NOW A NATIONAL BESTSELLER The return of the cutting-edge thriller series Net Force, created by Tom Clancy and Steve Pieczenik and written by Jerome Preisler. The number one threat to our nation’s security is in cyberspace. The new US president wants to tackle the urgent problem head-on and launches a top secret line of defense: Net Force. But before the organization can be announced, the … announced, the country is hit by an unprecedented, two-pronged terror attack.
Not yet empowered by Congress nor embraced by a dubious intelligence community, still untested, unproven and officially unnamed, Net Force’s elite group of cyber experts and field operatives must lead the fight against the ongoing waves of hacks while tracking down the mastermind. Their failure could mean global catastrophe. Success may lead them to become the highest-level security agency in the United States.
A story that seems ripped from tomorrow’s headlines, Net Force: Dark Web relaunches one of the most prescient thriller series at a time when cybersecurity is more vital than ever.

Very. good series of books to read by clancy
Zero action. Real snoozer!!! Stopped reading after 2 chapters and deleted!!
Good look at our cyber future!
Here’s the thing, if you Google the meaning of thriller, the result is “a novel, play, or movie with an exciting plot, typically involving crime or espionage.” If you read further, you’ll see things about putting a reader or viewer on the edge of their seat. Net Force: Dark Web has the crime or espionage part of that, but the exciting plot or edge of my seat storyline? Not so much. The blurb sounds exciting, and I was certainly hoping for an edge of my seat read, but this book was the complete opposite for me. It’s about 700 pages of way too easy to put down and even harder to pick back up. Only sheer determination and a bit of OCD about finishing things kept me pushing through to the end. The story is snail’s pace slow, tedious, and wordy. There are numerous characters and subplots to keep track of, and we meet those characters in info dump like fashion. Those things combined made it hard to get invested in any of it. It’s been a long time since I read anything by Tom Clancy, but I don’t remember having this much trouble with those books. Maybe my tastes have changed, or maybe this one just isn’t for me. Either way, this one came up sorely lacking, and this is one Clancy world that I won’t be revisiting.
Net Force: Dark Web, created by Tom Clancy and written by Jerome Preisler, is a technothriller set in the year 2023. Terrorists have figured out how to use unprotected smart products to commit their acts of terror against the United States. The president, foreseeing this inevitability, has been trying to form Net Force, a cabinet-level security force that uses the most advanced technology to protect us from such attacks. On the day and in the place that the president is announcing this new security force, an attack hits New York throwing the city into chaos and leaving little doubt to the necessity of the Net Force.
Favorite character :
Kali Alcazar the Outlier – she is a very complex character whose loyalties are always in question. She is smart, no-nonsense, and able to take down large bodyguards in a single blow…okay, that a little bit of an exaggeration, but she did take down a large bodyguard. Most importantly, she makes the right choices in hard situations.
What I Like About Net Force Dark Web
It is exceptionally well written. The dialogue flows naturally. There is just the right balance of dialogue and exposition, enabling the reader to maintain a fast pace. The flow from various parts of the story is logical and easy to follow. And, the story stays focused.
The story contains lots of near misses that keep you guessing and the pages flipping. This is an essential attribute for the genre and because the novel is so long. I was grateful that even though the book is pretty weighty in size, it’s still a compelling read, and I didn’t feel like I was reading over 700 pages.
The story is about technology, so there is lots of tech jargon. Fortunately, it is written in such a way that it is easy to understand. And, the technology in the story definitely adds a cool factor.
The topic of the story is timely. With all that is going on in the news lately, like concerns over other countries interfering in US elections by using the internet, readers can easily connect to this story and recognize the potential of it.
What I Wish About Net Force Dark Web
I wish the ending had been more conclusive. It ends on a ”to be continued” note, and I would have loved to have a few of the storylines wrapped up for the current story. I don’t want to say too much about this because I don’t want to reveal any spoilers.
To Read or Not to Read
Net Force Dark Web is an excellent read for people who like technothrillers or just thrillers in general. It was recommended to me because I love Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime, and I think that was a pretty accurate recommendation.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
In a time when cyber security is at risk and notices of hacks are world wide we get a book by these authors. I got this book because I saw the authors and just knew I would love the book. Fr some reason I had a hard time getting into it. I mean I love the thrills and chills, the hunt, the twist, but there are so many sub characters who are important to the story that I kept getting lost. There is a ton of action and little details which need to be tracked to stay on top of it all but it was almost overwhelming. It is a slow start but that’s also because everything is being set up and put in place for what comes next. Just make it through that and you’l be ready for the rest. It’s a good read so don’t get me wrong and it’s most definitely a read worth the time and brain power to get through it but you might need to make some notes. Either way there’s no denying the story is well written and researched from these authors that do spy stories that keep the blood pumping and overcome all the obstacles.
I was really excited to see this story available from HQN for review. I’d been reading a lot of romance lately and needed a break. I thought this thriller would be it, unfortunately it was not. I couldn’t really get into the story. It was confusing at times, with all the subplots and characters. I’d have to keep going back to find out which characters were with what subplot. You’re lead through so many dark alleys, countries, and streets in each different one that I felt I should have made a map of the characters. The story gets convoluted and the characters get murky after a while.
I should have stopped reading it when I realized the headache it was going to induce with the different stories all trying to coalesce into one. I was told many times when I would have to stop reading, that I should DNF but I didn’t, I stuck through to the very end and I was not happy with the ending either. It just ends. You read just over 700 pages (YES 704 pages per Amazon!) and the story just stops, but there’s really no ending. I won’t be reading any more of this series, it’s just not for me. There’s little character development and it takes entirely too long for the story to pick up the pace. With so many subplots and characters that was brought in, I don’t think there’s anyway to do the story justice. And the story could be a good one. With today’s society, everything from the microchips in our pets, to our mobile devices, to our debit/credit cards, everything is attached to the web. If something bad gets in, it could knock everything out. This book goes through that possibility.
This book is set a couple years into the future, and there’s a lot of technical aspects to it. I would suggest this book to someone who normally reads international thrillers heavy with technology. If you’re looking for a nice, relaxing, take your mind off of work read, this 704 page behemoth of a story might not be for you.
** I received an ARC of this story and this is my honest review
I was fortunate to receive an advance copy of this novel. It is an amazing read by a very talented author.
