An unprecedented and terrifying bioterrorism plot threatens to kill millions in the midst of a divisive presidential election in this new thriller from the #1 New York Times bestselling Mitch Rapp series. A toxic presidential election is underway in an America already badly weakened by internal divisions. While politicians focus entirely on maintaining their own power and privilege, ISIS kidnaps … and privilege, ISIS kidnaps a brilliant French microbiologist and forces him to begin manufacturing anthrax. Slickly produced videos chronicling his progress and threatening an imminent attack are posted to the Internet, intensifying the hysteria gripping the US.
ISIS recruits a Mexican drug cartel to smuggle the bioweapon across the border, but it’s really just a diversion. The terrorist organization needs to keep Mitch Rapp and Irene Kennedy distracted long enough to weaponize a deadly virus that they stumbled upon in Yemen. If they succeed, they’ll trigger a pandemic that could rewrite the world order.
Rapp embarks on a mission to infiltrate the Mexican cartels and track down the ISIS leader who he failed to kill during their last confrontation. But with Washington’s political elite increasingly lined up against him, he knows he’ll be on his own.
“In the world of black-ops thrillers, Mitch Rapp remains the gold standard” (Booklist, starred review).

LETHAL AGENT (Mitch Rapp #18) is the fifth book by Kyle Mills in the world of Mitch Rapp started by author Vince Flynn. Mr. Mills has never disappointed me in his continued portrayal of Mitch and all the secondary characters that continue to surround him. While I am always intrigued and drawn into the chosen threat in each book, the thought of a bioterrorism attack has always terrified me more than any other.
Mullah Sayid Halabi survived Mitch Rapp’s last attempt to rid the world of the ISIS terrorist leader, while almost losing his own life in the process.
Halabi is back and has learned a few things since his near demise. Instead of and army of zealots, he now has a few well trained and trusted men around him and on-line around the world. He has kidnapped two doctors and a nurse from Doctors Without Borders who were fighting a virus similar to SARS in a Yemen village. One of the doctors is a brilliant French biochemist. Halabi releases a video to prove he is alive, has possession of the doctors and to tell the world he now has the means to produce anthrax and destroy the enemies of Allah.
As Mitch races against the clock to stop the terror plot, he finds that everything they believe is a red herring. Halabi’s true plot could end up destroying the America we know forever. And if that is not enough, at home Halabi’s threat stokes a Republican Senator’s campaign of fear and division to advance her campaign for President.
I read this book completely in one sitting! Mitch is a darker, harder character working alone once again, but it is necessary for this plot. As in all the books in this series the fight scenes are detailed and realistic. Mr. Mills had me feeling the dread of the possibility of a bioterrorism attack, anger at the political machinations in D.C. and contemplating the ethical issues that arise in the dark world that Mitch and all of his team dwell in.
This is another Mitch Rapp thriller that will leave you hyped, scared, exhausted and very satisfied in the end!
Thanks very much to Atria and Simon and Schuster for allowing me to be a Mitch Rapp Ambassador for another year and sending me an ARC of this book before publication.
I was lucky enough to get an early copy of Lethal Agent. I’ve just read and I can honestly say that this book is further evidence that Kyle Mills is doing a great job with the Mitch Rapp series. It’s got it all, ISIS terrorists, bio weapons, Drug Lords and a corrupt politician. Reads like an old school Mitch Rapp thriller but very timely.
Vince Flynn is one of my favorite authors. Can’t wait for his next release.
Can’t stop reading till it is finished. Nobody better than Mitch Rapp
I thought it started off slow with what was going on on the Middle East. Once the plot moved to Mexico, I got more involved with it.
In true Vince Flynn style, Mitch Rapp is unstoppable.
Overall, a good read. Pretty realistic. Lived in the Middle East so understood the countries and culture.
Lethal Agent, a “Vince Flynn” novel by Kyle Mills
Mitch Rapp saves the world. It’s a familiar theme. Vince Flynn died 16 years ago, but the publisher has continued to crank out Mitch Rapp stories written by Kyle Mills. This installment is at times exciting and fun to read (or in my case listen to), despite the fact that Lethal Agent is not a very original plot. The story starts off right where the last Mitch Rapp thriller finished, with the mastermind of ISIS, Sayid Hallabi, who “died” at the end of the last book, crawling out of a dusty cave and hatching a new plan to destroy Western Society. This time, it’s a mutant virus (again, not an original idea), and only Mitch and his crack fighting force can thwart the destruction of the world as we know it. Mitch battles battalions of terrorists and drug cartel soldiers single-handedly, escapes from impossible perils, and walks unarmed into the lion’s den to thwart the evil Arab from smuggling the lethal agent into the U.S.
