This first book of the series has a dual plot line to follow. There is intrigue and action plus humor between the main characters, Carly and Sergio, who are police partners hunting a serial killer in Tampa, Florida. As the story unfolds, and the bodies pile up, an unexpected outside investigator also enters the fray. There are a number of plot twists to follow, but the author weaves them all together in the end.
Another quality book from this author. I recommend this read.
I loved this mile-a-minute story about a serial killer in Florida.
The first of a series of stories about a homicide detective team in Tampa, the story tells a very complex tale of a rash of violent murders. Great writing and a well told police procedure story with a twist at the end I didn’t see coming.
Highly recommended.
Such a great read! The characters are full and the storyline is fast paced and easy to read. Great plot!
A page-turning, psycho-thriller!
A new serial killer is in town and detectives Carly Sanderson and Sergio Martin are on the hunt. The murders are particularly brutal, the clues practically nonexistent, and there are too many bodies to hide from the citizens and the press. The town is in a panic, and now the wife of one of the victims has hired Tyree, an ex-cop turned private investigator, to assist the police in finding the killer.
This is another fast-paced crime thriller by Dan Alatorre – the action starts on page one and accelerates from there. Alatorre inserts the reader into the mind of the killer – a very twisted mind – to provide a chilling point of view. There are subplots and twists that keep you guessing until the end. The characters are enjoyable and there are bits of humor to keep it real like the airport scene. I enjoyed the ongoing interaction between Tyree and Lavonte and the vignettes with the mysterious Frank.
I received a free copy but my review is honest and voluntary. Anyone who likes crime thrillers will love this book – I did!
Interesting thriller; hits the ground running from page one. There are several interesting characters in Double Blind. A serial killer is on a rampage in Tampa and Detectives Carly Sanderson and Sergio Martin are the lead detectives on the case. When a local prominent business owner and one of his daughters are both found murdered, family friend John Tyree, is hired by the widow as a Private Investigator to discover why they were targeted. At the same time, the hunters become the hunted. Find out how all of this intertwines and prepare for some twist and turns along the way; for there is more than meets the eye in this thriller. I also really liked the way the author gives a glimpse inside the mind of the serial killer. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
Detective work is not limited to police officers 4 stars
Grisly serial murders near Tampa, Florida excite a pervert and encourage a copy-cat crime. Follow the money and get a different reward, a good read.
Hopefully you will never get close to an insane serial killer. However in Double Blind, you will hear his breath, his whispers and his victim’s agony. He is a very nasty guy.
In contrast there are two guys who start off fighting each other. One is an ex-cop and the other is a drug enforcer who provides protection for the drug racketeers. These guys are pretty good at solving crimes while working just beyond the law. Their initial meeting is a rough but they become a team.
The crimes and investigation stories blend and mesh in the warm Tampa sun. The stories of police people at work and in their downtime are a vital part of the story.
One wonderful word picture includes a bunch of school kids who are invited to visit a local police station arrive just as there is a situation inside the police station.
This imaginative story has a sequel which I have added to my list of books to read.
This book starts out fast with a serial killer doing his first kill, an extremely messy disgusting kill on a trucker back form a long haul, unloading his cargo. Even from the first kill I have never read of a serial killer who enjoyed his work so much.
Detectives Carly Sanderson and Sergio Martin are assigned the horrific killing, which by the next night turns into two. We hear what the killer is thinking, which for me is new and adds to me trying to figure out who it is, not to mention the extra creepy factor of being in his head. Not too long before the end of the book we do find out who the killer is, but I was still on edge not knowing what he was going to do next.
Also at the same time Carly and Sergio are given two more cases that seem to be the serial killer but things just don’t track the same for them. But if it isn’t the same then there is a horrific copycat killer.
On these last two, they are father and daughter and they along with mother and sister own a shipping business. The wife hires an old friend who had been a sheriff deputy turned P.I. to start with the help find some missing checks from the family business and then to find out who killed her husband and daughter.
To me the subplot is a little more confusing since we have several people from the first plot and add more to this one. But fairly soon it makes perfect sense. It takes me a really long time to figure out who killed these two family members, and I pride myself in being able to figure out who did it long before the end of the book, but not in this case
Almost at the end of the book that killer is revealed, but there are still a couple of surprises left.
I have read several of Dan Allatorre books and love them all, but this one is very different. I loved it, but to me it is not just a thriller but adds some horror into the mix. Once you get past the descriptions of the horrific kills, the it is back to a thriller ether two plots.
I am not a writer and am always a little leery when reviewing a book that I will give away too much, but I think this review should grab you and give you just enough to read the book. At least I hope so.
