So far, this rating is only for Deep Blue by Adriana Anders – one of my most favorite authors. I fell in love with her Blank Canvas Series and have read everything I could get my hands on since. Deep Blue is the prequel to her upcoming (July 2019) release of Whiteout and it’s an absolutely fabulous kick-off to her new series. Even in this shorter novella, she balances the suspense and romance perfectly. Neither one overshadows the other. Deep Blue is a complete story, but with bigger ties to one of the main characters in Whiteout. Although it’s just a taste of what’s to come, if Deep Blue has just an inkling of what I have to look forward to in Whiteout, I’m all in!
These four novellas were exciting reads and are introductions to new series. They are definitely going on my want to read lists.
I love anthologies! They often introduce me to new authors, new series by beloved authors or just enhance an aspect of an existing series. “Turning the Tide” introduces the readers to 4 authors and the beginning of new series by each. In the case of Katie Ruggle and Adriana Anders, I have already read the first book in their new series, so their stories served to answer some questions I had or enhance what I already read. In the case of Juno Rushdan and Connie Mann, I embraced that I was being introduced to new-to-me authors that could potentially build up my TBR pile.
Katie Ruggle’s Any Means Necessary introduces us to Molly Pax and her fellow bounty-hunting sisters. As I read the first book in the series, In Her Sights, I knew all about Pax Bail Recovery Services and the sisters Pax – Molly, Cara, Charlie, Norah and Felicity – trying to keep the business and family afloat. But this novella allowed me to see how it all began and gave a good introduction to the Pax sisters’ world. Eldest sister Molly took the lead here, as she does on the first book of the series, and doesn’t disappoint. And as for tall, dark and handsome John Carmondy? Oh yeah…. I like this author’s writing style, and the series has been great so far. Although short, I assure you that it leads to some really great characters and plots! Great read!
I never read Adriana Anders before, but I had just finished the first book in her new series, Whiteout, when I saw her story in this anthology was the intro to that. In Deep Blue, we get to meet retired SEAL Eric Cooper and Zoe Garcia, savior of marine life. This story was a tasty treat filled with suspense and a steamy romantic encounter. I loved that it filled some of the gaps I had from Whiteout; it really helped answer my questions regarding Eric and his crew that infiltrated Whiteout. But be forewarned – this story ends in a cliffhanger, something I really, really dislike. Now, since I read Whiteout, I made it off that cliff. But be advised that this author seems to like leaving the reader craving more answers – read my review of Whiteout and you will get it. But that said, I love Ms. Ander’s writing style, her plots and her characters to keep coming back! 5-star read!
Juno Rushdan is a new-to-me author that I had high hopes for. Reading her biography, it sounded like world of espionage was in her wheelhouse! And there was a lot to like about No Way Out. I loved the pacing, the suspense and our hero Logan Silva – there is just something about a figuratively, and literally, scarred hero that make me crave more! However, I really disliked her heroine in this story. Now, I understand that when I read a romantic suspense novel, it is a work of fiction and I can suspend disbelief to a large extent – I am very forgiving of an author’s creative licenses. But here, I found the actions and behavior of Ashley Agnello not at all “CIA” like. This is a trained operative? I do not want to give any spoilers, but I found her behavior selfish, naïve and unheroic. Unfortunately, that really spoiled the story for me – when a character seems so idiotic, I just cannot continue. And the fact it was a female character being so made me grit my teeth. However, Ms. Rushdan’s writing style and her other characters made me finish the story, and I plan on reading her series that spins from this tale. I really liked her style and I hope the other books have characters I can embrace.
The humid wilderness of central Florida is the setting for Beyond Home by Connie Mann, another new-to-me author. It was a quick read about a second-chance romance eclipsed by a dangerous situation. But I like this new-to-me author’s writing style and characters. Although brief, it was a very enjoyable read that whetted by appetite for more!
I picked up Turn the Tide a while ago in anticipation of Adriana Anders new book Whiteout.
Deep Blue is the heart pounding start of her Survival Instincts series and it was fantastic, what a great set up and the characters are all so interesting. Ex-SEALs that still crave the adrenaline rush. It’s going to be epic!
Anders is a new to me author and based on this short I’m expecting great things. I recommend you don’t miss this series!
All 4 stories set up the first book in a series for each author. Action all around and I am intrigued to read more of some of the series.
These stories are a treat whether you are a long time reader of these authors, or new to one or all of them.
As a fan of Connie Mann, I decided to read ther novella first.
Beyond Home is a good introduction to the author’s new series titled Florida Wildlife Warriors.
Sarah Sutton is back in town after a 10 year hiatus. Now a nurse, she’s determined to help a diabetic patient that is out in the wildlife in the middle of a storm. Little does she know that on her trek there, she would come across her old HS boyfriend, Marco Sánchez. No longer a boy, he is now a Florida Fish and WIdlife officer. A shock to both but now is not the time for reunions when danger is around the corner, a storm is brewing and a patient needs help.
This novella is full of action, a bad guy, wildlife, a ferocious storm and a possibility of second chances.
Excellent stories by the 3 authors! Enjoyed the challenges and overcomings by the characters. Appreciate having more authors to enjoy ( in addition to Katy Regnery! ).
