The Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy, Book 5 When a fledgling vampire arrives at Woolworth House searching for his maker, Grier is forced to relive her time in Atramentous. Most of those years are as dark and empty in her memory as she was in her cell. She can’t remember her progeny, or the night she resuscitated him, but she can protect him from the Society. As long as she’s willing to barter with … barter with her grandfather to do it.
But Lacroix has plans of his own. He envisions the city–her city–under his rule, and Grier under his thumb. Now all he needs is the right leverage to force her cooperation, and he has just the person in mind. Grier is ready to trade her freedom until a grim truth is revealed that splits her heart in two. Yet another person she loves has betrayed her, and Grier is left agonizing over how much of their relationship is real and how much was a lie.

How to Live an Undead Lie starts about a week after the end of the last book. Their are many secrets revealed, Odette is missing, and Corbin her prodigy has come knocking on her door. What will Grier do?
Grier keeps her head even when others betray her and have no problem doing it. I think it’s time she starts fighting back, because others in her life have no problem screwing her over. I was happy to see Grier continue to learn about her world, make her own choices, and develop her relationships.
Linus and Grier are dating and their relationship is progress nicely. I really like Linus. He gives Grier the time she needs to move the relationship along and doesn’t pressure her. The every looming sadness that Linus will leave her; because she isn’t good enough is present. Will they be together or not?
I like the side characters; except I’m done, just done, with the Pritchards. They need to go.
How to Live an Undead Lie is another delightful addition to the series. I was pulled in from begging to end and couldn’t believe the betrayal that happened. I can’t wait to see what’s next; because this one ends on a cliffhanger.

Each book gets better
This series is just so much fun and excitement. Each book brings more to the story and more to the forefront. I haven’t binge read series since MCD’s Adept Universe books. I cannot wait for more from Edwards.
This is the 5th installment in The Beginner’s Guide to Necromancy and you need to read these stories in order, or you will be lost. Things are finally settling down between Grier and Linus, Wooly’s back to normal, and Lethe is eating enough for an army. But that’s about all that’s going good in Grier’s life. Between her mother’s family, and her grandfather on her father’s side, Grier can’t catch a breath. She’s also trying to settle in as Dame Woolworth and still having to deal with everything that Amalie and Boaz had done to her. Add to that the stranger on her porch. Her progeny, the person she turned while she was in Atramentous, has escaped and is at her door asking for help. Suspecting this is a set up by the Grand Dame, Grier takes the bait and sets Corbin up with her Grandfather LaCroix. They know LaCroix’s up to something and installing Corbin within his household will give them a spy.
LaCroix takes Corbin in, after all, Corbin is his grandson. He swears to Grier that he will teach Corbin how to be a proper vampire but doesn’t know that Corbin is there as a spy. Using Cletus as a go between, Corbin and Grier are able to stay in contact with no one there knowing. When Corbin lets Grier in on LaCroix’s plan, everyone has to jump into action to not only save the Lyceum, but all of Savannah from the undead army set to strike.
We’re all let in on the shocking secret of who Cletus really is. I kid you not, I never suspected and my mouth literally fell open when I read and then re-read Cletus’ true identity.
I am thoroughly enjoying this series. I’ve gotten more invested with each one and am now dreading that the ending may be in sight. I do not want to leave Grier, Linus, Wooly, Lethe, and Hood behind. I want to stay in the world of Necromancers, Vampires, Ghosts, Gwyllgi, Fae, and more as long as possible. I definitely recommend this series if you’re a lover of all things paranormal.

Wow, the lies and deceit that comes out in this addition to the series is intense, and who would have thought in the grand scheme of everything that the Grand Dame would come out of this on top? And really, it’s great Grier has actually chosen her family, because the family she was born into really are horrible. Except Woolly. And Linus. And Keets. There is some coming to terms with her relationship with Boaz and Amelie, and Boaz wins back a couple brownie points for me in this book, but he’s not completely out of the dog house.
The relationship of Grier and Linus moves up a notch and the author is able to weave in healthy amounts of romance into the danger, action and angst of the book, without tearing apart her main characters – something I’ve seen too many times. She makes them stronger, together. Huh, go figure. More twists and turns and the suspense and action keep this a page turner, and I’m losing sleep this week.
Just finished listening to the audiobook and y’all. Be ready!! I’m so happy I waited till the last book to get caught up because this one leaves you hanging. It is a great book, and I was shocked several times while listening to this book. Very enjoyable. Onto the next book.
I enjoy the narrator as well she brings the story to another level.
Arghh, I blame life for getting in the way of finishing this in one day. But I got to savor it and that is great as well. What a ride this book was and I can’t wait for the next!
So much happens in this book it is hard to review. But LIER is on and it is yummy! I love Grier and Linus together. Grier discovers the truth(s) about the night Maud died, but those are not the only secrets revealed in this book. While Grier was mostly alone in book 1, now she is surrounded with people she loves and who love her. I couldn’t be more happy for her, even when she gets betrayed again. I nearly cried at the end, but be assured you can close the book with a (happy) sigh.
There is another book coming because we are actually left in a dire situation, but somehow the author gave the book an ending you can cherish until we have the next book!
Love how Greir and Linus’s relationship keeps moving forward with mutual respect and discovery of each other as people also. Neither are perfect and don’t pretend to be. The politics of the Society and Vampires, however – no thanks! Cut-throat world as all these UFs are 😉 Looking forward to the next in the series.
Oh how I love this series, and now I have to wait for who knows how long to find out what happens next for Grier Woolworth and friends. In this book Grier has to deal with her progeny, the fledgling vampire she made while in Atramentous but doesn’t remember doing it, as well as her grandfather, the vampire Lacroix, who has plans to take over the city of Savannah, as well as control over Grier. Oh, and her relationship with Linus Lawson is going very well, which makes me happy, and Grier is enjoying it too, although she keeps expecting the other shoe to drop – she has some issues. Some major revelations are made during the story, of which some make a lot of sense, some are very cool, and one is heartbreaking. There is a nice bit about the gwyllgi and challenges to Lethe’s position in the pack, where a whole gaggle of them end up camping out on the lawn. I love Grier’s friendship with Lethe, she needs someone to make her laugh and Lethe’s good at that. I just really love these characters and can’t wait to find out what happens, especially since this story left quite a few loose ends to be dealt with in the future.
