I mistook him for a wild beast. Then he claimed me like one.Though I was sent to scan this planet for human life, its inhabitants seem more like beasts than men to me. But now I’ve crash landed, and one of them has decided to take me as his mate…He does not ask before he mounts me and he is far from gentle when he ruts me. But as this brute wrings one savage, screaming climax after another from … climax after another from my virgin body, I know it is not pain or fear that is compelling me to surrender myself to him so shamefully I may never stop blushing.
It is instinct.
Publisher’s Note: Instinct includes spankings and rough, intense sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don’t buy this book.

Tselia is went to observe a primitive planet as punishment for her sins. She crash lands on the planet and meets Zion. Zion is a leader of his people. The attraction between these two is instant and very hot. This story has spanking, captivity, anal and submission. I enjoyed this book.
Tselia gets to fly around space, but instead of being an exciting adventurous life as one would expect, it’s full of boredom and isolation. Living in a world where illness has been eliminated and the human lifespan can be extended to the point where individuals are immortal, many people have found life boring enough to be frozen, only to be unfrozen at an unknown later date. Very reminiscent of “A Brave New World,” Tselia knows no challenges, struggles or pain, and pleasures have dulled accordingly.
In an effort to escape boredom and feel connected with life again, she ends up crashing on an earth-like planet where an offshoot of humanity once landed in an effort to escape the tedium of paradise. Their existence is a brutal one, but not entirely without advancements. But they have been ingrained with a mistrust of anyone from the stars and their technology.
Her life is only spared when the leader is instantly enamored with her and wants to teach her how to live on his world in his culture. He is intense and animalistic, but not without intellect and a deeper understanding of things. He and Tselia both have a lot to learn from one another. Zion is able to understand that purpose that the barbaric aspects of his society serve, and Tselia can enlighten him on why their life style is not a punishment.
As a larger allegory for the pleasures people find in BDSM, Tselia discovers not only that pain enables her to recognize please, but that the pain increases that pleasure. There would be no pleasure without it.
But she has battles to fight on multiple fronts. Her being on the planet is not only a threat to her physical safety, but to those of the inhabitants as well. And there is the looming threat of the consequences that will likely be imposed on her if she is rescued by her tyrannical and rigid father.
This entertaining and enjoyable read offers a lot of D/s steam and asks some interesting intellectual questions. I liked the big differences between the worlds these characters came from and their ways of life. There is a whole lot of culture shock going on here. Add in drama, a bit of danger and plenty of intensity and this book will keep you reading past your bedtime.
I knew I would be getting an incredible romance with this one since it’s by Ms. Renard, but it was so much more than that.
All the feels! This story is full of adventure, dreams, hope, fear, trust, love and peace. It is also full of hot, passionate sexiness. Tselia is strong-willed and stubborn to the point of frustration. She is also not very good at following the rules, thinks she will never be good enough or find her place in the universe, and she is lonely. Zion is just as strong-willed and stubborn, knows his place in the universe, and he is more than a match for Tselia. Their romance is extra spicy and full of passionate moments. It is also not supposed to happen. They not only have to figure out how to make their relationship work, if that is what they want, and Tselia needs to figure out how to fit into his world; they also need to convince the Patron that it is the best solution to the dilemma they find themselves in.
This read is an emotional roller-coaster that I never wanted to get off of. There were moments that broke my heart and moments when I wanted to smack each of them. It’s a beautiful story told only the way Loki Renard can; with heat and believe-ability. It is definitely one I would recommend to anyone who loves the idea of space travel and steamy love stories.
-Minor Spoiler in Review-
I received an Advance Copy of this book and this would be the 2nd book I’ve read from Loki and I LOVED THIS!
Advanced Alien Girl ends up in a world that’s Cave Man Like, which for a slight spoiler? I guess, is one of her kind that separated itself from them to live like a human, so the ‘cave men people’ can speak ‘old’ (in the advanced kinds terms) but broken English.
I’m saying this to the peeps who get pissy when English is spoken in ‘old world’ books.
It was short-ish but compacted and I personally thought it was amazing. Right when it gets better it’s stops but to me it’s perfect, it’s a HEA but you get to dream the life she lived, im a sucker for those types. And won’t lie the epilogue brought tear to the eyes lol
Wonderful job, a recommended read for sure.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Wow – Loki sucks you into this story so easily with amazing descriptions of two polar opposite evolutionary paths. Then brings them together in her distinctive style!I
Love the characters and the storyline!
Stunning read!

