Pressured by her family to wed a wealthy gentleman who doesn’t love her, eighteen-year-old Dara grows increasingly upset and confused by her husband’s refusal to consummate the marriage, and when he announces that he will be travelling abroad for three months she decides it is time for her to seek out her own happiness, starting with an extended visit to London.Dara’s plan soon goes horribly … horribly awry, however, when she tumbles from her horse during a storm and is forced to seek refuge in a farmhouse. Her stern, handsome host wastes no time in stripping Dara of her wet clothing and wrapping her in a blanket, and before the night is over he has claimed her in a rough, demanding, intensely pleasurable way that leaves her longing to be his.
Her dishonesty about her situation earns Dara a painful, humiliating spanking the next morning, and over the coming weeks she learns what it means to be thoroughly and shamefully mastered. Though every moment she spends away from her husband’s estate risks a scandal, when it comes to light that he has a secret lover of his own perhaps an arrangement can be agreed upon…

Set in the mid 1700’s when women had no voice, and sex was just a duty to bear, and not to enjoy. Dara is forced to marry a wealthy Lord, who only wants a heir. He doesn’t touch her and leaves on business. So she takes off, a storm hits, and she’s rescued by a Dominant farmer. You can imagine their relationship, as Matthew believes in spanking. I really enjoyed reading this book. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
This is a sweet loving story. There were several twists in it that really made the story. An enjoyable read that I did not want to put down. Then just when you think everything is settled, wham one more twist to end the story. A real page turner.
Ms. Peaches certain knows how to entice her readers! Dara is in an arranged marriage. Her sole purpose, to produce an heir for her husband. So, why is he not consummating the marriage? When he goes off to London for an extended stay, Dara decides she needs an adventure. Ill prepared, she heads to London too. Darn that rain storm. She seeks shelter from the rain in a barn, and comes across Matthew. Her adventure begins. How does it end? After her time with Matthew, can she go back to her husband? I just loved this naughty historical romance!
Dara is the sixth daughter, and as such does not have a significant dowry. She is coerced by her family into marrying Lord Coleman, who is wealthy and titled. Although he seems happy to accept her as his wife, he ignores her completely and travels on long business trips. Maggie does not appreciate his indifference, so she decides to leave on a short trip of her own.
On her way to town, she is saved from a torrential downpour by Matthew, a country farmer. Therein begins many changes. Dara starts to adjust to realities she thought she already knew. She opens her mind to changes she did not know existed, and she learned to accept Matthew’s exacting demands.
I really enjoyed this very exciting, sensual, erotic, adventurous story of a young woman beginning her adult life with complications.
Historical Romance with a Twist
This was an interesting read. I enjoy reading this genre of book even though it is not primary genre. This book takes place in Britain during the Georgian Era. It is a time where birth order and dowries determine marriage. Marriages are arranged with the focus on wealth, titles and most likely power. One such marriage was arranged for Dara to Lord Coleman. But such arranged marriages are not always what they seem. When Dara is left after her unconsummated marriage, she sets off on an adventure. without any forethought to what she is doing. She just wants to explore life. A change storm leaves her in the arms of a local farmer. She ends up staying with him over the next few weeks and grows into herself and her sexuality through the actions of the dominant Matthew. It was a very interesting read with a definite twist ending that I did not expect. A good read overall.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Quirky idea. Newly wed wife Dara left alone and unsure of how to entice her husband into fulfilling his manly duty. Independent and headstrong she forges ahead with her own plans and falls into the hands of the near neighbor and finds almost all she is looking for. Can she find eternal happiness or will her marriage get in the way? You will want to read this to find out.
I read and reviewed a copy of this book.
The Borrowed Bride has a lot of intriguing emotional twists and turns that get you caught up in the story. Dara learns a lot about love only it’s not from her husband. It is an interesting story that draws you in having you guessing as to why her husband was treating her as such and the conclusion blows Dara away. Will everyone come away with a happily ever after? I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review.
I enjoyed reading this entertaining yet intriguing historical romance. The characters are quite complex & well-developed with individual personalities & react with varying emotions to the situations they find themselves in. The story-line is well-thought out and written with some unexpected complications & events.
There is: a feisty young bride (Dara) left on her own, a disinterested husband (Lord Coleman), a domineering man (Matthew) with secrets, some drama, secrets, disinterest, discipline, spanking, training, verbal conflict, memories, decisions, heartache, humiliation, threats, blackmail, determination, confrontation, discovery, compromises, love, happiness, steamy scenes & a satisfying conclusion
This is a steamy read with intriguing characters.
A very different kind of book and although it has a happy ending it is not what you expect! There is a lot of very passionate sex that is not necessarily romantic but very hot. There are back stories with some sadness and there are delightful characters. All in all a enjoyable read.
