I enjoyed this little fairy tale. It has a little espionage in it, but I don’t know how killing the Duke would make the estate manager the new Duke, since he was only an employee and not related to the Duke. Otherwise, the story has all the necessary intrigue, action and wonderful characters to make this romance work.
This story of Marcus and Sophie was a wonderful one. The storyline was well written and captured the characters in a good light. The story was so easy to read that it kept me wanting more. The pages flew by and I was sad to see the end of the story. It left me wanting more, to see how life for Marcus and Sophie turns out.
Ms. Harding has written another winning piece.
This was an engaging piece poor Sophie is being played by Mr. Ferguson. Lord Marcus Kingston had given her a job as a cook, but something more had happened between them. Sophie has a decision to make what will she do? This was an interesting piece with amazing characters and so well-written. I so wanted Sophie to figure out what Mr. Ferguson is up to and turn to the true love she is offered. Ms. Harding has written another winning piece that I highly recommend. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
I liked this storyline very much. Greed drives men to distraction and desperation drives people to consider things they normally would not. Sophie character is admirable. She is driven, mature, organized, detail oriented, success is her goal. She is a professional French chef and is driven out of her father’s restaurant for being a woman and that was bad for business. She has a brother dependent on her. Times in France are hard and dangerous. Derek and Sophie decide for her to sail to England, get established, save money and send for him where they can be safe and start over. Sophie is a unique heroine, strong, stable, human, who tries her best in an unknown country. She is unfamiliar with England and their ways of behaving and thinking. The time frame of the story is just a few years after the defeat of Napoleon and the English hate the French. Sophie tries to blend in and hide her accent. Her life in London has begun on a high note but quickly descends in ways she could never imagine. She finds a job as a cook for Lord Marcus Kingston, the Duke of Northpeak. He is beloved by his staff and is a good kind master. When Sophie and Marcus first lay eyes on each other during her interview they are immediately attracted and connect with each other. Marcus knows he must wed but can he deal with the ton giving him the direct cut for being with a cook? She is well below his status and yet he cannot get her out of his mind. Little does Marcus know a person he trusts beyond a shadow of a doubt is betraying him, secretly consorting with his young sister and has put spies in his mist. For Sophie she is faced with the desperation of getting her brother to England and fighting her attraction to Marcus. She must decide what takes precedent as does Marcus. Reading this will pull at your heartstrings and you will feel and relate to the very realist feelings and emotions of these characters. This a very good read and I do recommend it.
