I had been waiting for this book so much and I was in NO way disappointed. Rina has already been through so much and she still continues to show how strong she is and does not give up. I love her and Leander together even though its not allowed but they will find a way. Just really amazing story and could not get enough of them.
I totally loved this read. It grabbed me from the first page to the last. With epic scenes. The Author really does a great job at World Building and Bringing the Characters to life. You can vision the scenes as you real so well. I definitely recommend this read.

Really enjoyed this episode. A lot of the questions raised in the previous books answered here. Plenty of kick ass action.
Excellent read.
3.5
‘Mage Shifter’ is book three in Lucia Ashta’s Magical Creatures Academy.
With Ky and Boone out hunting for Rage and Fury, Rina goes to the Golden Forest with Leander to spend her Winter break. After spending her Summer break there Rina knows it’s going to be awkward and difficult, especially now that Leo and her have feelings for each other and don’t want to ignore them. Will Leo be able to convince his father the King of the Fae to allow them to explore their feelings. But proving to the King she is worthy of her son is the least of her problems, with Rina’s Mountain Lion gone she needs to learn to use her mage magic. Will the MCA allow her to return for her third semester now that she is no longer a shifter? Will her brother find Rage and Fury? Will she be allowed to date Leo? Can she move on without her Lion?
So I have been very hesitant about reading this book, it’s not because I don’t enjoy the authors writing style, it’s just I had trouble with connecting and bonding with this series. I had said it with my previous book reviews that I found the characters too immature and annoying. But I will say this, this book was a lot more enjoyable. Although I still felt that there were some story missing, it was still well written with an intriguing and interesting plot that will have you guess right till the end.
I felt that Rina’s character did do a lot of maturing in this book. At times she still did frustrate me, but overall she was a lot more tolerable. Her struggles was a lot more believeable and I felt she dealt with them admirably.
Even Jas did annoy or irritate me in this book, it seemed her character had cooled down a bit and was so snarky or b*tchy. (Which I found her to be).
But I still love Leander, Wren, Dave, Boone, Adalia, Sadie and Ky, these characters are such extraordinary additions to this book, they help keep you hooked and entertained.
I loved that we got to see what happened in the Golden Forest while Rina and Leo where there. Watching the relationship between them both grow and flourish regardless of the obstacles in their way was beautiful. Being able to see and understand why Leo was so hesitant about them being together, makes more sense now after witnessing he’s father and the rest of the Fae council.
Although this book concludes Rina and Leander’s story it doesn’t mean that the story ends here. You will be able to continue and enjoy the world of MCA along with its students and Professors you’ve come to love and hate in Jas books.
*WARNING* contains sexual situations and violence
Rina is reeling from the loss of her lion, but leo is by her side. The gang had a wild 3rd term. I enjoyed this story. I like Rina’s character developed and grew into what she was meant to be. All questions were answered and it ended in a HEA.
I’m totally obsessed with this series and quite sad the trilogy is over. But now I know another one is coming, and it features my favorite character from this trilogy, the skunk shifter!
The ending to the trilogy was every bit as wonderful as the previous two books. Especially getting to see some real romance between the main character and her Elvin love interest.
The story drops you right in to the thick of her romantic drama. And I like that we get to see more of the land of the fae because that was left out of the previous book, which left me wanting to know more.
When they get to school, the action starts immediately, and while a lot of it seemed a little rushed, it definitely keeps you turning the pages.
There were a few things that I felt were unresolved throughout the action, such as what in the bloody heck happened to all those teachers and students who left the room when Jas and Wren got hurt?
They just return later on with Boone, and it’s never talked about again. Where did they go? What were they doing?
Aside from that little blip in the story for me, I was completely enthralled with the rest of the story, and didn’t get enough sleep over the past few days. I had been waiting anxiously for the book to come out, even had it marked in my calendar, and kept myself amused with the e-book while I waited for my paper back to arrive.
So excited for the next trilogy, and now it’s time for me to start reading all the previous magical arts academy stories! I hope everyone enjoys this trilogy as much as I did.
These books are so good. I love everything about them. I felt so bad for Rina. It seemed her year was going to suck. Not only that but the love of her life may be ending by the end of this book. I am glad to see that by the end of the book Rina was able to have her happy day. I can’t wait to continue the journey of these stories.
Good ending to Rina’s story although I wish it was more strung out since students study at the academy for at least 7 years before graduating. I thoroughly enjoyed the beginning since it gave insight into Rina & Leander’s summer in the land of the Fae. The previous book didn’t depict it, but she opted however to recap it by starting the new year at school. My one complaint however is that the king strikes a wager with Leander about a challenge Rina must win in order to earn the right to court Leander. They spend their weeks “training” and enjoying each other’s company in private but when the challenge begins, Rina desperately starts asking Leo what she should do. It really bothered me because shouldn’t she have already discussed this while training??? It’s an oversight that I feel should have been reworked in the editing stage. It’s simple to change it to discussing tactics they had already decided on while training.
The middle of the book is a bit chaotic by design, and passes by in a blur although the time lapse of the school year is more well written than previous books. The conflict begins before the end of the year which is a welcome change although it does occur towards the end of the year. It happens about 60% through the book which is surprising but nice. I also liked how the conflict is resolved. It gives closure to what’s been happening for the past three books now, and allows growth in a new character which is one of Rina’s friends. She also circles back to the challenge at the end of the book to decide if Rina can attend court with Leander or not. After everything is said and done, I’m still interested in the series and curious to see what conflict Jas will face in her miniseries.