Tselia is part of a branch of humans that are technologically advanced, some kept in stasis and others that are emotionally disconnected, disease free, have extended lives, no physical intimacy and no reproduction.
Tselia is sent into space on a solo, years long mission. She struggles in this world/society of hers and longs for more, her impulses lead her to crash onto the planet under her observation. Running from danger she is captured, taken, mated and claimed by Zion, who is dominant, sentinel, sexual, caring and an alpha. He will discipline her as he sees fit in order to make her fit into his tribe and bind with him.
Two people from a shared genetic line, divided by technology, society and time, can love, lust, chemistry and more be enough to keep them together? Or will her Patron/father demand she be removed and punished for her disobedience, and what will Zion do?
There will be lessons learned, relationships lost and found, sacrifices made, and futures changed. Will there be a HEA in the stars for these two, or just a black hole of loneliness and despair?
There was a lovely epilogue that made my eyes mist, warmed my heart and touched my soul!
I started this book and could not put it down until I read those most depressing words a reader must eventually come to “The End”.
Amazing story Ms. Renard!
I found Loki Renard’s latest book “Instinct” absolutely fascinating on a different level than any of her other novels. Writing a sci-fi romance is not new to her, but this one makes sweeping insight into the question of humanity. How do you define it? Live it? Embrace its tentaments? And who makes the rules?
Tselia is a solo space pioneer who is tasked with watching over a desolate planet and documenting activity. Tselia is being punished for being overly involved in her last mission, and soon finds the planet she’s watching is very much full of life. She thinks of these humanoids as primitive, perhaps devoid of proper communication and laws. When she is thrust into their lives unwillingly, she discovers just how wrong she is. I found the way Renard wrote Zion as a careful speaker interesting. He thinks before he speaks and limits what he says..I couldn’t help but think how progressive that is! How many times do we as a society say too much and get into trouble? Zion doesn’t live in his emotions like we do as human beings. So who is more evolved then?
There are disciplinary sessions where Tselia is frustrated with her progress within the tribe. You might think, this is a primitive activity to punish for essentially standing up for yourself. But is it? This tribe values consistency, working together and family. Perhaps they have lasted on This planet this long because they are strict to their moral code?
The scenes with Zion and Tselia smoke with chemistry. He is cool, calm and collected, and she questions her entire life. I see her questioning everything she knows, and what she wants. Loneliness is a not a merciful emotion. As “evolved” humans, has Tselia ‘s people forgotten their humanity? Their empathy for others? Their ability to see value in others that don’t share the same values?
Renard always sneaks something funny and unexpected in her stories. There is a scene where Tselia and Zion are face to face with her father, the leader, and Zion says things that will surprise you. I laughed, again thinking…look who has the upper hand just by thinking things through before acting?
I don’t know if Renard meant for Instinct to be a commentary on modern humanity, but that’s how I interpreted it. Well constructed and ridiculously compelling, the story will make you think.
Star Girl’s definite breach of protocol
—>>> Granted a second chance in the form of a new assignment in exile, explorer Tselia is busy rubbernecking a gloriously riveting and primitive display on her target foreign planet by humanoid inhabitants when her shuttle crashes on the surface – unauthorized! What happens next is most definitely a breach of protocol, but Tselia knows what she wants. The problem is, she knows it is only a matter of time before she has to leave one of the most fascinating worlds she has ever experienced…and Zion.
Another delicious sci-fi story for us to devour, plucked out of otherworldly fantasy material!
A good story, well told and an interesting setting and all the yummy things we expected by Loki.
Sometimes a simpler life can be as good or better than that with a high “meaning”.
I don’t know where she gets her ideas from, but she always manages to make them work with her dark erotic themes. This one is set 10,000 years in the future, where humans are so far removed from their instincts and desires that they are almost Androids – they’re pod people. When one crash lands on a planet inhabited by a lost civilization of humans . . . well let’s just say that poor girl gets in touch with her animal-instincts by going native. Alpha-dominated man taking care of his head-strong woman whether she wants to admit she needs his love or not, my idea of HEA.
Like all of Ms. Renard’s books, they are dark dark themes that include spanking and some not-so-consensual sex, so don’t read if that may offend.

