler dumped on his doorstep with a note claiming that Hamish is the father is just one issue that he’s dealing with. Olivia de Vere has been admiring her neighbor Hamish for months and when the opportunity arises for her to escape her evil cousin, she agrees to accompany Hamish to his seat in Scotland to deal with a family matter and to act as a nursemaid for the child. What neither of them expected is the strong attraction growing between them, but will Hamish let go of his doubts and embrace Olivia’s growing affection?
I really liked Olivia. Her transformation from a shy and timid young woman to become more self-confident and value her own worth was delightful. Her quiet and comforting presence for Hamish transforms the rugged Highlander who finally realizes that he is deserving of love. The twists and turns in the book kept me turning the pages quickly to find out how everything would be resolved. All in all this was a delightful story.
I voluntarily read the advanced reader copy and all opinions are my own.
Emotionally charged and sexy historical Romance that will steal your heart! 6 stars
I adored Amy Rose Bennett’s third novel ‘How to Catch a Sinful Marquess’ starring two lovable characters Olivia De Vere and Hamish McQueen! Flawed characters fascinate me! Hamish is a shattered man but Olivia is always at his side! They are meant for each other, each in their own way! It’s a stunning story filled with tenderness, passion and intrigue, one that you won’t forget! Amy Rose Bennett will sweep you again to her great world building set during the Regency era. If I could have given it 10 stars, I would have! Ms. Bennett has outdone herself! It’s one of her best novel yet! She truly never disappoints me!
Even if it’s got one or two steamy sex scenes, they are emotionally charged! You’ll feel the full force of their emotions in the midst of their love scenes. A fierce attraction between Olivia and Hamish will send sparks fly all over!
After the tragic death of her parents, Olivia became an orphan heiress under the guardianship of her uncle and aunt who constantly make fun of her as she stutters when she is nervous and their son wants to marry her only for her fortune. So she decides to run away! But where? And how, she has no money or friends available to help her escape. That’s when destiny comes along to change the course of her life. Meanwhile, her gorgeous neighbor Hamish, Lord Sleat meets her by accident and offers her a job as a nursemaid to help him with a young child named Tilda. Assuming a secret identity, she accepts his proposal. All three embark on a wild journey to the Isle of Skye. Will their marriage of convenience become one of passion? Will Olivia trust Hamish enough to tell him her secret? Will Hamish give himself a chance to love the passionate Olivia? Will Hamish regain his self-confidence with her stubbornness to never let him go?
“I received a complimentary copy of this book from Berkley Publishing Group and NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.”
A delightful and engaging regency romance. I loved every page of Olivia and Hamish’s journey of love.
How to Catch a Sinful Marquess is the third in The Disreputable Debutantes series but can be read as a stand alone story. This is a story of not allowing the past or bad treatment of others determine your own self worth. Olivia was orphaned at a young age when her parents were killed in a carriage accident, she stutters when she is upset and tries to speak, and she is trying to avoid marriage to her vicious cousin that her uncle is trying to force on her in order to keep her vast wealth in the family. Hamish grew up with a tyrant of a father, was injured in the Battle of Waterloo, suffers from violent nightmares, and has vowed to never marry and have children. Hamish is also a rescuer, in which he is always helping those in need. When he spies his young, beautiful neighbor on their adjoining fence, he goes to her aid in rescuing her friend’s cat. This begins their wonderful adventure which involves a mystery surrounding the parentage of a young child left on Hamish’s doorstep, a mad dash to the Isle of Skye to prevent a marriage, and what starts as a marriage of convenience between Olivia and Hamish to prevent her cousin from forcing her into marriage. This is a wonderfully written story that entertains and delights with engaging characters and adventures.
An heiress, Olivia, runs away from her scheming cousin, Felix, who wants to marry her for her money. She joins her neighbor, Hamish, who needs a nanny to help him bring a child on the long trip back home to Scotland. She plans to hide out there till she reaches her majority and can get her money. They both come to see the benefit of staying together.
HOW TO CATCH A SINFUL MARQUESS by Amy Rose Bennett is book Three in The Disreputable Debutantes Series. I have read the previous books which did add to my enjoyment of this one, but I did feel this could be a standalone book. This is the story of Hamish MacQueen, Lord Sleat and Olivia de Vere. Hamish is a war worn man who find himself with a child that was left to him claiming the child was his. This leads Hamish in need of a nurse to help care for the child which he finds in Olivia. Olivia who lost her parents and now is being forced to live with her aunt and uncle who are not very kind to her at all. They even make fun of her speaking because sometimes when she is nervous she stutters. Then their is their son who is also very awful but he wants to marry her for her money. Feeling that no one will really want her for her she takes on the identity of the governess/nurse to help her neighbor. This of course puts them working closely together to help the child which leads them to start have stronger feelings towards each other. This was a wonderful story, so I would recommend this book and this author’s writing. Loved it.
