This was a novella length story that was humbling to read. The female protagonist, Gemma Maguire, is a lovely young Christian woman who is strong in her faith. She needed to be as the author threw almost everything at her and she still is a warming lovely character who instead of questioning “why me?” She was questioning what was she doing wrong to make all of the bad things that were happening to her.
Gemma’s father threatened to kill her first love so she turned Teagan Kavanagh away when he proposed marriage. Teagan enlists in the Army and go and fights in the Civil War. Gemma doesn’t know this and most secrets are exposed to her that she will have keep from Teagan, that is if she ever sees him again. Both suffered greatly and the tangled web of lies is slowly unraveled to reveal the truth in the deception perpetuated by others.
The road to Teagan and Gemma’s HEA is one that is filled with great strife, mystery and tragedy. But through it all, Gemma turns to the Lord to see her through.
I adored the dual POV format that the book is written in. The people of that era, had a totally different outlook of life. Getting that glimpse allowed me to thoroughly understand what these two were feeling and thinking in the different scenes throughout the story.
This is a sweet, clean second-chance historical romance. It has a wonderful faith based foundation so no one should be offend by this story. I look forward to reading the other Kavanagh brothers’ stories.
3 stars
Loved Gemma and Teagan. Great beginning to what looks like a wonderful series. I can’t wait to read about the rest of the brothers. Thank you Kathleen Ball. Another great book.
It’s been a couple wonderful days reading this great book. It’s a Christian book, clean, interesting and romantic. After the Civil War, men came home to ranches that had changed, families that had loss and towns limited on people. It was no different with Teagan Kavanagh when he came back to a ranch that needed him and his brothers to get it in shape, days filled with hard work and neighbors that all seemed to need some sort of help. This story is the typical western that will make you smile, cry a few tears and feel warmth in your heart when you reach The End. I highly recommend this read as it will hold your interest and make you want to read Book 2.
What a great start to a new series. This is Teagan and Gemma’s story and the character development is excellent. This is a story with many twists and turns with some mystery and strange happenings. The couple have many obstacles and misunderstandings to overcome before ever finding a HEA. I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it…looking forward to the next book in the series.
Amazing Story
Teagon’s story is well written and a page turner. So many twists and turns that ultimately set him and Gemma free but leads to the other stories in the series. I look forward to continuing the series.