Mage Shifter is Book 3 in the Magical Creatures Academy series. Lucia Ashta’s world building and character development are phenomenal. The storyline flowed beautifully throughout the three books in this series. Rina Nelle Mont is a wonderful character with heart. She is the one you would want watching your back in any situation. She would come to your aid at the drop of a hat. The relationship between Rina and Leo was beautifully written and was so great to see they got their HEA. There is a lot going on in this book — Wonky and dangerous magic happening at the Academy, Rina being kidnapped, to name a couple. This is a fast-paced, action-packed, page-turning adventure that catches/draws you into the story at page one and does not let you go until the last page and it leaves you wanting more. This is a book and series that should be read and one which I highly recommend. I received an ARC and this is my voluntary and honest review.
This is such an addictive series. A well written addictive fantasy series that once started you will not be able to put it down and this latest addition is every bit as good as the rest! Love the continuing storyline, love the characters and I love the world that this author has built!
I totally loved this book I was hooked from the very first page the storyline was epic the characters were amazing the author really did an amazing job with this magical read cant wait to see what happens next
Rina really finds herself. I absolutely love the arc. I am sad by all the crappy things that keep happening to her, but like us all, it helps make her. More bad guys. Kick ass women.
A magical journey of self discovery
Amazing book, love Rina all the way, her inner strenght is admirable, her loyalty and love for her friends and her kind heart, made possible to conquer all the battles she fought… Easy reading, beautiful world building, characters development, great story line, turned this book in a master piece everybody have to read… Can’t wait to see what the new season will bring!!!
I love Rina Nelle Mont, the star of Lucia Ashta’s Magical Creatures Academy 3: Mage Shifter. She’s just the sort of strong gal who knows what she wants and will do what it to get it that I want to be. So what if she’s facing problems that would overwhelm most? That’s not going to stop her, and as a result we readers get yet another fantastic story to add to this great series, really well written, full of great characters and with an exciting, and wonderfully fun (sometimes really funny), plot. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.
“Mage Shifter: Magical Creatures Academy: Book Three”
Ashta brings the readers right back into the amazing world of the Witching World Universe with her third installment, “Mage Shifter.” We are reunited with Rina Nelle Mont, a creature that shouldn’t exist…but yet does. Hunted for her magical abilities, it seems as if Rina will never be allowed to just be. She wants to be a normal nineteen year old mage shifter, but someone seems determined to make sure that never happens.
Ashta is able to bring about the suspension of disbelief in her readers with her wonderful writing. She allows for the transportation into a world that shouldn’t exist, yet readers wish with all their hearts that it does. Adding humor and love into the mix, and Ashta provides a great addition to her Witching World Universe.
A few things:
The Romance. Watching Rina and Leander fall in love has been a great addition to the story. The second son of the elven king falling in love with a mere human who has lost her shifter magic..yes. Just yes to all of that.
The Plot. It was so well done. I enjoyed watching what was going to happen…oh, and the fact that Rina is able to handle herself and fight for herself. That just added so much more. We need more badass females who don’t rely on men to make it all happen. Great job!
The Writing. Ashta’s writing style is engaging and enjoyable. She kept the pages turning and kept my nose in the book, even while making dinner (because kids need to eat apparently). I wasn’t able to put it down once I started it and I loved every minute of it.
I appreciate the way Ashta ended the book…with just enough of an ending to leave it still open for more (please add more…seriously, I need it!). All in all, a wonderful read. Make sure to read the other Magical Creature Academy books first, “Night Shifter” and “Lion Shifter” and then delve into the rest of Ashta’s books only to surface in a month to wonder why there isn’t more…
Wowzaaaa! This book got off to a very romantic start! It made me fall in love with Leander. He’s so sweet. But when school started for the magical creatures, it was nonstop action. Something was wonky with the protection spell on the Magical Creatures Academy and no one seemed to be able to figure out what was going on let alone how to fix it. So many mishaps were almost comical if it weren’t so serious. Then Rina gets kidnapped along with her friends, Jas and Wren. Rina had so many complications to figure out. Plus she was up against two very experienced dark sorcerers. All Rina could do was to go with her gut feelings to create an escape for her and her friends. Such an exciting twist! This was such a wonderfully written magical mystery story that only Ms Ashta could create and write. I love, love, loved it!
ONE BEAUTIFUL JOURNEY!!!
Oh fudge nuggets! This series is so freaking awesome, I’m at a loss for words. Never fear, I’ll find ’em. This gem hooks you from the start and reels you in for the duration. Trials and tribulations keep you on a razors edge continuously pushing forward. There’s foes to fight, enemies to conquer and people to save, just another day in paradise. The drama, danger and suspense propels this jewel to life seemlessly. Spinning this multi-layer plot, Lucia lays it out scene by scene in colorful detail there’s no trouble interpreting each scenario. You have strong personality based characters that blend and play off one another perfectly. The scenes are vivid and so descriptive, you get so caught up in it you’re not sure if it’s real or imaginative. Wonderful job Lucia, thanks for sharing this little guy with us.
I’m new to Lucia Ashta and I can’t recommend her highly enough! This entire Magical Creatures Academy series has been a nail biter and a thrilling read. You need to start with her first book in this series, Night Shifter to get the full effect of the trials and tribulations Rina has to face in this magical world. This is a fun read with a great character development. I highly recommend this entire series by Lucia Ashta.
Rina is starting her third term at the academy, and all sorts of weird things start to happen inside the school. Will Rina and her friends and family be able to figure out what is going on and stop if before it gets any worse?
This book is action packed and will keep you on the edge of your seat from the beginning to the end. You will not be wanting to put it down until the very end. I loved everything about it and am excited for what comes next