A solid historical romance. Olivia de Vere is in a bad situation. She is waiting to come of age and inherit a large fortune and is forced to live with relatives. She runs away when a opportunity comes to accompany the attractive Scottish neighbor, Lord Sleat, as a nursemaid for the abandoned girl he finds on his doorstep. On the way to the Island of Skye a relationship builds, but Hamish, Lord Sleat, has a damaged past and feels he doesn’t deserve her. A temporary marriage ensues in which Olivia is determined to make permanent.
I really liked all of the characters, including Hamish’s mother and sister. Hamish was quite a noble protector and very hard on himself. My one stumbling block was that the ending was abrupt and the conflict was too easily resolved. If the author really makes the reader believe in the conflict then the resolution must be proportionately believable. This one missed the mark somewhat. Still, an enjoyable read.

4.5 stars rounded up.
As an orphaned heiress with a ruined reputation, Olivia de Vere is forced to rely on the magnanimity of her remaining aunt and uncle. She longs for a love match, but that seems increasingly unlikely, especially given her grasping family’s determination to force her into marrying her debauched cousin, Felix to keep her fortune in the family. Essentially a prisoner in a townhouse paid for with her own funds, Olivia can’t help but admire her handsome neighbor, a Scottish marquess, from afar.
Lord Hamish MacQueen, the Marquess of Sleat, carries scars from more than just Waterloo. He faced many harrowing situations, even before the war, but none that prepared him for having a young girl abandoned on his doorstep with a note claiming her to be his child. When his pretty neighbor offers to act as nursemaid for wee Tilda on the long journey to the Isle of Skye, Hamish accepts, despite his suspicions that she has personal reasons for wanting to leave England.
Despite his efforts to fight it, a fierce attraction arises between Olivia and Hamish, as does his need to protect her from her greedy family. But with so much threatening to keep them apart, including Hamish’s need to keep Olivia safe, even from himself, their future together is far from assured.
This book was quite the slow burn, but it was so sweet and emotional, and the buildup of tension so strong, that I didn’t mind. Hamish had several deep-seated issues tormenting him and Olivia was just what he needed to make him start believing in his own worth. I loved Olivia’s determination in the face of Hamish’s stubbornness. If you feel like reading a bit of Beauty and the Beast meets Cinderella, this is a good choice. I would’ve liked a bit more comeuppance for Olivia’s hateful family, but overall, this was well-plotted, the characters were likable, and I especially loved seeing Hamish’s protectiveness coming out in the end. It was lovely watching Olivia and Hamish grow more and more solid in their relationship and I look forward to Charlie’s story now.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Series: The Disreputable Debutantes
Publication Date: 8/25/20
Number of Pages: 320
My favorite book of the series so far! I absolutely loved both Olivia and Hamish in this beauty and the beast tale. She is sweet, giving, and has a heart as wide as all England. He is dour, cantankerous, standoffish, and holds himself away from others. The story is well written, well-plotted, and the pacing is excellent. A thoroughly enjoyable read.
We’ve learned of orphaned Olivia de Vere’s trials with her misbegotten uncle and his family over the previous two books. The only bright spot in her existence is her time she manages to steal with her friends Charlie, Sophie (How to Catch a Wicked Viscount), and Arabella (How to Catch an Errant Earl). They don’t ridicule her because of her stammer – they just love her for who she is.
Things are getting very tense at the de Vere household. Olivia’s twenty-first birthday is rapidly approaching and her guardians – her aunt and uncle – are pressuring her more and more to marry their son Felix to keep her fortune within the family. They constantly denigrate her and assure that she knows she isn’t good enough to receive any other offers. Felix is a cruel, mean-spirited, profligate who taunts Olivia at every turn. When she discovers that Felix has been embezzling from her trust fund, he threatens her in a way that lets her know she has to flee – the sooner the better. Lucky for her, the opportunity presents itself and she grabs it.
