The Five is a totally unexpected twisted tale that pushes boundaries and challenges the mind. What is happening? The story follows the sad and tragic life of Rainey, a girl that has been abused her entire life. Nothing changes when she moves into a new neighborhood, she is victimized all over again at the hands of the family next door. How much can a person be degraded before things change? This book is raw, emotional, dark, suspenseful, intriguing and leaves you wanting more. Deception, sex, drugs, violence and exploitation all play parts in the cautionary story. The struggle between right and wrong, and the things we do for someone we love. The Five is astonishing and left me completely breathless. Lily White’s writing is creative and thrilling. I highly recommend if you love dark romantic suspense.
The Queen of dark and mindf§§§ery has excelled herself with this book. Grabbed from the first page and reeled into the story slowly but surely, it never lets you go till the end.
Dark romance at its best, full of love, lies, deception, abuse and manipulation and a plot you will never guess.
A must read for lovers of Dark books just be aware there are triggers galore but, oh,it’s delicious. 5****
I really don’t think that I have the words to do this book justice. From the first page till the last I was held in its grip. Rainey Summer Day. What a name, what a girl, what a story! This girl’s life would have brought most people to their knees. She never knew anything in her life but having her body used by men. So she began to see her body as a commodity. When she is the lone survivor in a massacre Justin is sent in to evaluate her. Is she a victim or a killer? Told in alternating points of view from Rainey and Justin, the story goes back and forth in time between the present and the years leading up to the murders. Go into this blind. This book is best read without any spoilers. I have to say that this is my new favorite book by this author.
What could possibly go wrong with moving into Clayton Heights, living next door to the Connor family of four brothers and their dad? Rainey Summer Day, yup that’s her name! Her momma must have hated her from the beginning of time to give her a name like that in this lifetime. The Five will stick with you longer than five minutes, days, weeks or even months!
Holy mother of dragons!
Intense, suspenseful and haunting, this story sucked me in and before I knew it, it was the end!!
Flawlessly written, the author kept me on the edge of my seat wondering where the story was heading and “whodunnit.”
Mind frackery at its best!!
Twisted, and unpredictable, Rainey’s story is heart wrenching and emotional. As her story unfolded, I thought the story was going in one direction, only for it to go in another one.
Thought provoking and emotional, as Rainey’s circumstances are dissected and analyzed, it made me wonder about her means to an end mentality.
Is she a victim or the perpetrator?
Nothing is what it appears which made the story more exciting and more appealing to me.
An amazing story of love, loss and the pursuit of justice!
The Five. This story works itself into your head.
You crave to read more. You cry with the words that cause heartbreak.
You want to exact justice. Poor poor Rainey.
With limited choices, and a vulnerability that tears you apart you want her to have a life, better than this one.
Justin. There to access whether she is responsible for any of bad things that have happened.
We follow the story and learn the truth and life of Rainey Summer Day.
We learn about Rowan. How he was the only one to love Rainey.
Your heart will break. Your anger will overflow. You will want justice.
This is a must read book.

Where to begin with this one??
I know it’s a common thought when finishing a book and starting on a review, but this is one of those books that you actually have to put the words “where to begin…” out there in black and white because there are so many starting points and yet none of them feel right…especially when this is a book that needs to be delved into as blindly as possible…So, here goes nothing.
Rainey absolutely fascinated me on all levels. She is a unique character that is difficult to label and yet easy to understand, even if you don’t agree with her point of view. Justin is a good man, who is only human. He sees more than people think and yet isn’t as observant as he believes.
As for the romance, because there is romance in here, it comes out of a dark and gritty place that defies all logic and reason, but still makes perfect sense when everything is said and done.
Yes, this is an insanely vague review, but I did say you needed to go in blind because the author is going to take you on one hell of a ride, so buckle up!
Note: There are triggers…many, many triggers, so beware.

I’ve read everything published by Lily White and this is my favorite by her!!! Rainey is unlike any character we’ve seen from White. The definition of a white trash slut, Rainey will literally do anything (and anyone) for drugs. Rainey was created by the Queen of mind fuckery though, so she is even more than what she initially seems…
I was sucked into this story from page 1 and did not want to stop reading until I finished! THE FIVE was so not only sexy and entertaining but suspenseful and intriguing, causing me to constantly wonder how the story would play out and who had committed the crimes. Nothing was predictable and in the end, I was completely shocked!!!! I absolutely loved this sick, twisted, beautiful romance!!!!
