Fact 752 – Karma was a vindictive wench, and Luck, no lady. Allie never believed in Karma, but after the week she’d had, she was prone to believe that if such an entity existed, it had to be a woman. Only a woman could hold such an ugly, nasty grudge, and make Allie’s life so impossibly miserable. If spying for the enemy and a broken heart wasn’t enough, someone had even stolen her favorite … her favorite heels. Classy, right? Bad luck strikes again.
Fact 689 – Southern girls were supposed to be graceful losers.
Spying for Sloven wasn’t the plan, but every attempt she made to escape his clutches only entrenched her deeper into a war Allie never wanted to be part of. Good thing her mama taught her how to fight dirty. Allie would play his game, and do the one thing he didn’t think possible. She’d win.
Fact 521 – Never play a player, or in this case, a southern belle.
It was just one compromise…

Ok, a quick “Cliff’s Notes” review: I loved Frost Kay’s Mixologists and Pirates serial and have no doubt that anyone will too. I read Amber Vial (separately reviewed) a while ago and loved it. My only complaint was that I finished it too quickly and then had to wait. I solved that by reading the remaining episodes of this serial, Emerald Bane, Scarlet Venom, Cyan Toxin, Onyx Elixir and Indigo Alley (Parts 2-6), all at once. It worked perfectly for me as each episode is a pretty quick read so in total these work our to be the equivalent of one long book. And a totally fun book it was indeed. Superbly written, with a great overarching plot, a wonderful lead in Allie Sai (just the sort of kick-a** heroine I adore), a perfect cast from Allie and Blade on down, perfect world-building and, at the end, a great last episode HEA. Definitely recommended.
I love this series so much that I just can’t get enough! My only complaint is that I was so engrossed in Onyx Elixir that I wasn’t ready for it to end and it’s a real cliffhanger of an ending! I want more right now! According to Amazon, this is a 6 book series, but I can’t figure out how all the loose ends are going to tie up when these books are so short! I also wonder about Jer. She’s been there from the beginning, but there’s more to her than what she’s telling Allie.
I received an ARC. This is my honest and voluntary review.
As an advanced reader of this new and upcoming book I am giving my honest review.
Argh….. I can’t even begin. This series has been amazing. Edge of your seat the whole way. Every character is enchanting in their own way and you just want to keep reading to see what happens to each and every one of them. I want to just bundle all of these books into one long book and have a good long read.
Frost has become one of my top five authors and I’m continuing to add all of her books to my collection. Holding my breath till the next installment comes out.
Again with the crazy cliff hanger.. I don’t know it my heart can take much more of this.
I will say this book wasn’t as, punch gut exciting as the last, but it was still entertaining as hell, and in all, it was a nice build up for that ending and a heart clutching set up for the next book. As this book is short I’m not going to give anything away. Just know this is part of a continuation plot and timeline, so the other books are a must read to understand what’s going on in this one. Also they are all just wickedly good, so there’s that.
So yeah, this book is a must read, this series is a must read, so please take my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval, that you need this series in your life.
Happy Reading.

Another exceptional story to add to this series! It’s fun and exciting, and each story gets better and better!
Whatever Slovan did to Allie…it keeps spreading. The team has yet to find a cure yet, and the stress is getting to them all. Allie doesn’t want to die, but if Slovan is the only one who knows/has the cure…what does that mean for her? He’s already told her what he wants…a spy. And what Slovan wants…he usually gets. One way or another. Can Allie and her friends outsmart him? Or is it soon going to be game over?
Onyx Elixer is another intense addition to Frost Kay’s series. I devoured this book and couldn’t get enough. The story starts off intense and then takes a surprising twist. Of course, the author is going to throw something at the reader that we don’t see coming! I appreciate the fact that Allie is…in a sense mellowing a bit. She’s letting go of her massive grudge and…for me…being a bit more reasonable. I have to say that I was thrilled when the author throws us a bone concerning the romance angle but…that twisted cliffhanger!!!!
I have to admit that I have LESS to complain about concerning this book. Like I said, Allie mellows out quite a bit. But let me just say this…THAT CLIFFHANGER!!! Come on!!! I need the next book like…now. Like right now right now. LOL! OMG! The waiting that is to come! Oy!
I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. If you have read the series to this point…grab this book, but don’t say I didn’t warn you about the twisted cliffhanger. Enjoy!
“Women are meant to serve.” That seems to be the mantra for Allie’s life. What is so special about her that everybody, from the villainous king Sloven to her (supposed) friends, seem to be tearing her in several different directions? Is there anybody she can trust on this alien planet?
This (very) short book picks up right where Book 4 left off. Allie is suffering PTSD from her encounter with the evil Sloven, but she just can’t seem to get a break from the betrayal, abuse, and trauma that keeps coming her way. The one thing that keeps her going is her Mama’s voice saying, “You’re stronger than you know, baby girl. You can do anything you set your mind to.”
This is a very entertaining series with lots of great characters to love and hate, but I find that the time between releases of these very short books necessitates me rereading at least part of the previous book in order to remember what happened. There are a lot of characters to keep track of and it feels like the story is often rushed without enough time for the reader to get to know them.
I look forward to continuing the series, but these cliffhangers are starting to wear me out!
I really enjoyed reading this book. Allie Sai is not on a new adventure where anything could happen, with unexpected twists and turns along the way. If you enjoy sci-fi fantasy literature, you will feel at home reading this book. That being said, I recommend you start with the first book in the Mixologists and Pirates book, so you don’t miss out on a thing in this series!
I love this newest installment in the Mixologists and Pirates series! The twists and turns kept me on my toes and I love how things are finally starting to develop with Blade. Allie is an amazingly strong character who has been through so much, but she keeps getting stronger throughout everything. I look forward to the next installment.
Wow, Allie just can’t catch a break, just when you think things are finally going her way, bam, think again!!! This series is addictive! If your not reading it, you need to start, Now!! And let.me tell you, the ending makes me want to scream!
Overall rating 4.7
So the twists just keep coming and this series totally needs a warning label for suspenseful abuse overload! This main character can’t ever catch a break…ever…at all…nada! She may or may not have an ally in Blade, who may or may not possibly help alleviate apparently insurmountable odds. I am officially hooked into this series though, so I have to google cliffhangers anonymous. The pain is sweet fellow readers so be warned! Make sure you don’t read this series next to anything breakable or irreplaceable, you may feel like throwing something when you reach the end. All my reviews are always voluntarily written.
