Mason Buchanan was gorgeous, brilliant, strong, and a bit of a sociopath. Being raised by a tyrannical father and neglectful mother, Mason failed to learn the things that made us all humans…compassion, sympathy, and understanding. All his life, he’s had only three people he’s ever gave a damn about; his brothers, Aiden, Gabriel, and Michael. But then his freshman year at college his eyes … collided with a short, hazel-eyed brunette, and his world was changed forever. Three years later, he’s forced to finally show his hand, and nothing was going to stop him from making Shane Slaughter his.
Shane Slaughter was raised in foster care, so when she was accepted into one of the most prestigious colleges in the country, she vowed to spend every waking moment studying hard, and making her dreams come true. Never wanting to be homeless again, Shane’s only goal was to get her degree and land a good supporting job. Blaineview was everything she had expected it to be, except for one thing; Mason Buchanan. She’ll never forget the first time she saw him, and she’ll never forget the way he had made her feel. The way he still makes her feel.
What happens when Mason’s told he can’t have Shane? Everything…everything happens.

3.5 Stars! The idea of a tight-knit group of brothers with a whole lot of alpha protectiveness and possessiveness is what drew me to this book by M.E. Clayton. It was a quick, but enjoyable read.
Summary:
With his good looks, smarts, and money, Mason Buchanan draws a lot of attention. Not that he cares. In all of his life, he’s only cared about three people; his brothers Aiden, Gabriel, and Michael. Living under the thumb of a tyrannical father and neglectful mother has left him without the knowledge of basic human kindnesses like sympathy, compassion, and understanding. In fact, he’s a bit of a sociopath. And that’s not good for anybody. Least of which is Shane Slaughter because the moment their eyes meet, Mason’s world changes forever, carrying Shane along with him. Shane has made promises to herself and she refuses to break any. After spending her life in foster care, she will make certain sure that her dreams come true. The first step is keeping her entire focus on work and studying hard at one of the most prestigious schools in the country. It’s everything she knew it would be and more. Except for the existence of Mason Buchanan. Mason makes Shane feel things she never thought she would at that stage in her life. But he’s intense. And when he focuses that cold intensity on her, Shane’s life changes in the blink of an eye.
This was a very fast read. I’ve read a couple of M.E. Clayton’s books before this, and so far, all of her books seem a pretty easy and quick read. They are also full of drama, which I seem to be in the mood for right now. Shane was a great heroine. Coming from the childhood she did, I loved her focus and determination to make a better life for herself. It broke my heart that she tried to make herself invisible as much as possible because she was someone worth getting to know. Given the chance, she was kind, caring, loyal, and had a bit of sass thrown in for good measure. Mason was OTT for real. His obsession with Shane was intense and all-consuming, but it was also kind of sweet (in a hey-you’re-crazy kind of way). I loved his close relationship with his brothers. I had a bit of an issue with his actions, or lack thereof, at one point, but he redeemed himself. Together, their relationship progressed fast. But what else do you expect from an obsessed alpha male? They had some really steamy moments that could be hot. I did feel there were a few elements to that part of their relationship that I didn’t think fit them or the situation. It just had me frowning a bit while reading. I also would have liked to have seen more growth with them as a couple. It progressed so quickly, that there wasn’t really time to flesh out certain things or even watch the two of them learn about each other. Overall, this was a nice little breather read. The drama wasn’t anything too heart-shaking, but it kept me entertained. I loved getting to know the brothers and am looking forward to their stories. I’m a little confused on the subject of their mother, though, so I’m hoping that is addressed in further books. I liked If You Could Only See, but do think it could have been a lot more. That said, I enjoyed it for the easy read and breather from more intense and involved books that it was.
