There’s a thin line between love and hate.Kyra Kado hates Van Hernandez. Or at least she wishes she could. Ever since she kissed him and he rejected her as a “mistake”, things have been tense onboard their tour bus. Kyra takes out her aggression during her drumming performances as a member of Kason Cox’s band and tries not to think about how well Van guards her body between their shows.Until she … their shows.
Until she meets Ollie Dawes, who’s the perfect distraction. Funny, flirty, and cute AF, he takes her mind off Van. The Hot Rides salvage man is used to being alone on his solo part-finding missions, but she suspects he’d rather not be lonely anymore. She can relate. So she invites him to come see a show.
When Van discovers Kyra and Ollie performing an illicit encore together, he goes berserk. Distancing herself from Van might keep Kyra’s heart safe, but what about her body? A string of unsettling incidents make Kyra afraid one of her admirers has crossed the line from fan to fanatic.
With Ollie and Van teamed up to protect Kyra, she isn’t sure she’ll survive being torn between the two men she craves. She might have to sacrifice her friendships with them to stay sane, unless she can think of a way to keep them both in her life or in her bed.
This is a standalone book in the Hot Rides series and includes an HEA with no cheating. The series is part of the greater universe where both the Powertools and Hot Rods books are also set, so you can visit with many of your previous favorite characters and see what they’re up to now!

This series just keeps getting better and better!
Hard Ride is book three in the Hot Rides series. As with book two, Slow Ride, you can probably read this as a standalone but I think you will definitely enjoy it more if you’ve read the previous two books first.
Wow, this book is hot! The blurb is great so take a look at it. At first I thought this was going to be an MFM ménage story but not so and boy am I glad I was wrong. Kyra and Van work together as part of singer Kason Cox’s group; she’s his drummer and Van is head of security. They are best friends but Kyra wants more. After they have a moment together, the next day Van acted like nothing had happened which upset Kyra and didn’t do anything good for her self-esteem. She decides it’s time to look elsewhere.
Ollie is a good guy and he works for the Hot Rides so Kyra has had the opportunity to get to know him and she begins to more than like him. Unfortunately, she can’t seem to forget Van either. With all of the poly groups among the Hot Rides extended family Kyra begins to wonder if she could have something similar for herself.
Getting these three people together as a triad wasn’t easy – Van was a bit slow to come around – but boy once they did was it hot as fire! There are some pretty tense moments with an over zealous fan of Kyra’s and it tested Ollie’s ability to overcome something from his past.
All in all, this was another great story from Jayne Rylon. The story for Kyra, Van and Ollie has a HFN but the last chapter sets up the next book which will be about two new characters introduced in Hard Ride, Dan and Walker. I think it’s going to be a great one.
An advanced copy of this book was provided to me but my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
I knew from the beginning paragraphs that these three were in for a hard time. Everything, all those emotions, buried so deep. All the protection mechanisms, fortified and so natural, breaking through them wouldn’t be easy. All those worries, about not being enough, about being abandoned, yet again, because that is all life has taught you. But underneath all that, such huge hearts and the wish to be loved
Kyra, Van, and Ollie worked so well as a series of duos, but the ability to want to give more to the others, it made them work as a trio. A hot, steamy, heat seeking, trio. And it was enough, for a while, but they all wanted, and deserved, more, and the road to get there wasn’t easy, but they made it!
I loved the vulnerability in the strength from these three. I loved their ability to smile through their heartaches. I loved their ability to know the people they loved so well, even before they knew they loved them. I simply loved the three of them together!
The three people of the Hot Rides crew least likely to wind up in a trio are Kyra, Ollie, and Van. Not because any of them are totally opposed to the idea but because I don’t think it was on their radar. All of them have an unnatural view of themselves. All of them are loners in their own ways. Kyra develops a friend zone defense against letting herself be vulnerable. Van separates work from his feelings. And Ollie just has a way of being that makes everyone at ease while letting no one get close to him.
It seems when they do finally get together, things will become mind blowing! Trust is not easily given from any of them because of their pasts but they must throw themselves out there to go beyond into something fantastic. I loved how this developed so naturally. Van and Kyra have been dancing around each other for so long in the previous book (not that you need to read but it’s fantastic too) but they were missing a vital piece, Ollie. He balances them out. The three of them together are a perfect mix of tender and rough. Things they all needed.
Hard Ride is the third book in the series Powertools: Hot Rides. This story is about Kyra, Ollie, and Van.
Kyra is a drummer for Kason Cox’s band (Powertools Book 2), Ollie is a paid purveyor of parts for Hot Rides, and Van is a bodyguard for Kason’s band. Each of the characters has a lot in common, including baggage. They each have to learn to communicate with each other in order to build a future together.
I won’t spoil the Hard Ride these three likable characters take together, but I enjoyed every moment I spent reading their story!
I have not read the previously published Powertools and Hot Rods series, but as some of those characters were introduced in this story, I didn’t feel lost. We also get to visit with the characters from the previous books in this series.
The scenes between Kyra, Ollie, and Van were hot and emotional. This book has everything: love, romance, angst, laughter, pain, tears, and even a villain on the way to a HEA. I cannot wait for Book 4!!
Jayne Rylon does ménage with depth and feeling like no other. This one has it all. Insecurities, wants, needs, and most of all finding the loves of your life or are they too late. Loved this book!!
