Terry’s Pratchett’s profoundly irreverent novels are consistent number one bestsellers in England, where they have catapulted him into the highest echelons of parody next to Mark Twain, Kurt Vonnegut, Douglas Adams, and Carl Hiaasen.
Meet Granny Weatherwax, the most highly regarded non-leader a coven of non-social witches could ever have. Generally, these loners don’t get involved in anything, … anything, mush less royal intrigue. but then there are those times they can’t help it. As Granny Weatherwax is about to discover, though, it’s a lot harder to stir up trouble in the castle than some theatrical types would have you think. Even when you’ve got a few unexpected spells up your sleeve.

I can’t believe this is the first Terry Pratchett book I’ve read. What a wonderful voice!
I’d never heard of Terry Pratchett until one day a book cover caught my eye. I picked the book up, read the first page and darn nearly read the whole book right there in the book store.
Excuse me if I gush, but I love, love, love Granny, Nanny, Magrat and the rest of the quirky characters that run amok through the pages of WYRD SISTERS. This is a …
Shakespeare in the hands of an absurdist. The characters in Pratchett’s Discworld books have always been worth getting to know (IMO), and the Wyrd Sisters-Granny Weatherwax, Gytha Ogg and Magrat are a testament to that sentiment. A king is murdered, his heir to the throne too young to rule, and a coven of witches take it upon themselves to hide …
I started reading Terry Pratchett when I was much younger and now, being much older, I am glad to say I have read so many of his books. The world can be a stressful place, and it’s great to know that when you need an escape from the turmoil, there are writers that can make you think and laugh at the same time
I LOVE TERRY PRATCHETT’S DISCWORLD BOOKS!!! He is clever and funny and thoughtful and smart. She of the books are also touching, particularly the Tiffany Aching books. I love Granny Weatherwax, one of the weird sisters. Love her in Lords and Ladies, too. Great books.
I love the spoofs on Shakespearan plays and how the Wyrd Sisters handle not getting mucking with people’s lives. Yet they have to do something when the king gets murdered and the heir is dropped at Granny Weatherwax’s doorstep.
This is one of the ‘witches’ books in the Discworld series. They make you laugh while also making you think. The discworld is very much like our world, just tilted a little and much more honest about its issues.
Part of the excellent Discworld series
It’s Pratchett…no need to say more.
One of my favourite Pratchett books.
Read this book many years ago when it first came out. Very funny; one of Pratchett’s best early Disk World books. The witches reappear in many of his latter books. The entire Disk World series and the spinoffs are worth the price for an entertaining and humorous read.
Not quiet as good as Pratchett’s best stuff but pretty good.
Know someone who likes Shakespeare and want to give them something a little (ok, a lot!) funnier? This is the book!
Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series is a gift to the world, to readers both young and old. Reading on the surface as a young reader, Wyrd Sisters, like all of the Discworld books, is a whimsically entertaining delight. With each re-read as a more mature reader, Pratchett’s beloved series has more realism than fantasy. I’ve learned more about the …