Holy heck! How do you even begin to review a book like this? I’ve read a lot of books and many of them have been dark and disturbing, but his one…just, holy heck! Every book I’ve read by this author surprises me and I swore I wasn’t going to let her twist me up this time around. Uh, I’m the fool. She got me. Again.
First, let me say to try to avoid any reviews that go into a lot of detail about this story. The way it slowly opens up and reveals itself is part of the overall experience that you won’t want to miss. It’s written from two different points of view. Justin, the victim advocate who has been assigned to determine if the woman who he’s interviewing is capable of the crimes the police are investigating, and Rainey who is the sole survivor of a “rampage style murder” where four people were bludgeoned to death.
While the weight of this book rests on Rainey’s past, she was broken long before her story actually begins here. You may find yourself empathizing with her. You may cry. You may sneer. You may judge. However, through it all…you will feel.
This is a dark story on the lighter side but with many disturbing scenes and actions. It is not a safe read. It has triggers galore. And if you can handle that, you’re in for the ride of your life.
Dual POV
“Love is pain. It doesn’t matter who you are, where you come from, how you live or what you live for; to love another person is to become them. And I don’t mean that in a figurative sense; it’s literal. To love another person is to slip beneath their skin. If they hurt, so do you. If someone attacks them, you’ve been attacked as well. If they are drowning, your head is being dragged under water right beside them. And if they die, you might as well start digging your own grave because a part of you belongs to the ground.”
Rainey Summer Day is only 22, but she has endured more anguish and despair than most people experience in their entire lives. She is surrounded by sex, drugs, poverty, maliciousness, and death. She is the lone survivor after four of her friends are found brutally murdered after a night of partying. Justin, a psychologist assigned to the case, is meant to assess Rainey to discover if she could be the killer. Or is someone after the alluring Rainey Day?
Rainey leads Justin through the events of her life after moving to Clayton Heights at 17. Follow Rainey’s story as she takes you through a sick and twisted tail that will have you turning the page wondering what the fuck could possibly happen next.
This book is not meant for the faint of heart. The Five is depravity at it’s finest. It’s a dark, suspenseful romance filled with heartbreak and pain. But damn, if it isn’t addictive. As always Lily, bravo! I cannot wait to see what you come up with next
Goodness Gracious where Lily White comes up with the stories for her books, is down-right a scary thought!!! Every book she writes, you find yourself cringing from beginning to end.
Rainey has had the most unusual life! In her short time of living, everyone who surrounds her ends up dead. I’m not saying that each and every one who has died, didn’t deserve what happened. The abuse this young lady went through is enough to warrant each of her abusers a rightful death.
Living in the little town she does, no one survives. Full of drug dealers, bikers, thugs, and such. Police presence is non-existent. Crimes are committed, murders happen, yet every crime gets chalked up as another unsolved case.
Justin is the psychologist who is assigned to find out, is Rainey capable of committing all these deaths? As Rainey replays her story from the day her and her mother moved into the neighborhood until the day she was brought in for questioning. It’s not an easy story to read, that’s for sure!
As the plot unfolds and the truth is revealed, secrets that no one expected are uncovered.
An absolute page turner right from the get go! Lily White amazed me with this twisted love story. She has spun the perfect web for this unstoppable story!!!

Oh my goodness, this was a good book! It was dark and disturbing, yes…. it was suspenseful… it kept you guessing and flipping pages to figure out what was going on! Your heart will break for poor Rainey, as you agree with Rowan that “she’s better than that. ” Poor Rainey’s main objective in life is just to escape, by any means possible. Poor Rowan fell in love with Rainey at first sight, only to realize that she didn’t see him that way, and she was always willing to let men use and abuse her. If you’ve ever read Lily White before, you won’t be surprised to hear me tell you this isn’t a story full of rainbows and unicorns. It’s dark, depraved, sad and heartbreaking. But it’s also captivating and spellbinding, it won’t let you stop reading until you’ve flipped that last page and learned all the secrets! It’s well worth the read, definitely 5 stars!
Wow, Oh Wow, Oh WOW. I devoured, absolutely DEVOURED this book.
Lily White has served us up a wicked, sinful, deviously delightfully story.
