A stolen identity leads a woman down a dark and desperate path in a gripping novel of psychological suspense by Wall Street Journal bestselling author Minka Kent.
After barely surviving a brutal attack, Brienne Dougray rarely leaves her house. Suffering from debilitating headaches and memory loss, she can rely only on her compassionate new tenant, Dr. Niall Emberlin, a welcome distraction from … welcome distraction from the discomfiting bubble that has become her existence.
But Brienne’s growing confidence in her new routine is shaken when she stumbles across unsettling evidence that someone else is living as…her. Same name. Same car. Same hair. Same clothes. She’s even friended her family on social media. To find out why, Brienne must leave the safety of her home to hunt a familiar stranger.
What she discovers is more disturbing than she could have ever imagined. With her fragile mind close to shattering, Brienne is prepared to do anything to reclaim her life. If it’s even hers to reclaim.

I like to be manipulated. It seems.
Having been through the experience of reading this book. I wanna ride again.
‘Yeah. I see where this is going.’ No. Not at all what you were thinking.
Great read.
I enjoyed this from start to finish
Very worth reading
Another great, original premise that had me guessing until the end!
This is a psychological thriller. This is not a romance. It is about a con job. The title made me think the story was going center on the “when I was you” character. It did not. The story went in an entirely different direction. When I reached the end of the book, I realized it was not as suspenseful as I expected. However, it did hold my attention. Most of the emotional reactions were realistic. The reasons for the reactions I feel were a little unbelievable. Overall it centered mostly on the psychological and not the secondary relationships in the story. I feel the main male and female characters were the focus but I feel it may have added to the story if the secondary relationships were developed. It wasn’t till the very end everything became clear. What was left hanging was the fate of the lead male character. The story alluded to it but it would have been interesting to find out how long he was actually going to be out of commission. I also wondered what the future held for the secondary female character. I feel the ending was unfinished. Like I said it did hold my attention for the most part. I would not recommend this to a diehard thrill seeker.
” ‘ ” ,” ‘ ‘ , . . .”
This book was nothing like I read before. The premise is simple, a woman got brutally attacked resulting in some memory loss but with each turn of the page, things get more and more mysterious. Characters are well developed and these people are not always what they seem. The most compelling part for me was the way the story was told. It kept me guessing. Revealing details just at the right time. The author didn’t dwell in any graphic images or violence and lets you imagine it yourself. To me, those are the best psycho-thriller story. Of all the books I read from this author I think this is her best work yet. I really don’t think I can find a big complaint about this book I loved it from the beginning to the end. Highly recommended.
When I was You
By Minka Kent
Main Characters: Brienne and Niall
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.
4 out of 5 stars
I try to read all things contemporary romance/suspense. This fits the bill of contemporary suspense. Very little romance in this book but it does make you think about how and who can be stealing her identity. It is about 280 pages on my Kindle. I would categorize this as a psychological thriller. I can’t get into too much in the book or it would be a spoiler. Suffice to say, this was one of the better Amazon first reads books.
As a recent victim of an attack, a woman becomes somewhat agoraphobic and dependent on her new male tenant. After finding evidence that someone has stolen her identity, her tenant then reveals that the woman is actually his wife and that her injury has brought on dissociative identity disorder. This is a riveting grab-you-instantly suspense, with twists and turns that keep you wondering what to believe and who to trust. It’s an easy and rather quick read because you’ll be racing to the very finish.
I enjoyed this suspenseful psychological thriller.
Brienne’s life has been upended, and she’s still trying to find her way back when sinister events have her second-guessing everything. Told in alternating first-person POV, the author still keeps the reader guessing all the way through. The character development was superb, the suspense just enough to keep things creepy without quite stepping over the line into horror. It’s an enthralling book that will leave you thinking about it for a long time. There’s a satisfying ending with all the loose ends tied up. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
A mystery with twisted phycological turns, Minka Kent, has given us a blazing fast storyline full of intrigue, battles of minds and bodies, and souls. Enough number crunching to make your head spin and thrilling-chilling roadblocks in the reader, making them doubt their theories as to the progression of the story!
Devoured Ms. Kent’s words from cover to digital cover- left happy to find out the ending, but empty now that the crazy train is over!
A five star read I highly recommend!
I am glad I found Minka Kent’s books through Kindle Unlimited and then was able to read this ARC from Netgalley and the author. All thoughts are my own. She is now one of my favorite suspense/ psychological thriller authors to go to. This is a fast paced read. You know the twists are coming and it keeps you guessing!
Whew! What a thrilling, action packed ride filled with secrets, lies, manipulation and confusion! Every time I thought I had figured out where this story was going, TWIST, it went another way! The suspense kept me on my toes and sucked me in from page one! I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Fantastic read!
