★ ★ ★ ★ ★”“Taylor’s best friend’s brother, Jake, has always been hot, but it takes more than his sexy smile to make her risk their friendship and her heart… From beginning to end, this is a cute, funny, and engaging tale.” – Bronwen Evans, USA Today Best Selling Author
She’s in hot pursuit of The One, he’s in hot pursuit of her. Can she see what’s been in front of her all this time? When city … see what’s been in front of her all this time?
When city girl Taylor Jennings reluctantly visits a psychic one sunny San Francisco morning, she gets a whole lot more than she bargains for–like a prediction she will “lock eyes” with The One within the next two weeks. So, when she looks up into a pair of green eyes belonging to her best friend’s big brother, Taylor’s running scared. She can’t fall for ladies’ man, Jake, not if she wants to keep what she holds most dear.
Jake Harrison is the successful head chef of the hottest new restaurant in San Francisco. He’s got everything he could want: a great job, good friends, and women falling over themselves to be with him. Problem is, he’s always had a “thing” for his kid sister’s best friend–ever since that one incredible kiss they shared as teenagers.
When the two are thrown together on a joint bachelor-bachelorette weekend in Cabo San Lucas, Taylor goes in search of The One, and Jake tries his best to deny what he’s felt for Taylor for far too long.
The Right Guy is a sweet and sexy friends to lovers contemporary romance for fans of Lauren Layne.
This book is a little sexier than Kate O’Keeffe’s other titles, but with my same light-hearted, feel-good tone, and that all important happily ever after.

This a fun, entertaining RomCom that’s easy to read and told from dual POVs to make it that much more exciting. This is the first time I read an O’Keeffe book told from dual POVs and it’s was wonderful and fun. Getting Jake’s perspective made him so much more swoon-worthy. I also liked the quirkiness of the physic. Loved the Cabo bachelor / bachelorette trip especially with what it does to Taylor & Jake but don’t want to add more & give spoilers. However, personally wasn’t a big fan of Taylor’s indecisiveness or that she somewhat seems to ‘flaunt’ different guys in front of Jake, well it’s just not nice. I like best friend’s brother troupe and this one didn’t not disappoint but Jake’s character definitely did it for me, Taylor not so much. Recommend one-clicking the best friend’s brother RomCom The Right Guy, 100% worth reading!
I did receive an advanced copy from the author via BookSprout and am voluntarily leaving my own opinion with this voluntary review.
Loved the story and this is the first time I have read anything by this author and I have to say, she is really good. Her way of writing really flowed and got the reader involved in the story.

Light and Fun
Super enjoyable story of Taylor and Jake. I love the “big brother” trope. I guess I really just love any story where the characters have history, and really know one another well. When the relationships are based on feeling born of time ad familiarity, rather than just physical attraction…
Ok, I got a bit sidetracked. The story was fun and very funny at parts. It was really enjoyable to see Taylor and Jake work things out.

The Right Guy is another fun book from Kate O’Keeffe. Her characters are always so vividly portrayed. I loved Taylor’s searching for blood orange shirts! This is the best friend’s brother trope, but Taylor and Jake have been denying their feelings since she was 16! The psychic was a nice touch. If you are looking for a light, fun escape read, this book should be a delight!
I really enjoyed this book. I love Kate O’Keeffe, and while different from her other books, it was a nice departure that I thought she did very well. Told from alternating points of view, it’s the story of Jake and Taylor. Taylor is best friends with Jake’s sister and has practically been a part of the family forever. Of course, there are going to be doubts as Jake and Taylor face their actual feelings for each other. Add in an ill-timed psychic prediction that causes more doubts, and a few odd encounters and it makes for a fun, light read. I didn’t think that Jake’s “playboy” past was fleshed out enough to truly believe it, which in turn made Taylor’s wavering back and forth seem a little bit much. But it wasn’t enough to stop me from enjoying the story. The electricity between the two was expressive and real. A four-star read from me because it let me escape and enjoy their story. I received a digital ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a fun, pretty much drama-free, and quick read. 🙂 It was a bit sexier than some of her other books I’ve read, but it still had the same feel-good, chick-lit-y vibes I like about Kate O’Keeffe’s stories.
Taylor and Jake make a cute couple, and the supporting cast of friends and family are another reminder of why I like Kate’s books so much. 🙂
I wonder if this is going to be another series with the fortune teller as a common link?
Super fun. Don’t miss out on this one!
She is searching for the one who is meant for her and only her. He wants her to see what is in front of her. He knows she is the one for her but can be do that? See how they will get on