I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to readers who like fast paced thrillers with a wonderful storyline. Maybe this should be for 18 and above for some of the scenes. But I know younger people who watch movies and play video games that are much more graphic, so use your own judgment.
This book starts out bloody. A serial killer with a yearning to get his hands wet and dirty dispatches a truck driver with a gun and then a knife, leaving a gruesome crime scene for Tampa detectives Sergio and Carly. The reader experiences the kill from the killer’s point of view, and that continues through the book as we get inside his deranged head and listen to his internal struggles while he plans and executes his kills. Meanwhile, the Tampa police are eager to get him off the streets and Sergio and Carly are leads on the case. There is plenty of action and suspense, especially when the killer decides that Carly will be his next victim.
Meanwhile, the author gives us a meaty subplot that is really a completely separate story with wholly unrelated characters. When a wealthy businessman and his daughter are both murdered, the serial killer is the presumed villain, but there is more to that story than obviously meets the eye, and a former cop turned PI named Johnny Tyree is in town and is a friend of the family, so he launches into an informal investigation, aided by another of the family’s daughters. This subplot gets pretty complex and a few times it’s challenging to keep the two plots straight. There are a few points of overlap, but they are mostly separate. The family intrigue subplot is not as gripping as the main serial killer story, but it provides some interesting mysteries of its own and some fun characters.
The book is well written and well edited, which makes it a pleasure to read. I can quibble about a few plot points and would have preferred a little more focus on Sergio and Carly, but if you like police procedurals and don’t get squeamish at the description of the bloody crime scenes, you will certainly enjoy this book. This is my first dip into the Dan Alatorre literary pool, and I’ll certainly be back for more.
I’ll admit I’m a little biased about this one because I helped edit, but it’s a fabulously entertaining, dark thriller with an awesome twist.
The suspense keeps building as the net closes in on the murderer, but who is he? Just when you think you know, you realize it may be someone else.
I love a book that provides a suspenseful thrill ride and Dan Alatorre knows how to write them! Give this one a try.
A murderer driven by a lust for fear and pain is on the prowl in Tampa, Florida. His first victim is a truck driver, shot and slaughtered while unloading car parts late at night in an industrial park. His next casualty is a jogger pounding the dark streets of Ybor City, an out-of-town businessman unaware of the danger surrounding him. His third fatality is a prominent businessman, Henry Dilger, owner of a multi-million dollar produce-shipping business, who ignores his wife’s prescient warning to skip driving to the company’s Lakeland warehouse in his obsessive search for a missing invoice.
Detectives Carly Sanderson and Sergio Martin are assigned the initial case and soon realize they’re dealing with a serial killer. At the same time, John Tyree, a Dilger family friend, comes home to join his uncle Frank’s business, and Mrs. Dilger asks him to find the butcher who murdered her husband.
After three killings and a near-miss by a high-school couple, the police search shifts into high gear. However, after Carly is attacked during her nightly jog, she and Sergio realize the killer may be much closer than they suspected.
They don’t realize there might be more than one.
It’s best to read Double Blind during daylight hours, because Dan Alatorre has crafted a thriller that will terrify even the hardiest readers.
Double Blind, my third read/listen from author Dan Alatorre. I don’t restrict myself to a particular genre. I’m a sucker for anything with memorable characters and a story that keeps me guessing and a plot that keeps me turning the page & this book did (third read, third different genre)! Narrator Margaret Glaccum’s narration added greatly to the book’s enjoyment. I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. *SPOILER I thought the kill sequences were a bit over-the-top, but that’s me. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 – July 24, 2018).
Wow is all I can say. I found this book hard to put down but alas I had to sleep sometime! Great story that is about a serial killer in the Tampa Bay area that will keep you swiping your Kindle and guessing at the subplot until the very end. Quite descriptive and not for the squeamish, completely realistic if you can put yourself in the mind of a psychopath murderer. Clever plot in general, likable hero characters and a villain that you completely love to hate. Really makes you wonder how people think they are so much smarter than everyone else…so fulfilling to watch the mistakes unfold. Twists, turns, and lots of surprises and unlikely alliances. I absolutely recommend this book and can’t wait to read the next installment of Sergio and Carly. I received a complimentary copy of this book and am providing this review of my own volition.
Double Blind by Dan Alatorre will keep you up at night! This is a book that is filled with suspense, terror, mystery and some graphic gore! It is also a book that is hard to put down – You have to keep reading to find out what is going to happen next. There are detectives, murders, and lots of action and the chasers (detectives) and now the chased!
This book will grab you from the start and if you can take to descriptive murder scenes, it will keep you guessing and reading until the final page! I received an advance reader copy of this book and I always review every book that I read. If you like Stephen King, you will love this book.