Tselia is a force and so determined and so alone following orders always but rebellious at the same time and her Patron has had enough as curiousity gets to her she breaks the rules and ends up in Zions arms claiming her as his mate on this strange planet and they couldn’t be more different as Zion tries his hardest to tame her. This was such an interesting and sexy story and I loved the fight in the characters as they learn together all the rights and wrongs of the planet. Lots of punishment, laughs and Tselias smart mouth is truly worth it all as she realizes everything that she never even knew was missing. I loved it
I love Loki’s stories and Instinct is one of her best so far (I think I say that with each new book)
Tselia and Zion meet in the most unusual way and become quickly attracted to one another. Their relationship is tumultuous and erotic and very combustible.
I love how Tselia is conflicted with what she knows and how Zion makes her feel.
Instinct is a stand-alone, sci-fi romance with a few darker themes. Tselia is being punished and sent to the middle of nowhere in space to see if she can find any traces of human life that used to be on the planet, Hades Exile. She’s shocked that within hours, she finds live humanoid bodies on the planet, so she goes to investigate. But when her shuttle crashes, she finds herself within Zion’s clutches. She’s amazed by the bond she forms with him, but just as she starts to get comfortable with a brand new lifestyle, her past catches up to her. Can Tselia save the people she’s come to respect and even love?
Oh my! I was completely sucked into this story, right from the very beginning of the book, and literally did not put it down until the book was over. Tselia and Zion were everything gritty, instinctive, raw… coming from two completely different backgrounds led to some interesting arguments, imaginative punishments, but I loved their relationship, their dynamic, the way they opened each other’s eyes. Tselia never felt content with her life, always rebelling, always wanting more, trying to fill a void but couldn’t figure out how. Zion and Hades Exile fulfilled that yearning in ways she never could have imagined. Zion was overly dominant, understood the rules and way of life on his own planet, but knew as soon as he saw his star girl, she would be his and only his. I loved that Ms. Renard took the idea of instincts and went so much farther than I thought she would with the idea – imagining the hard things, trying to figure out what life might be missing if we were so technologically advanced. I was completely enthralled with this book, absolutely loved the ending, and just loved this untraditional romance!
Tselia has been sent to observe a planet that possibly possesses a primative human settlement as punishment for her overly curious nature. As a star pilot she is to only observe, but when she sees there is a possibly humans, it lures her into exploring futher. While observing from her craft, she crash lands on the planet. There she is taken captive by Zion the leader of the tribe, with him she learns about all the things that were missing in her own sterile world. A well written fast paced love story that will capture you in its web and draw you in. Absolutly loved it and so will you.
I loved this book. Imagine being born on a culture that there is no sex and the discipline is not physical. Now you crash onto a land that lives completely different than you. And instead of avoiding sex, (which is actually outlawed where you are from) the Alpha leader has decided to claim you and now you have lots of sex. The food you eat, the way you behave is all handled by this man and boy is he hot!!! I love the connection with the characters and all the details that help you understand the two worlds. Definitely recommend!!!
Amazingly twisty and erotic, a total MUST-READ!
Two of the greatest needs of man are to feel a sense of community/of belonging and for one’s life to have meaning or purpose. In a quest to meet these needs, author Loki Renard gives her readers Tselia. A space explorer who has advance DNA and a rebellious spirit which leads her down a troubled path to this, her last chance. I absolutely fell in love with her and her quest to meet those basic needs. Needs that she did not realize she had, yet with every opportunity rebelled against their loss or denial. In “INSTINCT”, Renard’s latest novel, the high-tech, advanced alien, Tselia, is a female who must submit to the large Alpha male leader of the village, Zion, who finds her crash site and takes her for his mate! Renard does an exceptional job of building a world with enough similarities that human survival is not a stretch, while she concurrently develops a bevy of simple yet anomalous cultural customs that require both the readers and Tselia to pay attention! Add to that the emotional response this reader has to Renard’s phenomenally descriptive prose, it comes as no surprise that Renard had me feeling what the characters felt, fearing what the characters feared, smelled and so on. It is little wonder that “INSTINCT” has earned a 5+STAR response from this reader/reviewer. Exceptionally well written, Renard’s “INSTINCT” offers readers a great place to escape the tribulations of real life for a few hours, and as such “INSTINCT” by Loki Renard should be your next romance purchase! I voluntarily read an advanced copy of “INSTINCT” and this is my voluntary review! Get your copy of “INSTINCT” today! Happy pages!
loki does it again!
I find the idea of finding life on other planets so intriguing! I was rooting for Zion and Tselia the entire time! But man did I want to B slap one of the other characters, so hard! Some ladies just done need to be so catty! I read it from start to finish because I just couldn’t put it down! Winner!
I loved it, very good, sexy and a HEA
