Lennon Carter first saw my face with his hand around my throat.Shock widened his eyes, starbursts of anger for what I’d done. That moment should have been the last of us; our beginning and end. Fate, it seems, had other plans.A dedicated musician, Lennon would become my mentor, my shadow, my protector and nightmare. We were two discordant notes that somehow blended with perfect harmony.Challenged … with perfect harmony.
Challenged to become a pianist as talented as him, I became Lennon’s SIN, while he became my DISCIPLINE.

I love Lily White’s writing and how she draws you in and never lets you go. This story had me glued to the pages from the start. My heart broke for both Amelia and Lennon. Their pain bled through the pages. They were each other’s escape and hope. I loved their interactions. I loved how their lives interconnected and how it played such an important part is helping free them both. Around every corner was another turn of events that held me captivated to the story. It’s beautiful and heartfelt.
I especially enjoyed the introductory sentences that started each chapter and the relevance they gave to the story. A brilliant touch added to this amazing story.
***5 ‘Firebird’ Stars***
Once I started this book, I didn’t want to put it down.
Not that it was a surprise, I mean, Lily White writing dark/taboo romance (or anything really) is pretty much my cat nip, but this one. This one hit all the right buttons. It’s dark, smexy and edgy, but it’s also sweet, swoon worthy and heartbreaking as well and the twists and turns…all of that together just made for one hell of an emotional rollercoaster of ride that I didn’t want to get off of.
‘The Ending To My Song Had Been The Beginning Of The Music We Played Together’
Lennon and Amelia got their hooks into me from the very beginning and as their story progressed I fell more and more in love with both of them. Lennon presents himself as an accomplished pianist who enjoys the nicer things in life, but looks at fame in a blase sort of way ~ and in some respects that is true ~ but what lurks beneath the surface is something darker than most would ever guess. He has demons and a need to dominate that rides him hard on a daily basis. But even with the darkness in him, there is a truly compassionate and honorable heart that beats within. Amelia is a young woman with a bruised soul and heart. She is a melange of impetuous and cautious, determined and submissive and it made her absolutely fascinating to experience because her reactions and choices weren’t always ones I expected, but the repercussions of those always brought about a change in her that made her stronger.
The first time they collide is definitely NOT the definition of a ‘meet-cute’ but it does set the tone for the dark, chaotic, smexy yet crazily sweet and heartfelt journey Lennon and Amelia end up on. The mass majority of the time the angst between them is quite high, but through that and the music, the connection they have becomes stronger and that they themselves also start to grow and become more. There are a ton of road blocks in this one, and to be perfectly honest the whole mentor/student age gap issue is one of the minor ones, so nothing goes as one would think and that big, huge pile up of crazy was a twist I didn’t see coming ~ it was heartbreaking but at the same time it was the start of putting the broken pieces back together. And though I wouldn’t have minded a little more grovelling (It’s just a me thing) I loved where Lennon and Amelia ended up.
Addicting. Plain and simple this book, Lennon and Amelia and all the chaos surrounding them was simply addicting and those little, and big, twists just did it for me. And then there is the music. While I’m a music junkie, classical isn’t one that I dive into on a daily basis, but I do know some pieces as well a good number of the more popular composers and I did search them out and listen as I read and I have to say, they definitely help to set and elevate the tone of the story ~ especially the piece by Stravinsky ~ so total props to the author for the selection. As stated at the beginning, this is a dark read, so go into it knowing that there will be things that may be triggers for you. While much of the focus is on Lennon and Amelia, I really liked the supporting cast of characters ~ Dizzy was awesome and I wouldn’t mind it if we saw Ben again at some point in the future…just sayin’.
