A historian in search of truth. A warlock charged to stop her.
In 1816, eighteen-year-old historian MARY BRYGHT is accosted by a terrifying magical villain who threatens to destroy her brother if he doesn’t reject his latest royal commission. Rushing home, she discovers that not only is she too late to stop her brother, but he’s left a letter begging her to assist him by recording the details … to assist him by recording the details of a three-centuries-old stunning secret event.
At his father’s death, HUGH RENFREW PRICE is yanked from his warlock apprenticeship by the Warlock Council and ordered to take up his father’s mantle as Earl of Flint. If attending boring House of Lords sessions to spy on human politicians wasn’t a bad enough chore, the Prince Regent then instructs Hugh to safeguard a human female on a mission the Warlock Council insists Hugh must sabotage. However, when he meets his delightful charge, Hugh decides that life may not be so terrible after all.
Just as Hugh starts to enjoy his latest assignment, another warlock, partnered with a voracious water demon, steals Mary from under Hugh’s nose. Recovering her becomes his greatest challenge, while Mary learns that not all Warlocks are created equal. Yet, how can she trust Hugh after she learns he’s out to stop her mission? Finding love in this mire of intrigue will take more than magic. It might just require some unique human ingenuity.
If you enjoy stories where humans match wits against supernatural might, you’ll love this magical chase across a Regency-English Countryside to preserve the integrity of history.

Book 2 The Cauldron Effect series gives the reader magic amid the religious fervor of the day. Mary Bryght eighteen-year-old daughter of the late Viscount Holywell, is threatened by a magical stranger in a cape. She tried to run from him, but her body was frozen into place by the stranger. Something dark and evil had defiled her. He approached her to warn that if she can’t convince her brother to refuse his latest royal commission to do the watercolor mural depicting the arrival of Wyhcans (the race of witches and wizards) to Earth, he will be destroyed. They had to keep their magic a secret from the public at all costs. But she is too late to stop Marcus. He has gone with all his art supplies and left only a note for her. The two-page note told her that witches and warlocks do exist, and that her friend Rose is a witch. The monarchy has been aware of their existence for centuries. They were waiting only for acceptance from the witch and warlock contingents, as well as from the Church of England and the prime minister, and now he was on his way to Switzerland where the Wyhcans had first arrived and ready to start his mural. But not everyone will accept and welcome them – opposition is already mounting! She is alarmed when she is drawn into the world he has become a part of.
Warlock Hugh Renfrew Price is asked by the Warlock Council to take on his role as Earl of Flint with his father’s death. The Prince Regent then instructs Hugh to keep a human female safe on a mission that the Warlock Council insists Hugh must sabotage. He is delighted when he meets his “assignment” until Mary Bryght is stolen from him by a warlock and a water demon and Hugh must find her and rescue her. Hugh is ready to take on that challenge. Will he save her? Will he thwart the mission the Warlock Council wants sabotaged?
This was a well-written story with well-depicted characters. The story line moves along briskly, keeping the reader involved in the dangerous adventure. Will everyone make it out alive?
The second book in The Cauldron Effect series a well written story that held my interest until the end. There is magic, suspense, drama, danger, Warlock Council, good vs. evil, Intrigue, and romance. This is Mary Bryght and Hugh Renfrew Price’s story and what they have to go through to get their happy ending. I hope there is more to come in this series. Mix together Stephanie Lauren’ Cynsters with Patricia Wrede’s Mairelon the Magician and stir in a little battle-of-the-sexes and you may end up with this delightful romp of a novel. All the feel of a regency romance with the youthful adventure of young love and a little Mars-and-Venus misunderstanding to add spice – this is a great read for historical romance fans, young adult readers and paranormal romance nuts.