Along the way, the author spends a lot of time (really, a LOT of time) expounding on the sad state of American politics, the weakness of Western leaders, the moral decay of the U.S. population, and in general the barren future we all face on planet earth. Mitch does some soul-searching about whether he really wants to risk his life to save this degrading country (he does). There are the usual politicians in Washington who care only about their own election or power and not really about protecting the American People or bettering society. The media is corrupt, the military and CIA are powerless to prevent the pansy/corrupt politicians from making a mess of everything, etc. Only Mitch and his crew have a true moral compass, and the means to protect everyone else.
It would be a big yawn, except that Mr. Mills splices in enough action sequences and movie-hero stunts and gun battles to keep us interested. Sure, Mitch is a cartoonish super-hero figure, but darn it, he’s fun to read about. I’d watch this movie, even though nothing about it would be surprising and the social commentary is pretty ordinary. Trying to make this installment of the Mitch Rapp series more introspective and serious by throwing in a lot of politics is a good way to stretch out the book to an appropriate length, but in the end it’s another chapter in the serial, and it frankly would be better without so much filler. But even as it stands, it’s a fun and entertaining read. Don’t think too much.
One note about the narrator, George Guidall. He has done Mitch Rapp before, and he has a staccato delivery that works with the subject matter. Sometimes the semi-mumbling speech pattern gets annoying, but that’s Mitch we’re annoyed with, not the narrator. The voices and pacing make it very easy to listen to in the car (where I do most of mine). Very high marks for him. I’m not sure the experience would have been tolerable with a lesser voice behind the microphone.
I know all his books are fantastic page turner i love them
Not quite Vince Flynn, but still Mitch Rapp. Realistic, action packed, page turner.
King Solomon wrote in Kohelet “Sometimes there are righteous men who are treated as if they had done the deeds of the wicked: and there are wicked men who are treated as if they had done the deeds of the righteous”. That pretty much sums up America today, and excellently portrayed in this book. As Americans, we have to pray that there really are men like Mitch Rapp, Scott Coleman and the rest of their crew protecting us, because all we have seen are the upper echelon of the CIA and FBI along with members of Congress, lying and attempting to overthrow our elected President, because they didn’t like the choice the American people made. Christine Barnett, the likely candidate (Mills, doesn’t identify her as a Democrat, but her actions show it) to run against President Alexander’s Vice President, only cares about power and ruling over the American people, putting the entire world in jeopardy, when she leaks information to help her win the election. Hmm, who does that sound like? Mitch Rapp is our only hope.
A real possibility considering the state of our politics and the current world situation.
Another winner by Kyle Mills! Mitch is definitely a character with more than 9 lives and each story leaves the reader with heart palpitations and wonder that Mitch lives to see another day!
Awesome book. Mitch and Scott are the best’
I like everything he writes.
Love all the Mitch Rapp books.
Amazingly realistic and a wonderful read!
Lethal Agent is a true Mitch Rapp novel in every mannerism, combining the best of cutthroat political insights of Mr. Flynn and the action spirited writing of Mr. Mills. As a Mitch Rapp fanatic, I am highly critical of seeing my hero shine in his novels and Lethal Agent undoubtedly blew past my expectations in ways I hadn’t even fathomed. With a realistically scary threat to mankind, dirty politics in Washington, and a Glock toting, neck breaking Mitch Rapp on the heels of a terrorist mastermind who had slipped Rapp’s grasps in Enemy of the State, this action thriller packs a powerful punch not just for Mitch Rapp fans, but for all the fans of the thriller genre.
While I personally loved Red War, there were complaints from readers that Mitch Rapp deserved more of a spotlight. With Lethal Agent, Mitch Rapp takes an even more central stage in the hunt for the nefarious terrorist, Halabi, who makes it his mission to unleash a deadly virus in America. With a shrewd politician hellbent on impeding Rapp’s mission to stop Halabi, Mitch Rapp has to go dark like never before, working his way through a Mexican cartel that has aligned itself with Halabi. I found it highly enjoyable and fresh to see Mitch Rapp operate in Mexico, seeing him adjust to his new operating theater in such a short time to accomplish such a critical mission. Even then, he pulls this task off flawlessly.
