I’m used to getting my hands dirty. During the day it’s mud and grime on the construction site. At night…it’s the blood I spill.A drug lord’s enforcer does what needs to be done. It’s my obedience, my loyalty to the boss that keeps my family alive. I know I’m teetering on the edge. I’m losing my humanity, I can feel it. It’s changing me, and it’s only a matter of time before the darkness takes … the darkness takes over.
Then I meet her. Liv. The only person who sees past my busted knuckles and brutal exterior. She sees…me.
But being with me will get her killed. The only way I can keep her safe is by staying away. Until her own actions catapult her into the center of my world—a world which will swallow her whole.
Now I’m forced to be the ruthless bastard I’ve been for so long. Only this time it’s not to destroy…but to defend.

Brick by Jen Davis is a crazy love story. It makes you believe that love will conquer all, even really scary drug bosses.
Olivia is the girl-next-door school teacher that believes the world is full of rainbows and sunshine now that her battle with cancer is won.
Brick is the guy that doesn’t believe in the boogie monster, he IS the boogie monster. He’s the guy that you don’t want to be alone with in a dark alley if you have messed with his boss. When he sees Olivia across the work site, he thinks that the world is okay and he has just found the perfect woman. Yet he doesn’t want to drag her beauty and innocence into his dark and scary world of pain and heartache.
The book was a bit slow in the beginning, but soon the action picked up and all the pieces started falling in to place. There were points in the book that I literally spoke out loud.
Olivia and Brick try and fight the chemistry between them but it’s impossible. She is so intrigued by him that she wants more buts he is protecting the only perfect thing in his life from being hurt by his boss.
Brick’s boss, Sucre, is a drug lord that likes to torment and torture people for fun. He coerced Brick to work for him when Brick’s grandmother got sick and needed around the clock care. Since then, Brick has become the top enforcer, but Sucre still holds the fact that he’s the reason that Brick’s grandmother is getting the help she needs. Brick knows for a fact that if Sucre gets his hands on Olivia that it won’t be good.
When Olivia’s star student goes missing she unknowingly puts herself in the middle of Brick’s scary world to help the teen. Brick’s world is turning on its axis, the perfect girl is now neck deep in the scary world he wants to get out of so bad. Will they get out of the sticky situation alive?
4.5 super sexy stars!!
This is book one in the “Cooper Construction” series. This book can be read as a stand alone but I am super excited for the books to come. So many interesting characters!!
This is a story of the good girl and the bad boy. He wants to be clean and she just wants to live her best life….
I enjoyed this couple very much. This isn’t your sweet romance. There is some grit and darkness that looms over the entire book but it gives it the edge us readers need. Though this love story is a bit predictable it makes you go through hoops to get there.
I think Brick is what every girl wants. A bad ass with a heart. Swwooon!! His story is depressing, heartbreaking, hopeful, scary and beautiful. This man has me hooked!
Even Olivia is a fighter. Her story is beautiful, sad, hopeful and encouraging. This is a perfect couple. Her light to his dark.
Now I am super pumped on knowing we will here more. Maybe from Kane, Will, Xander, Robert, Amanda, or even Matt?!?! Ahh I can’t wait.
This was a great read.
**I received this book as an ARC and in return gave my honest review**
I absolutely loved this story! It was raw, beautiful, and take charge characters! Liv knew exactly what she wanted, and that was Brick! Brick was sure he didn’t deserve what Liv was offering, but he couldn’t keep saying no. Fast paced storyline, strong characters, phenomenal writing! Nothing to not love!
Enforcer For Crime Boss
Brick has the job title as enforcer for a local crime boss and he does that job well. He just needs to make sure that he has no attachment that they can use to keep him in line any more than they already are. That worked until Liv came along. Brick works as a construction worker during the day to put more of an even keel to his life…if that is even possible.
This is a dark romance full of twists and turns which will keep you turning pages right until the very end.
**3.5 Stars**
Brick may be good at his job, but that doesn’t mean he likes it. As an enforcer for a loan shark, he’s the one sent to recover payment or dish out the consequences when they don’t have it. However, in order to keep his family safe, he continues doing it, knowing they’d be in danger otherwise. His other job now, working construction, he likes and it keeps him sane. It also helps him feel as normal as he can be.
Liv knows what it’s like to stare death in the face…and win. She’s fought hard to survive and refuses to squander her second chance. While visiting her brother at work, she sees Brick and is instantly attracted, and the feeling is mutual.
Their connection is intense and undeniable. Liv brings purity to Brick’s tainted world, overriding the darkness he’s surrounded by with her light, and though he knows she can do better than him, and he brother agrees, he can’t seem to let her go. Not that she wants him to.
But someone does. They don’t want Brick and Liv together, and are willing to do anything to ensure they aren’t.
Can Brick keep her safe? Can Liv convince her understandably overprotective siblings who almost lost her once that Brick is the only man for her? Will Brick prove to them and himself that he’s worthy of Liv? Is a HEA possible?
One-click now and follow along as two people, seemingly opposites in every way, meet and find the only person that can make them whole. I really liked the parallel of Brick being the one that has to deliver pain, or worse, because he’s forced to while Liv had to fight to live. Liv is strong, she had to be to kick cancer’s butt, and she refuses to lose Brick. She knows they’re meant to be and wants him to see himself as she sees him.- By Elizabeth
