It’s amazing how the author’s mind works. This book series is unlike any that I have read before and each book I fall more in love with the world she has built and the characters. The characters continue to evolve and deepen. The mystery in each book keeps you guessing until the end. Just magnificent!
This book is amazing! I loved it! Addicting as always, and wonderful engaging characters.. I voluntarily received this book for an honest review.
Prose and Cons: a reverse harem murder mystery (Nevermore Bookshop Mysteries Book 5) Kindle Edition
by Steffanie Holmes
I borrowed this book via the Kindle Unlimited program. I am choosing to leave a fair and honest review.
There is really nothing like a Steffanie Holmes book, particularly her RH stories. This book is no exception.
We are back at the Nevermore Bookshop with Mina and her three loves – Heathcliff from Wuthering Heights, Dr. James Moriarty from the Sherlock Holmes stories and Quoth from Poe’s famous poem (Quoth is also a shapeshifter who becomes a raven). Everything seems wonderful for the four of them, until there is another murder. This time of a woman who had reportedly committed suicide the year before. And this woman has a connection to Morrie, a surprising one. Of course this wouldn’t be a Steffanie Holmes book if there wasn’t at least one or two name Easter Eggs. My personal favorite is Mina’s father using the last name of Simson.
But under all the fun, games and sweaty, hot, sizziling sex scenes is authentic, visceral story of Mina losing her sight. The realization that she is quickly becoming blind often pops up at the most stressful moments. As a reader, this made what she was going through so much more real. It is never overdone, never pushed on to the reader. Real emotions, real changes, and real understanding have a tactile feeling. Whether it is the exploration of the world by Mina and her trusty Oscar, or Mina’s musings. The reader is captured and their empathy rises. But there is no moment when I thought poor Mina, I feel pity for her.
The big bad of the first few books gets closer. Ms. Holmes’ slow introduction of him takes us back to when he was a feared.
Morrie, Quoth and Heathcliff are starting to become more three-dimensional and more human.
The mystery is fun, with just enough red-herring clues to distract the reader from the real culprit!
I really love this series and love all Ms. Holmes’s work

Another wonderful book in this awesome series. I just love all of the characters and the action. Sherlock. Dracula. A waterfall. Bring on the next one.
Morrie is accused of murder. Mina will do anything necessary to prove he is innocent. To make matters more confusing, Morrie’s ex has popped onto the scene, and jealousy aside, Mina isn’t convinced he has Morrie’s best interests at heart. Too top it all off, while taking steps to impede Drakula’s agenda, they discover that he has an “inside man”.
I love these delightful, and captivating characters. I think they are all beautifully well written, and sometimes hysterically funny. Mystery, suspense, humor, and unexpected twists in the plot make this another must read book in this fascinating series. Fantastic!
I am voluntarily leaving an honest and non-incentivize review of this ARC.
Mina Wilde is back at it again, this time Morrie is the one in the hot seat this time. Dracula may already be in town and Morrie has been arrested for the murder of a woman that he had been seen with and his criminal activity points straight to him, Mina makes it a point to hop in the car on the way to the police station but they never arrive there but they end up in another town miles away. Mina finds herself in a police car alone and then hops a bus home and is embraced warmly. we also have her mother taking over the shop with her new business. Heatcliff and Quoth escort Mina to the training camp for her new partner. So many twist and turn in this romantic suspense reversed harem. I enjoyed this storyline and the characters very believable. I was given a copy as a gift from the author without obligations. I am providing an honest review.
Yes! I was so excited when this book was on my iPad this morning when I woke up. I was counting on it, so I would have been quite disappointed if it hadn’t been the case, but still. After the previous 4 books and the Novella I was so eager to read on. Especially because our last read ended with quite a cliffhanger!
And the book totally absolutely didn’t disappoint. It was everything I loved about the Nevermore Bookshop Mysteries and more! Maybe this mystery was even more exciting because it was really directly putting one of the guys in danger, the smartest one even, and therefore it not only became a race against time, but also a very emotional race because the stakes were quite high. And yet Holmes never lost herself in the mystery and that excitement.
She really managed to divide her attention between the four pillars of this series: The individual mystery of the book, the big arc that will end in the next book, the personal development of the characters and mostly Mina and of course the romance. Not once does it feel like one is being forgotten, neglected or sacrificed for the other. There is enough story and there are enough pages for everything to get its chance to shine.
The romance is at times heartbreaking and brought me to tears. Mina’s development is amazing and watching her grow more confident with herself and her future is so beautiful. The big story arc is clearly coming closer and closer and becoming more and more dangerous and I love it. And this mystery is once more just as exciting as the previous ones. I love how Holmes constantly keeps us on the tips of our toes and yet always manages to surprise in the end, without the reveals coming out of nowhere.
Once more I’ve laughed. I’ve cried. I’ve shivered. And I most of all had the most amazing time one can have with a book. I finally have the perfect answer to the question: “What’s your favorite book series ever?” It’s so totally and completely this one!
Mina and her men (Quoth, Heathcliff and Morrie/Moriarty), will need to solve the latest murder, where Morrie seems to be framed as the murder. Although it might need to be a divided front as Morrie will need to hide from the police determine to arrest him for the crime, and he has an ex who wants to help solve the mystery, which is going to make it even more complicated. Can Mina solve the mystery first and keep Morrie safely out of jail, and with her and her men? I love new addition to this series of books, where Mina’s boyfriends originally came to life from books, and they solve murder mysteries. Mina is loosing her eye sight, but she is not letting that stop her (so she is a great strong woman), who has some quirks and quirky boyfriends to make it all so interesting.
Overall rating: 4.6
Another amazing mystery surrounding this mysterious bookshop and it’s inhabitants. It takes a bit for my brain to wrap around the portrayal of sherlocks lifelong nemesis as a positive character. Each of these characters are well thought out and intriguing. Love the foreboding ending, which of course, makes the next book a must read! All my reviews are always voluntarily written.
Best book so far in this series. Moriarty has been charged with murder, and on his way to the police station is kidnapped along with Mina. But the kidnapper is not someone who wants revenge for the killing, he is someone from Moriarty’s past who is actually an ally. Or is he? With Moriarty being kept hidden, Mina just has her other two men to help find the real killer. But more suspects are being added to the list, with multiple reasons for the murder. Who really did it and why. The answer is convoluted and complex, and unexpected. But Mina solves it. But now Dracula is onto her and what the shop represents, and he will do anything to gain access to it. They have to stop him before he is able to control the world. I loved how Steffanie Holmes injected her name as an author in this book. Very funny. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review