The action is fast and gritty, with detailed visuals of Mitch Rapp taking on his adversaries and finishing them off in the most badass of ways, whether through his custom Glock 19, or through an experimental stealthy crossbow, or even better, his bare hands. There is no shortage of moments of Mitch Rapp outsmarting his opponents in the classiest of ways.
Not only does Mitch Rapp shine through action set pieces, but he also delivers in his undercover conduct and his calm demeanor of warning off the bad guys, particularly politicians who worry more about saving their own hide. One of Mitch’s dialogues with Irene had a throwback to Transfer of Power, where Mitch clearly states his true designation as an operative who hunts terrorists, in front of the powers that be in Washington. Mills brought Mitch Rapp even closer to Vince Flynn’s Rapp, creating a beautiful tribute in yet another deeply rooted Mitch Rapp novel with Mr. Flynn’s spirit. There is no denying that Mitch Rapp holds a sense of authority and command in every sentence of the book he is in.
Mitch is joined by his team of badass operatives. Scott Coleman’s banter with Rapp truly feels like that of a true brotherhood, earning the emotional investment of the readers. Mitch’s relation with Claudia also develops further, which was an aspect I really loved. Seeing Mitch think about Claudia’s emotions as he risks his life gave the narrative an even more grounded feel of Mitch’s desire to go all in for his country, but also his desire to live a life with Claudia and her daughter Anna.
With the details apparent in weapon systems and biological warfare in the narrative, Mr. Mills deserves high praise for his due diligence and apt research that led to such an interesting read. Lethal Agent is a clear winner for me. It has all the ingredients of a phenomenal action thriller and it does not dial down on the action once it picks up, which is literally from the first moments of the book.
It is definitely a must read for all action thriller fans, looking for their next fast paced read with a strong story and grounded feel. Do not miss out on this. Mitch Rapp is Back!
Kyle Mills has done an outstanding job extending the Mitch Rapp series after the death of Vince Flynn but he has taken that to an entirely new level with Lethal Agent. This book has everything, a deeply divided country in the middle of a toxic Presidential race, Mexican Cartels, ISIS planning a biological attack on the United States. And, Mitch Rapp, caught up in it all and try to save the country.
I can’t recommend this book enough, not only is it Kyle Mills best book in the series but, it may be one of the best books in the series overall.
Lethal Agent by Kyle Mills, is absolutely fantastic. I am proud to say that I was chosen as a Mitch Rapp Ambassador, and telling everyone about this next chapter in the Mitch Rapp series is an honor. I am a huge fan of this series and I wait, counting the days for each book and then, once I am done, I wait with baited breath for the next. Well this book, Lethal Agent, seems so very current in our political world and therefore is kind of scary.
There is a toxic presidential election with America weakened by internal divisions. Politicians focusing entirely on maintaining their own power and privilege and then ISIS kidnaping a French microbiologist, forcing him to begin manufacturing anthrax with plans to weaponize the deadly virus. If that isn’t enough, Mitch Rapp heads to Mexico to infiltrate the Mexican cartels and track down the ISIS leader who he failed to kill during their last confrontation. Of course Washingtons politicians are only out for their own good and try to get in Mitch, his men and Irene Kennedy’s way.
As I read the book it was as if some of this was, or could be happening now. Kyle has such a great grasp of the diversity of the American politicians and politics, that I felt as if this could be coming our way of we don’t start paying attention and Washington doesn’t remember that we are a country united.
Mitch seems more aggressive and tightly wound in this book and it makes you wonder will he ever be able to have a life that doesn’t require him to give all to our country. He has such loyalty to his friends, family and to America. I hope we have someone in our service that is like Mitch. I doubt it, but one can only hope.
Thank you Kyle Mills for never letting Mitch Rapp fade away, for keeping him strong, and continuing a favorite series without having us feel as if another author took over. You have stayed true to the characters and we truly appreciate it.
This series needs to be read in order to understand all of the nuances. This is the 18th book in the series. Lethal Agent comes out September 24th 2019 at your favorite book stores.