Hamish MacQueen, Marquess of Sleat, has a scarred face from Waterloo, but most of his scars are from much earlier in his life and they are on the inside. Hamish knows he can never love or marry – or even become close with anyone because he’ll only harm them. He’s a violent person who can’t be trusted not to hurt those for whom he cares. At least, that is his view of himself. Those who know him, know he is a kind, giving person who always ‘saves’ others. So, when he needs to get back to the Isle of Skye to save his sister – and at the same time a lovely three-year-old little girl is dropped off on his doorstep – he leaps at the offer from the girl who lives next door. She’ll travel with him to Scotland and be nursemaid to young Tilda – who might – or might not – be Hamish’s illegitimate offspring.
When circumstances along the road cause Hamish to offer a marriage of convenience to Olivia, she accepts. She wants a real marriage, but he insists they’ll only stay married until her twenty-fifth birthday when she comes into her inheritance. That is quite a bitter pill to swallow for romantic Olivia who wants the whole thing – love, marriage, family – all of it.
I loved how Olivia slowly figures Hamish out and does her best to help him – even if he won’t give their marriage a chance. She has long admired him and it didn’t take much to tip her over to loving him. He also finds that he loves her, but he cannot let himself act on it – he has to protect her.
I loved their journey into their HEA. This would easily have been a 5-star read for me – except – it committed one of my cardinal sins. The villains of the piece got away totally free – actually they got rewarded. They had spent years abusing Olivia, demeaning her, ridiculing her, threatening her – and they get rewarded by Olivia and Hamish. No, I don’t think so!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
How to Catch a Sinful Marquess, by Amy Rose Bennett. I enjoyed reading this book. I was impressed by the different subplots that intertwined with the main plot. These together, helped support the intense drama and the budding romance between Hamish and Olivia. The drama skirted the Cinderella story, but continuously remained original.
I was caught up from the beginning with the witty flirtatious humor that Olivia brought to her character. As you continue to read the story you will see her confidence build and take charge of her being. Olivia begins to realize that her feelings for Hamish is more than a innocent crush on her next door neighbor. Hamish introduces himself as her knight and shining armor. After he rescues Olivia from the ledge of her house, the two new relationship grows into a beautiful romance.
Before Hamish and Olivia get lost in the love that they have for one another, they will need to meet head on the demons that try to infect their lives. The two realize how much they will need each other to do this. Hamish comes home from the battle of Waterloo, intending to live a solitary life. An escaping cat artist has changed that plan considerably for him with the help of a little girl by the name of Tilda.
Hamish receives a letter from home asking for his presence. He calls on his neighbor for some assistance. Olivia, has been the ward under her non to loving uncle and his family. Wanting to gain access to Olivia dowry, her uncle tries to marry off Olivia to her cousin Felix. Olivia says, she’s having none of that and puts to plan an escape.
It just so happens that Hamish needs help with Tilda on his trip back home to Scotland. Halfway through their trip Olivia’s evil past catches up with her. Hamish puts forth a plan to protect Olivia. Little that these to realize that this plan unlocks the desire and passion, that unpredictability explodes at a moment’s notice, when these two are together. Hamish feels that he doesn’t deserve to be loved or cared for.
His suffering nightmares, leads him down an agonizing dark tunnel. Each time Olivia is there as his light, to bring him back. No matter how Hamish tried keep his distance from Olivia, her innocent and sweet seduction pulls Hamish towards her, with a burning desire to claim her as his. My fellow readers. I recommend this book. Until next time… read on! I voluntary reviewed this ARC after receiving a free gifted copy.

How to Catch a Sinful Marquess is the third book in the Disreputable Debutantes. This has been such a fun series with four ladies being expelled from a ladies’ academy and now they are trying to find husbands. This book caught my attention on the first page and it was so easy to read.
Olivia de Vere (aka. Lavinia Morland) was an orphaned heiress living with her uncle and his family. They had been trying to convince her to marry her cousin, Felix, so they could control her money. When she overheard Felix discussing with a friend about stealing her money and his threats towards her, Olivia knew she had to escape London. Discovering Hamish’s dilemma and traveling to Scotland with him was her only solution. She felt guilty for not telling Hamish the truth about her identity but she was afraid he would return her to London if he knew who she really was. Discovering her identity, Hamish marries her with the plan to divorce after she receives her inheritance.
Hamish MacQueen, Marquess of Sleat, never planned on getting married or having children, afraid he would become abusive like his father. When a screaming child, with a note claiming him as her father, is left on his doorstep, he has no idea what to do. Discovering she was Olivia de Vere instead of Lavinia Morland shocked him, but he wanted to help her. He tried to resist her believing that he wasn’t good enough for her, but as her self-confidence grew so did her determination to stay married to him.
I love this series and all the wonderful characters. I look forward to the next book about Charlie’s story.