When Taylor’s best friend, Ash, is getting married she asks her to be a bridesmaid for her and she readily agrees. Now Taylor has had a crush on Jake, Ash’s older brother, since their teen years and it hasn’t gone away. But he’s supposedly a bit of a player! When Taylor goes to a fortune teller who tells her that she will meet The One man for her within the next two weeks, little does she realise that Jake is waiting for her. Beautifully written with plenty of humour by Kate O’Keeffe who is a new author to me. I loved the way she introduced her characters and wove them into the storyline. This is a fun romantic story that made me smile and want to read more of her must have reads. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED
I enjoyed reading this book. Taylor is looking for “the one” and her best friends brother, Jake, has always been a player. Little does Taylor know that Jake has been in love with her for years but she is too afraid of getting hurt again. At times, Taylor’s reluctance to trust in Jake made me think they were never going to get their HEA. This is a new to me author but I look forward to reading more.

Another winner by Kate O’Keefe!!!
This was a cute read. Taylor did drive me bananas here and there but I’m glad she wished up in the end. Jake was perfect for her.
I love Kate O’Keefe’s writing and this book doesn’t disappoint. The characters are well developed and could be people I know. The story is written from two points of view—his and hers. Besides being fun and an enjoyable read, it is interesting to see the differing views of some of the same events. I love the idea of seeing how Jake views things since most books are from the woman’s point of view. Although the plot is a bit predictable, I still found myself cheering for the happy ending. The Right Guy is a quick read that left me wanting missing these characters when it was over. Highly recommend this fun read.
I’ve always been a big O’Keeffe fan, and I’m a total sucker for the best friend’s brother trope, so The Right Guy was right up my alley. Taylor’s a skeptic who gets talked into going to see a psychic. She doesn’t expect anything, but when she’s told that she’s going to meet a guy with ocean-green eyes wearing a blood-orange shirt outside the tent, that’s pretty specific. It’s fun to follow Taylor as she walks up to every man in an orange shirt in San Francisco during baseball season.
Jake is a totally dreamy hero, and I dare you not to swoon when….wait, no spoilers. 🙂 But it’s a great read!
Different
This book was different from O’Keeffe’s other books in that it provided a dual POV. Taylor and Jake. I always like that, because you get both sides of the story. And it was less innocent than her other books. Bedroom doors open. It had a different tone. A different style.
It was well written. Easy-to-read. Light-hearted. Pleasant for a long time. I really liked Taylor at first. She’s rational, cautious, holding back, and I could relate because I was that way in my twenties as well. Jake couldn’t possibly be the right guy for her, right? Too much of a player. But his playing days are behind him, he’s ready for more, only she doesn’t know that.
But. Yes, there are some buts. This wasn’t as addictive as O’Keeffe’s other books. Not her best in my opinion. All of her books I’ve read so far (before this one) have ended up at the top of my favorites list. Not this one though. I think the biggest negative for me was the fact that the cycle of doubt – yes – no – doubt again – yes – no – doubt yet again … (and so on, you get the picture) was repeated too often. Just when you thought they were finallt THERE, doubt settled back in. There wasn’t much else to the story than that. Oh, Jake had some things going on in his restaurant and Taylor some things at work, but that only played a very minor role. For the rest it was only “I like him, but I’m doubting, shall I say yes or run?” For a while it was fine, but after a while it starting irritating me. It got old. This endless cycle that wasn’t going anywhere. And when the HEA came, I almost couldn’t enjoy it because I was waiting for the umpteenth but/doubt to start creeping back in. The story wasn’t really enough to fill a book, but it was stretched out to make it fit.
All in all, I can’t give more than an okay. It was an okay book.
*** Spoiler alert *** !!!
The moment when Taylor starts flirting with multiple other guys RIGHT AFTER Jake has confessed his feelings for her, was the moment I knew this wasn’t the book for me. And she did it RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM! I was so disappointed in her! It’s a big deal for a guy to confess his feelings and for her to trample all over them?!