We meet Rainey, a simple woman who is being interviewed by Justin, a victims advocate told in dual POV. We are taken back to the beginning of just how Rainey became the sole survivor of a brutal slaying. This is a slow burn of a read and there are many layers that need to get peeled back and we are lucky enough to get a front row seat to the life of Rainey.
This is where I was in life. Just like Rowan had said. A toy that men fucked. A party favor. An entertainment and nothing else.
To say the least this is Erotica at its finest. It’s super hot, the sex is sinful and debasing (just how I like my books) but Rainey’s has so many triggers so if you can put them aside then sit down, buckle up and get ready for a roller coaster of a ride.
I have read all of Ms White’s books and this is by far my most favourite of her standalone stories
DAAAAAAAAAAAAMN! I inhaled this book. INHALED! Lily White knocked this fucker out of the park! The Five is going on my favorites list!
“Give me something, Ms. Day. How were all your friends brutalized, and yet you lived to tell the tale?”
A tale it was. Cleverly written in an ominous, mysterious, uncomfortable way. Now take a seat, Y’all, and prepare yourself for a dark, deeply depraved story like no other. I’d like to cuss all over this review to explain the shock on my face while reading. My jaw was on the dang floor. I’m like, whaaaaaaaaaaat in the hell did/am I reading right now. Edgy, extremely racy, unbelievably erotic. I was shaking my head feeling guilty. You know the feeling, glancing around making sure no one can see what you’re reading. HAHA!
I wish I could babble until the sun comes up, this story has too many sharp corners and I don’t want reveal any short cuts, if you know what I mean. True Lily White fashion, you will not know what to expect. No. NO. NO. Rainey’s journey is completely and utterly disturbing, nail biting, stomach turning. But, wait, you won’t want to stop. You’ll be flipping the pages in twisted wonder from start to finish. Let me tell you, it was all kinds of wrong.
A dark romance that will leave you speechless! Because, believe it or not, there’s a sadistically epic love story built in.
“The way we kissed was poetry, a love forged in fire, two heartbeats pulsing as one, defying the odds we’d overcome to end up here. It was messy, our love, but anything worth having is never drawn within established boundaries and neat ordinary lines.”
WOW! I’m speechless! This is why I love this author so much. You never ever know what’s going to happen. Do the characters love each other, do they hate each other? This author always keeps me on the edge of my seat. I believe I have read every book she had written. So many books are predictable, not this authors books though. This book captivated me from the beginning until the end. So many twists I never ever expected. Just wow! I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!
*Magic Beyond The Covers Book Blog*
I’ve been in a book slump for the past few days. I didn’t know what to read next. I need something unique, somewhat dark, twisted, and a little bit of a mindf*ck. This author was able to deliver this. The characters were layered. What you see wasn’t what you get… There were so many moving parts to the story. The stage was set. Only a few knew how the play was going to end.
First book I read from Lily White and it won’t be my last.
This book is not for the fainted of heart, so be aware and read it at your own risk! But that said, it was very well written.
You are thrown into the story and even if you want to get out, you just can’t. There is things that gets you to keep reading, to need more of it.
I don’t think I have been by so many emotion before when I read a book.
I cried because what happened to Rainey was not her fault. Some would say, she has done those things willingly but you need to understand how a person works and how her mind worked to get a better view.
I shouted at her, at some point, I thought « what a stupid girl » and then realised that’s the way she fonctions. It was so sad, heart wrenching reading over and over about her story. I wanted it to stop.
It was too much, how did she manage it?
I am proud of her, because with everything she has been through, she is still standing. She is strong.
Rowan was a sweet boy, he would do everything to help her in any way. I loved him straight away.
What he did for her is everything.
A promise is a promise…
I think I still can’t believe what I have read, it will take time, even days to recover.
That tell you how good this book was!
The end was just perfect, it came smoothly, and just has it should have been.
Gah!!! Lily White! Another amazingly written, dark and twisty story! You just never know what you’re going to get when you take that step into a Lily White story. She never ceases to amaze.
Goodness! Rainey’s journey was hard to read. It’s depressing, dangerous, savage. I wanted so much for her to find her way. Lily White leads us down a dark and hollow path. Is there light and happiness at the end of the tunnel for Rainey? Well, this is Lily White, so you never know…. But you definitely want to find out! Fantastic!
