Wow…..heartbreaking, terrifying and mystifying. I loved this book from the very start right up to the end. Alex Lake takes you on a wild ride in this heart-stopping thriller that will leave you with chills.
Intense. Twisted. Riveting. Suspenseful. Addictive. Dark. The characters are complex, heartwarming and so realistic that it is easy to become invested in their plight. This book took me on an emotional roller coaster, and I LOVED every single minute of it. Lake just KNOWS how to write a story that penetrates into the deepest recesses of your heart and permeates into your very soul. I’m an instant fan!
Couldn’t put it down!!
I started this book hoping it wouldn’t be too much like “Room”, and I wasn’t disappointed. For although there was a similar theme, I enjoyed each and felt that they were distinct. Excellent thriller that kept me wanting more!
Seven Days begins just about as the tragic saga of Maggie and her son Max is about to end this way or the other. If Maggie doesn’t stand in her kidnapper’s way, in seven days the man will take away her 3-year old son and she will never see Max again. It happened before. Twice.
There is a huge amount of tension in those seven days as Maggie contrives ways of escape, tries and fails. I cringed at the man’s cruel punishments and the utter hopelessness of Maggie’s situation.
But this book isn’t just about the seven days of savagery. The reader learns about Maggie’s past, gets to know her family: her parents and her brother James suffering the consequences of her disappearance, some of them in ways leading to self-harm. The identity of the kidnapper and his links to the family are also revealed early on in the story. The background knowledge of all the characters going back twelve years contributes to the reader building relationships with them. The most acutely felt relationship is with Maggie and her beautiful, happy and charming little boy.
As the action moves towards its final dénouement, the reader is gripped by the throat: physically and emotionally. Once I reached that point I couldn’t put down my kindle. An emotionally charged 7-day read!
Already wrote a review and gave it a 4.5. Compelling read.
Loved this book. Couldn’t put it down!
An absolutely tragic story which turned my stomach by the end of the story. This woman somehow managed to endure and survive 10 years of being held captive and abused in every possible way by a depraved madman was mindboggling. And the children…
Although it was a fictional read I cannot fathom how this author’s imagination could plot out a story of such complex deprivation.
Loved this book. Parts were heart breaking and parts were heart stopping. Read it in two sittings in one day. I could not put it down. You learn who the villain is early on but that takes nothing away from the suspense…just adds to it.
Loved this book! Suspenseful and hard to put it down!
Another great book by Alex Lake. I could not put this one down either, I am hooked on his books!

MY REVIEW
The story line was totally great. It was how it was wrote that was the problem. Jumping from past to present and being told from all of the characters. I have never read anything like it and hope never to again. It was very confusing and extends out over a 10 year period.
Being told from the view point of every character made for a whole bunch of things being repeated. That become annoying very fast. There was also so many unbelievable parts throughout the whole book. This could have been such a great book had it been wrote different. I had to get out a notebook and by the end of the book I had used half of my notebook . Even then i was still confused at times. The only reason i finished this book was because i wanted to know what happened to Maggie and her 3 year old son Max. I have always loved everything this author wrote but this was a confusing crazy mess. It left me unsatisfied and with many things unanswered.
Great book
So while walking to her cousin’s house fifteen-year-old Maggie is kidnapped and kept locked in a basement.
Her kidnapper has no name just the man, he gets her pregnant allowing her to keep her child until there third birthday when he then removes them from her care.
Maggie’s third son Leo is approaching his third birthday and she knows if she doesn’t find a way to free them both history will again repeat.
So this recounts back from when Maggie is first abducted all the way up to the present day flipping back and forth between the two timeframes.
It was told from numerous Pov’s so you really get a sense of where everyone is at.
This also showcased the aftermath and overall effect on maggies, immediate family, after she is taken and it was truly heartbreaking to realise just how near she was all this time.
All the small undetected clues that were screaming out but were undiscovered so sad.
I didn’t enjoy this quite as much as my previous read by this author but it was still a solid offering.
slightly farfetched at times and I felt it did go on a bit too long and could have done with some condensing, Still, this was a suspenseful thriller that I did enjoy.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of Seven Days.
