My name’s Shelby Flynn and I come from a long line of powerful witches. When I was sixteen, an angel supercharged my powers, told me I was destined for great things, then disappeared into the ether. What was I supposed to do with that?Don’t get me wrong – being able to control the elements, move things with my mind, and conjure fire from midair is cool, but none of that will help me pass my … pass my midterms. On the upside, they WILL help me save humanity on a regular basis from various forms of evil I didn’t even know existed.
Lileth, a Fae who leads a super-secret society called the Celestial Witches Academy, has given me a choice – live a secret life and lie to my friends, family, and amazing boyfriend in order to fulfill my magical destiny, or let humanity suffer so I can ace bio tests and go to frat parties.
I don’t have to love it, but I do have to do it. Look out baddies, I’m Shelby Flynn, and I’m here to take some names!

A really great start to this spin-off from the Keyhole Lake series. Just as much fun as the original series with some intriguing twists and interesting new characters. I’m looking forward to reading more.
Books have always been a major part of my life. Some books, though, touch me in a strong way. They can change me. Shape me. Take me away. Or do something else to charm me. The one thing they have in common is a certain feeling I get from these special ones. I can totally love a book or even series and yet it won’t give me that one feeling. Marked By Fate gave me that feeling. I didn’t expect that. I’m older than Shelby Flynn. I was expecting a YA feel. I was expecting an enjoyable reading experience. I was correct in all that. I was surprised to get the special feels. This is book one in the series. I want to read more and not just because there is a bit of continuation to the ending. I want the feeling to continue. I’m hoping it does. The story follows Shelby and her friend Emma as they are off to college. They both have magical talent. Shelby has a big decision to make..eventually. In this book we see the start of her struggle. We also meet those who will help her, some who will add pressure to the decision and some who hope to hinder her. I am purposely being vague. If I tell you all, how will you enjoy the book?
The book is more than witches with introductions to familiars, the fae, werewolves, and hellhounds. I expect others will come. I love Stu. I have a snarky sense of humor. He plays to it. I also love the interaction between Shelby and Spot.
I am wondering if this is connected to other series by the author. There was hints of things that happened. I will be reading the series with the same location named.
There is some mild cursing. It was rare in my opinion. But that and a couple other things influence me enough to say this one is suited more for older teens than younger ones. Adults of all ages with a love for fantasy can enjoy this book. My recommendation is to read it, try the sample if you aren’t convinced, and decide if it is for you.
I really liked what the author has done with this new series – a smooth spinoff from her popular Keyhole Lake series, this series will feature Shelby’s life adventures. This book really hits the ground running – Shelby is supposed to be on her own from the first time attending college, but fate has other ideas for her future and she is immediately thrust into drama and adventure. Very entertaining and imaginative – love the Valkyrie shield! Will definitely enjoy following her future adventures and am looking forward to book #2 because I have to know what happens with the scepter and stones!
Shelby Flynn, her boyfriend Cody and witch friend Emma start at the University of Georgia. I thought witches were supposed to fly but in this book it way the pages ociin the book that were flying as I kept trying to read faster to see what was going to happen next. Shelby and Emma get pulled into a secret society for gifted magical students that get recruited and they aren’t allowed to tell anyone about this program. So it is really bothering Shelby to be lying to her family and b/f about what she is up to. But in order to help humanity out she has to decide whether to stay in this society or let humanity suffer and have a regular life of college student. I couldn’t put this book down it was so good and now it is going to seem like forever before the next book becomes available. This book in my opinon has really jumped up in action and learning what all Shelby is able to do.
